Guess Who
Context: I submitted an individual NPC to the Codex, and that NPC happens to be an Artificial Intelligence. In my writing I treated it like I would any other character being submitted as an NPC, listing 'Artificial Intelligence' as the species and included my A.I. objective post in the thread as well.
The response I received:
My take: I understand if an AI or Droid is a model/make, which could be posted numerous times as an NPC, but I do not see the reason for a unique character. If something is unique then all that's stated is all there is to it.
If the details of the submission fit the setting's rationale, and balance requirements of the board, then what's the greater issue?
I'm led to believe the recent path of Codex & Factory is to move away from forcing writers to check items off of a list. Instead improving the creative enjoyment and reward that Codex & Factory offers the board. Removing redundancies like this is a step in that direction.
If you are interested in the submission in question, or the conversation between the judge and I, here is a link to the thread.
The response I received:
I completely understand that the Judge was in the right for his decision, as he was only enforcing Codex policy. However, I would like staff to consider an alteration to this policy.Codex policy states that all Artificial Intelligence needs to go through Factory first, as it is primarily a tech submission. Once you get approval from there you can then personalise your AI here.
Unless you are using a Factory approved or Canon AI, this submission cannot be processed. Moving this to Pre-Codex meanwhile

Indeed, however in some cases, such as with space-stations, we ask for it to be rooted in either canon through a wiki link or a custom factory submission. Turns out when it comes to AI this wasn't clearly stated in our templates, so this is being remedied asap.
