Summary: The intent of this submission is to clarify the history and current condition of Aeten II and the Aeten Nebula, a subject of extremely mixed messages from a variety of sources.
Faction: The Mandalorians
Type: History
Description: When the Galactic Empire destroyed Aeten II over eight hundred years ago, pieces of the planet were scattered throughout the Aeten Nebula as newly formed asteroids of various sizes. In the centuries between the planet's destruction and its rebuilding (alongside Alderaan and other destroyed worlds), the cracked planet and the far-flung asteroids were heavily prospected and mined for stygium, depleting the supply. After the planet was reshaped, various asteroids and microdebris persisted in the nebula, remnants of the original world which did not appreciably decrease the new planet's size or gravity. The planet and the far-flung asteroids continued to be the subjects of prospecting and mining operations. Independent prospectors made a dubious living attempting to track small pieces of rock through the nebula; more often than not, they found that someone had mined it out before they could.
In the modern era, the Sith Empire and the Mandalorians clashed several times over Aeten. The Empire was able to take control of the planet only briefly; in that short time, they deployed a variety of mining assets and secured a moderate amount of stygium, further depleting the planet's reserves. Mandalorian mining operations, under the aegis of the combined clans and of individual Mandalorian-influenced corporations such as Eshan Drive Yards, MandalMotors and Mandal Hypernautics, were far more comprehensive. The planet was heavily mined, and new sensor techniques were developed specifically to predict, track, and detect asteroids in the nebula. Various Shokita-class stations were deployed throughout the nebula as local prospecting hubs. In a relatively short amount of time, the concerted Mandalorian effort procured enough stygium to cloak a capital ship and a handful of smaller projects. Mandalorian mining efforts continued unabated.
At the current time, all reasonably available stygium mines on the planet have been exhausted and their contents removed from Aeten II by various Mandalorian clans and corporations. All potential stygium mines have been investigated. The planet is ecologically wrecked. Stygium can only be procured by negotiating with the Mandalorians, stealing from the Mandalorians, or obtaining permission from the Mandalorians for a long-term drilling operation in hopes of finding a very deep source. The system is highly secured, as it has been raided many times.
At the current time, it is estimated that 99.9% of the stygium in the far-flung asteroids has been removed. Through extensive trial and error, it might still be possible for an independent prospector to find a small quantity of stygium, perhaps enough for a personal ship. The nebula is Mandalorian-patrolled. The nebula is also home to the intermingled debris of two fleets, belonging to [member="Velok"] and @B'Arin Graad.
Links: All threads involved (primarily the Dominion of Aeten II, the Invasion of Aeten II, and Beskar And Fishing Poles) were lost on the Crash. This lore submission has been compiled from the memories and opinions of many people who were directly involved in these events on both sides. I was involved in all three primary threads and have consulted, or been made aware of, many other perspectives. Effort has been made to reconcile all sources, including the opinions of [member="Ayden Cater"], [member="Mia Monroe"], [member="Azrael"], [member="Darth Janus"] and [member="Mordecai Tal'kyr"].
