Description:

Phylis’ pursuit of Alkahest has taken her a long way from musings about crystals and alchemy, but with these robes she takes another step into new enlightenment.
So far her primary usage of Alkahest has been on metal and crystals, both things which are dead but which allow themselves to be imbued with the Force in certain states. With metal, this is when it is molten, and with crystals when they are attuned. However it occurred to Phylis that cloth need not be excluded from this list of imbued materials. After all, ones with organic fibres had once been alive, which gave a good base to work from. However, cloth itself is not naturally strong, and too much stiffening would make it impractical as a garment.

And so, working with Theo Heavenshield, Phylis found a solution, one similar to how she had created Dawnbringer. Thus, she dipped the cloth into microbe rich water, using the Force and the lives of the little swimming things to fold it into the fibres of the cloth and make it stronger.
A set of robes created in this way has similar yet different strengths and weaknesses to if it was made of Alkahest metal. It is however noticeably its own thing and a special case.

The robes created by this process includes the traditional brown cloak with hood along with the under robes, pants and tunic. This is accompanied by a regular padded vest under the robes. The imbuement also makes the robes easier to clean, and also makes them have a faintly floral smell. Phylis isn’t quite sure why, but it is certainly welcome.

These robes provide the simple cloth with extremely enhanced durability, especially to slashing and piercing weapons. Each fibre of the cloth becomes incredibly tough, equivalent to strands of durasteel wire. This allows it to resist stabbing and cutting with ease. The strands can be cut, but it takes constant pressure to do so and usually more than regular blades.

Against lightsabres the Alkahest imbuement allows the simple cloth to resist lightsabres quite effectively. A lightsabre will penetrate if pressed against it for several seconds, but it essentially it provides protection slightly greater than armorweave.

The Alkahest robes have the interesting side effect of being warming, and are able to keep the wearer’s body temperature regulated somewhat in cold weather. It also provides some resistance to cyrokinesis and other elemental cold attacks. Naturally, this is only useful to a point, and walking in Hoth’s night time or falling into icy water will be too much for the wearer.

Against the Dark Side, the robes do provide protection because of their Light Side attunement. However, it is for the wearer to protect themselves mainly; the robes are merely naturally resistant to the Dark Side.
The robes themselves have a noticeable Light aura, and a Dark adept wearing or touching them would find it most discomforting. This aura can be purged by the efforts of a powerful Dark Side adept.

The robes themselves are somewhat resistant to fire in that they are not flammable. However, the heat, smoke etc. of fire can still damage the wearer. If the robes are placed on a fire they will eventually burn and turn to ash, the hotter the temperature, the sooner the breaking down will be complete.

There one great strength to these robes, balanced by two more severe weakness.

The robes feel almost the same as a regular set, and even with a padded tunic the weight difference is not noticeable. This allows the wearer to move and act freely without the encumbrance of armour.

The key downside to this of course is that the robes are not rigid. They protect against slashing attacks certainly, but they have little behind them to protect against impact. A regular slug for instance would be stopped by the robes, but the kinetic energy imparted can still cause severe bruising and trauma if it hits the body. The same, to a larger extent, is true of any form of physical impact, be it from a hammer, fist or telekinetic impel. The robes themselves, even with a padded tunic, provide no effective protection against such impacts.

A second weakness is that these robes are not like a suit of armour; it leaves the feet, hands and face unprotected.

In summary, these robes are the perfect thing for a traditional Jedi like Phylis to wear. Since she dislikes armour and the encumbrance it gives, this provides flexibility combined with good protection against the weapons she expects to face. It also proves comfortable on cold nights and is hard to burn…something Phylis is most grateful of considering her sometimes clumsy ways!
