DESCRIPTION
The Acer-Class Blastboat was a heavy gunship developed by Kuat Drive Yards. In the wake of the Imperial Bloc treaty, the shipyard once abandoned by Sith loyalists was left defenseless against pirates and the like. While before Kuat stood as a fortress world, protected by its many dreadnoughts and capital vessels, rogue Sith-Imperial Warlords stole many of these leaving Kuat nearly defenseless. First developed in small numbers, the Acer was a large and maneuverable gunship capable of keeping pace with modern fighters of the day while simultaneously putting out enough firepower to challenge the small pirate vessels that sought to raid the now weakened Kuat Sector. Expensive without the backing of a major power, the Acer-Class saw a resurgence after Kuat joined the Galactic Alliance as part of Lord Regent Loghain's stream of executive orders which increased ship production and poured money into the strengthening of Kuat's defense.

At a length of 25 meters, the Acer offered a long and bulky spaceframe that was contrary to its speed and maneuverability in combat. Though large, the vessel only consisted of a single deck which was composed of the pilot's chair, a co-pilot or navigator's seat, and two gunnery positions for weapons manipulation. In the rear of the cabin there were two small cots for and four jumper seats which meant the Acer could technically hold up to six passengers, though the cabin would become cramped but expanded the Acer's mission profile considerably and was a valuable alternative when dedicated troop carriers weren't available. The weapons compliment of the Acer was vast and included medium laser cannons, torpedo, flex-missile tubes, and a heavy twin laser cannon turret. The swivel-mounted medium laser cannons were connected to the ship's two large wings which jutted from the main fuselage of the Acer. Though pointed forward, their mount allowed for skilled gunners or pilots to catch ships unaware in combat, arcing fire from angles that would otherwise be impossible on fixed mounted weapons. One of the ship's most dangerous weapons was its powerful composite beam laser on its nose which worked in conjunction with the two weapons hardpoints on its gyroscopic fin mechanism to project the laser which was capable of dealing serious damage to light warships with a single shot. The weapon drew power directly from the Acer's hyperdrive which made retreat on its own impossible after consecutive shots of sustained fire from the cannon.

The shields and armor of this monstrous craft were much less robust than its weapons compliment which made them flying glass cannons. Outside of its own weak armor and shields, however, the tail module housed its hyperdrive, as well as the firing mechanism for its composite beam laser which when under heavy stress or severely damaged by enemy fire, could end the vessel's career violently. These cost-cutting techniques were incredibly prolific in early models and even though they are less so now, they still limit the vessel which meant only the surest of pilots could make a successful ace career out of flying the Acer. Due to the Lord Regent's executive order and further contracts with the Galactic Alliance, the cost of the Acer has been significantly reduced and by the time of the Battle of Mygeto the Acer was beginning to see use in other private defense forces as well as well-off pirate groups in the Outer Rim and Wild Space territories.
