ACS-207 Acidthrower
Intent: Make an alternative type of flamethrower
Development Thread: As needed
Manufacturer: ArmaTech Combat Systems
Model: Mk1
Affiliation: Open Market
Modularity: Sizes (Full Rifle, Under-Barrel, and Wrist)
Production: Minor
Material: Flamethrower Components, Fluoroantimonic Acid

Classification: Acid Thrower
Size: Variable (Two-Handed, Under-Barrel, Wrist)
Length: 1 Meter (Rifle), 30 Centimeters (Under-Barrel), 20 Centimeters (Wrist)
Weight: 4 Kilograms (Rifle), 1 Kilogram (Under-Barrel), .67 Kilograms (Wrist)
Ammunition Type: Liquid Acid
Ammunition Capacity:

  • Rifle: Eight Minutes (160 Bursts)
  • Under-Barrel: Four Minutes (80 Bursts)
  • Wrist: Two minutes (40 Bursts)
Effective Range:
  • Rifle: 20 Meters
  • Under-Barrel: 10 Meters
  • Wrist: 5 Meters
Rate of Fire: Three Second Bursts
Special Features:
  • Caustic: Rather than burning with heat it eats through metal. The rate at which it eats through metallic substances is based on the density, thickness, and durability of that substance. Though it can melt through some armors within seconds, thicker heavier armors can last minutes or hours, and being a handheld weapon, it is not effective against vehicle armor in combat, though it will cause permanent damage if left unchecked for too long.
Description:
The ACS-207 Acid Thrower is a great alternative to a flamethrower. With many heat resistant armors on the market, including several produced by ArmaTech, the company designed an alternative. Rather than spraying napalm or other flammable substances, the acidthrower sprays a diluted form of Fluoroantimonic Acid, the most volatile known superacid capable of melting its way through most known metals and Ionic/polar substances. Despite focusing on armor penetration, it is deadly to humans and can dissolve humanoid flesh easily, though not as swiftly as some lighter materials, and immediate response to skin contact is suggested to minimize its damaging effects. Its known to have an extremely violent reaction to water. Avoid using in aquatic environments.

The model is relatively short ranged, and though the larger rifle model has an abundance of fuel, carrying that much in a compressed tank can be dangerous if the tank is ruptured. The smaller versions are shorter range still, and have smaller tanks than most Flamethrowers of comparable size. The cone of effect is one meter at its widest point with a rifle, and half a meter wide with the Under-Barrel and Wrist Mounted versions, being somewhat smaller than the flamethrower versions.

its primary focus is armor penetration and does only limited damage to flesh
Fluoromantimonic Acid is known to be extremely lethal in even the smallest of doses (in terms of skin exposure). It burns through human flesh rather quickly, why and how is it that in this case it does not? And if it does not, how is it capable of penetrating armor?

For the record, the above-mentioned acid has a Ph of -31.3, which makes sulfuric acid look like a tamed cat in comparison. This would melt glass, then the ground the glass melted on, then through the permacrete floor, then through the foundation of the building it's on, and then deep into the ground from there (assuming there's not a teflon container holding it).

The changes are appropriate per the questions above, just remember to stay away from water (or moisture in general)! I mean, unless you like melting.

Approved, pending secondary.
