STRENGTHS
  • Escort Carrier - Each of these vessels had been designed around the form and function of providing additional support, with each craft being capable of deploying two full wings of Starfighters - each comprised of three squadrons - along with the capability of carrying an additional wing of Support Craft such as shuttles or troop transports.
  • ECM Suites - The Aether CC-82 was equipped with a series of enhanced sensor packages to baffle enemy targeting computers and provide further assistance in fleet-based Counter-Electronic Warfare.
  • Automation - Many of the secondary and tertiary systems of these craft are handled by automated systems linked to a centralized computer core. This ensures that these craft can be crewed by a smaller complement while also ensuring that critical systems such as navigation and life support remain in the hands of the organic crew.
WEAKNESSES
  • Lightly Armed - The Aether CC-82 was designed to focus on providing the capabilities of a Light Carrier; thus, it is lacking in heavier armaments, due to many of these systems being removed to provide additional hangar capacity.
  • Sluggish - Heavier armor plating, increased defensive capabilities, and the installation of smaller, less powerful engines to secure additional hangar capacity have resulted in a craft that is slower and less maneuverable than similarly sized Cruisers.
  • Automation - While this design ensures that a smaller crew complement can control these craft, it does not come without its own drawbacks. Due to these systems being automated, these craft are known to be more susceptible to Ion-based weaponry or EMP-based strikes, both of which have the potential of reducing the overall effectiveness and capabilities of the vessel, as the limited organic crew would have difficulty maintaining the strain of handling the additional systems.
DESCRIPTION
The ability to deploy Starfighter and Bomber squadrons en masse can just as quickly turn the tide of a pitched engagement as can sending a Star Destroyer tearing into the heart of an enemy formation. Aether Systems has understood this concept throughout the years, and has recently introduced the Aether CC-82 to the Galaxy as the most recent addition to a long line of Carrier designs that have ranged from fast striking Light Carriers to the massive Fleet Carriers of legend. Each of these craft were designed around the form and function of providing additional support to fleets and are capable of supporting and deploying two full wings of Starfighters or Bombers - each comprised of three squadrons - while also being capable of supporting and deploying an additional wing of Support Craft such as Shuttles or Troop Transports to ferry their limited number of passengers and crew between vessels or to conflict zones planetside. However, the main drawback of this design is that, while ensuring there was ample hangar capacity for these squadrons, many of the heavier armaments and arsenal have been removed, causing each of these vessels to carry a limited armament compared to similarly sized Cruisers.

With the design of the Aether CC-82 focusing more on hangar capacity, this has also come at a cost in other areas and aspects of these craft. Most notably, the addition of heavier armor plating, increased defensive capabilities, and the installation of smaller, less powerful engines have also resulted in a decrease in overall acceleration and speed at Sublight. Leaning into another feature that is often commonly seen in many designs produced by Aether Systems is the automation of the secondary and tertiary systems that have been linked to a centralized computer core. While this ensures that these vessels can be crewed by a smaller complement, it does leave them more vulnerable to Ion-based weaponry and EMP-based strikes, which have the potential of overwhelming the limited crew as they must take care of additional systems.

Though considerably slower than similarly sized Cruisers, the true strength of the Aether CC-82 is in its capacity to support and deploy multiple Starfighter and Bomber squadrons in support of fleet elements. The addition of sophisticated, enhanced sensor packages aids in baffling enemy targeting computers and provides further assistance to Fleet-based Counter-Electronic Warfare, making these craft a vital addition to many formations. Despite its light armament, low speed, and limited maneuverability, it vastly overcomes these limitations, especially when deployed strategically within a balanced formation of Capital Ships.
