Description:
For centuries there has always been advancement in technology, however one advancement that has eluded the galaxy has been the ability for a mothership to protect her offspring with its own shield set. During the beginnings of the Yuuzhan Vong War, Lando Calrissian and his engineers came closer than anyone had previously been able to. That system made use of powerful ion generators, modified tractor transmitters, and repulsor technology to allow small craft like TIE Fighters to survive head on collisions with asteroids, and heavy fire from Yuuzhan Vong particle weapons from thousands of kilometers away. This amazing advancement was never attempted after its brief use due to the extreme cost of time and resources, the war straining these as it was. However the idea had existed much longer, and having been implemented successfully once, it was only a matter of time until someone else did.

Another aspect of technology was the SLD-26 Planetary Shield Generator. While Planetary shields had existed for millennia, the SLD-26 shows the ability to create a conical bubble extending outward from the source, rather than surrounding the source. This technology on a smaller scale was intended to assist in the progression of technology at stake.

Using similar components in a combination, such as a focus dish, ion generators, shield projector, emitter antenna, projection focusers, and tractor transmitters, the plan was to encapsulate other ships with the shields of the ship the system was installed on. This however proved, not only difficult, but nearly impossible to maneuver and coordinate effectively. Altering that plan, the system fires a condensed beam, locking on to specially modified receptors. Upon contact with one of those receptors the energy daisy chains across all other receptors on the recipient ship, creating its bubble, without restricting the movements of the receiver as the encapsulating bubble is emitted from it and thus moves with it. The condensed beam is invisible to the naked eye, but shows up on energy sensors like a bright beacon. It is also drawn to the modified receptors, which was necessary in order for the system to be used on sub-capital ships.

This is the node that receives energy, nothing more, and is useless without being targeted and hit by a Transfer Array. The system for sub-capital ships is fairly small, easy enough to install. Normally, it requires too much space for advanced shield systems on such ships or ships loaded down with advanced technology. A good mid-tier Star Fighter like a T-65 X-Wing could install it without having to sacrifice anything.

On Capital ships, the system is required to be much larger, and thus requires more space. Normally this means sacrificing a squadron of hangar space to install the mass of neutrino radiators and other electrical systems or half the cargo and passenger space in a vessel.

It should be noted that while in use, meaning receiving shield energy, stealth capabilities are laughable at best. Not only does the beam light up sensor boards, but the energy encapsulating the ship is that of a capital ship shield, easy for even the most basic of sensors to detect. This makes it easier for defensive weaponry and starfighters to get weapons locks on ships shielded in this way. Larger vessels are already hard to miss at normal range, and so the difference is less noticeable.

Does the beam track with ship's as the move around a battlefield? If another ship or object gets between the parent ship and the fighter, what happens?

That's been explained in the Parent Sub (The Actual Array). This is mainly just a limiter for that to keep it from being used across a whole fleet. All the limitations of the Beam itself and its abilities are being handled in that sub.

This is the node that receives the energy and makes use of it. Without being targeted and struck, its useless. In the parent sub I included a number of ways to disrupt it (Large masses in the way, Interdiction fields, active shields on the target).

But to answer the question, a large enough object (Say one class up from the target) getting in the way would disrupt it. And yes the beam tracks with the target.
The Canon Example has it being used on TIE Fighters and being perfectly fine navigating through (Not across) an asteroid field with no issues while being targeted by a ship that was planetside. This one is a bit more limited.
