Intent: To create a simple yet reliable method for air dropping infantry into objectives.
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: The Primeval Fleet
Model: AX-100 Drop Pack
Affiliation: The Primeval
Modularity: None.
Production: Mass-production.
Material: Titanium parts, Aluminum casing, standard bits and pieces.
Description: Much like space battles are three-dimensional so are planetary invasions! The ADX-100 "Aerial Drop Pack" allows light infantry units to individually deploy into a multitude of situations. Whether it's taking over a mountaintop fortress, harassing behind enemy lines, or "getting the drop on them" the ADX-100 delivers a much needed innovation to The Primeval's military might. Based heavily on contemporary jetpack technology the ADX-100 does not allow one to hover in place, instead its wings provide maneuverability during free fall whilst its jets reduce momentum; allowing a safe landing.

A drop pack will operate at over 9,000 meters and is even smart enough to operate in rain, wind, and snow. Its only two downsides are that fuel burns out after one use and sometimes it won't work at all. As for the latter detail that's simply because a mass-produced device like this occasionally has flaws due to lack of quality assurance; that's classified information.

The ADX-100 can be equipped to nearly any armour type and has a carrying capacity of roughly 115kg in person, armour, and equipment. Anything above that will increase the risk of a much harder and likely deadlier landing or could even inhibit free fall maneuverability.

DZ Range: 50-350km (decreases continuously as one descends).
Fuel Consumption: 7 minutes of continuous thrust.

Strengths:
  • Like a parachute but not: The ADX-100 functions much like you would expect a futuristic parachute without the chute. It's meant for airborne military operations.
  • Simple, easy, cheap: Simple to understand, easy to operate, and cheap to produce.
Weaknesses:
  • Not 100% reliable: In rare circumstances an ADX-100 may 'refuse' to deploy its wings or even ignite the jets.
  • 'Fire and forget': Once used the drop pack will no longer have any use once the trooper has landed. Although it's entirely reusable!

I edited in the details under the description. Pretty much the wings are used to allow greater maneuverability during free fall in order to get to the DZ (drop zone). Whilst the thrusters are meant to slow the descent quite rapidly once relatively close to the ground. Even if there is any bit of fuel left it's not designed for thrust control meaning if you did use it as a jetpack you'd only be going up until it runs out.
