DESCRIPTION:
Being a Wistie, Alys most often appears as a small mote of flickering light about the size of a golf ball. Her particular pigment is a very pale red, and she tends to leave a small trail of sparks behind her when worked up or in a hurry. She tends to fly in jerky, halting motions and speaks her native language sounding to most species like a series of soft, bell-like chimes. She has four rapidly fluttering insectoid wings on her back that often beat quickly enough to buzz when she moves.
Underneath her glow, Alys is a slender woman with an athletic build. She tends to wear clothes she's made herself out of a variety of fireproof materials such as tarps and insulation. They are fairly rough as a result, which isn't much a problem for her given how rarely she interacts with other people directly. She often carries a variety of handmade gadgets in a bag at her waist, the largest of which is a voice modulator so that she can be heard more clearly when speaking Basic.

(Comms Officer) Alys has spent most of her life hitching rides on a variety of ships and stations, but her first love after being taken from her home jungle was the radio. There are few beings in the Galaxy with a deeper, more passionate love for the ins and outs of long-distance communication than Alys - who meticulously maintains a variety of equipment from old-fashioned fractal radio arrays to state-of-the-art shadowcast transmitters. A career agitator, Alys has a comprehensive working knowledge of improvised explosives, slicing techniques, and encryption protocols to keep herself (and causes she supports) out of the hands of the authorities.
(Radio Voice) Even if she needs to use specialized equipment to be understood most of the time, there's no denying that Alys has a fantastic radio presence. She's personable, she's enjoyable, she has a pleasing cadence and a way with words that draws in listeners probing her show for encoded meaning as well as those just looking for something to listen to in the background while they go about their lives.
(Resistant) While she's no more physically durable than any other shrew-sized creature, Alys' biology burns very hot - hotter than most toxins and chemicals are prepared to harm. Combined with a Wistie's slightly non-standard biology, it takes a lot of poison to drop her.

(Self-Taught) Since being brought into space several years ago, Alys has had to teach herself how to exist in space from the ground up. While she has a working knowledge of most subjects that interest her, her lack of education really does come back to bite her quite often. This is exacerbated by her tendency to refuse assistance and assume she's on her own, even when among friends - going it on her own has had a profound affect on her.
(Rhydonium Enthusiast) Resistant as she is to the stuff, Alys just can't get enough of that funky gas. Though Rhydonium is her preferred flavor, nearly any stimulant will do in a pinch. If no easy options present themselves, Alys tends to get desperate - which leads to creative solutions or depression.
(Fully Cooked) Even when she means well, Alys has a way of coming off as a little intense. She's been in the game too long and too intently to decelerate most of the time, which means she can put people off with cryptic ramblings or wild accusations about their political character without really meaning to. Alys has a tendency to swerve even casual conversation into the deep end of political rhetoric and matters of philosophy.

Removed from her clan at a young age by a poacher, Alys spent most of her childhood in the menagerie of a traveling crime lord before that crime lord was raided by a crew of pirates. Alys slipped into the assailant's ship in the chaos and lived for years in the walls of the vessel - teaching herself the bare basics of navigating a ship's wiring and equipment by experimentation and observation. About the time she graduated up to interacting with the computers and more complicated systems, the pirate crew dissolved under mutiny and Alys made her way onto a small space station rather than risk being caught on an imploding ship. It was on this station that she taught herself how to read, how to navigate the holonet, and began a career as an amateur slicer. Though it didn't make much money then, slicing is still how Alys makes the bulk of her funds.
Before very long, Alys joined up with the newly-formed vagrant fleet under various names and aliases - often disguising herself as an 'offsite slicer' while tagging along on her employer's ships. Her work veered away from the mercenary into this point and into the political, as Alys threw her invisible support behind dozens of grassroots Anarchist movements. She became more polarized over time, a trait exacerbated by her growing stimulant addiction. Alys eventually had a sufficient enough amount of experience and clout to assist more directly with her chosen political aims - first as a courier, later as a communications specialist, and now as a political agitator running a pirate radio station through which she relays encrypted messages and encoded instructions across the Galaxy.
