ACS-402 Vehicle Shield Generator
Intent: To modernize Vehicles and Tanks for Combat
Development Thread: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/55758-dont-hit-me/

Manufacturer: ArmaTech Combat Systems and MandalHypernautics
Model: Mk1
Affiliation: Open Market
Modularity: No
Production: Mass
Material: Power Generator, Shield Projector, etc

Classification: Multipurpose
Special Features:
  • Provides additional protection for vehicles in the field against Energy Weapons
Weaknesses:
  • Power Draw: The shield system draws power from a dedicated generator during normal operation, however in order to defend against High Powered Energy Weapons, (Anti-Tank Weapons) it must draw power off the main generator of the vehicle, reducing its output, normally meaning the main weapon cannot be fired while this is occurring (this excludes Slugthrower based cannons as they don’t require power from a generator)
  • Too Large to Modify, it must be built into the vehicle from design rather than added to one already designed
Description:
Filling the third tier of vehicle defense, based around the idea that weapons that do not strike the hull cause no damage, a shield system is often installed on modern combat vehicles. Basically a Starfighter Shielding system miniaturized to fit on a smaller vehicle. Designed off the concepts of the ancient Chempat “Defender” Deflector Shield generator it provides vastly increased durability to vehicles on the ground. The massive amount of space required to house the module requires the shield generator to be part of the design, meaning it cannot be modified onto a vehicle. In addition its power draw prevents the shields from being used effectively while the vehicle is attempting to move a maximum speed or fire energy based primary or large energy based secondary energy weapons. Finally, unlike the Chempat generators the ACS-402 only provides a ray shielding, leaving the vehicle somewhat exposed to hypersonic kinetic rounds, solid explosives, and missile weaponry.

Just to clarify, this is a ray shield generator?

The difference between ground based tanks and Starfighters however is that most Starfighters rely on their shields as their hulls are relatively weak, while in ground assault tanks, their armor is a key component, arguably the most important part of the vehicle
Just wanted to make it perfectly clear that this is not the case. Starship hulls are easily just as durable, if not more so, than ground vehicles and emplacements. They are quite unlike fighter jets of the current (real world) era. The difference between the two is that space combat involves rounds that move tens to hundreds of times faster with incredible velocity than that of the typical tank round fired in-atmosphere. It is also notable that turbolasers are used for planetary bombardment and would cripple a tank just as quickly as it would a fighter. A mass driver used in space has much more potential for damage than a mass driver fired from a tank on the ground.

Ah, yes. TIE fighters were famously fragile, that would be correct. During that period of time there were some rather oddly designed starships with poor hull designs, but it does not apply to the majority of starships into this era.

Approved, pending secondary.
