DESCRIPTION
Taken from the schematics of the Keldabe-class Battleship, the Leecher Weapon of old was examined, reverse engineered, and redesigned. Using a hulk of a Keldabe-class Battleship, retribution shields, and information on directed energy transfer capabilities, the Energy Siphon cannon was created.

The weapon fires a short beam at an enemy ship, and upon making contact with the enemy's shields, it tears at it, pulling energy away from the shield system and cycling it back to the host ship. The beam operates much like an ion cannon, being a long electromagnetic containment sheath containing negative-ion plasma like would be found in an Ion Bolt. However, once the beam makes contact with an energy shield, the sheath, which is charged to expel negative-ion energy, draws in the charged energy from the shield funneling it back towards the host ship. Much of the energy is lost in the transfer as the charged energy is affected by the ion plasma used to give the electromagnetic beam its negative charge or lost in the void of space, with only about a sixty percent being transferred into the host ship, assisting in recharging its own shields.

The weapon system is fairly large, requiring more space than a Heavy Hypervelocity Cannon, and attempts to miniaturize have yet to bear fruit as the massive neutrino-Radiators, Energy Transformers, and the Ion Pulse Turbine used to power the weapon are still new technology to the engineers. Furthermore, there must be somewhere to shunt the energy absorbed to, normally shields being the obvious choice. The weapon has a fairly long recharge rate making it a heavy weapon, used to give an edge for a few moments in crucial points in combat.

The Energy Siphon Cannon is on par with 25 Capital Ship Grade Ion Cannons in terms of output over time and restores roughly 60% (15 Capital Ship Grade Ion Cannons) of that power to its host's shields. It has similar power draw and space requirements as 40 Capital Ship Guns. The Energy Siphon Cannon has almost no effect on the hull or internal power systems of a ship unlike a standard Ion Cannon, and is unable to damage or draw energy directly from an unshielded ship.

Strengths:
  • Siphon: The weapon steals energy from other ships to recharge its own shields or other weapons, but the transfer rate is about 60%, the rest is lost.
Weaknesses:
  • Big and Bulky: It takes up a lot of space due to the size of the necessary sub-systems, and the size of the weapon itself. Due to this it has trouble targeting smaller ships, like frigates, is unlikely to be effective.
  • Short Range: The Weapon's range is a bit less than that of a Turbolaser, about 3/4ths, so other ships will have time to hammer the ship before they need to worry about this weapon.
  • Energy Only: If there are not shields to leech from, this weapon isn't useful, dealing almost no structural damage and unable to absorb energy without a shield to take it from.

Removed and no the RP isn't done, all we have done is enter the ship, I wanted to know how long it would need to be and the christmas break halted it a bit.
