Description:
The ABT-36 is a reimagining of the ancient Federation AAT for the modern battlefields of today. This model of the tank is much sturdier than its ancient counterpart as it offers a denser shell, heavier weapons and larger payload. In the way of armaments the tank possesses a single Heavy Laser Cannons on its turret, two Hellcaster cannons mounted on either side of the tank and directly below the turret. On the lower half of the tank you will find two light anti-personnel blaster cannons and 6 warhead launchers each capable of being loaded with varieties of missiles, shells and slugs. Each warhead launcher was capable of carrying 10 projectiles, giving it a payload of 60 available warheads before resupply.
Much like the original AAT, the ABT-36 only requires a resupply of its warheads which is a quick and simple process. The bottom “disk” of the craft is unlocked and removed and a fresh disk is put in its place. This method also serves as the field repair method for any damage done to the vehicle’s lower half during battle. The completion time of the process can range from a quick 30 second snap-on, snap-off to 5 minutes for severe cases. While the payloads are heavily protected inside encased durasteel, the rupulser lift platforms are very vulnerable to attack and damage. Unlike the AAT, however, this model is not controlled by droid pilots but by an independent droid brain that uses a variety of hidden sonar, heat and laser sensors to maneuver. This brain is housed deep within the tank, behind layers of thick durasteel, fiberplast and other mechanics which allows the tank to take substantial damage to its interior. However, if the maintenance hatch on the top of the craft is broken into it would be easy to use explosives to permanently disable the vehicle. It also worth mentioning that the tank has zero defense capability against air units.
All of the important equipment is found in the core of the vehicle where the protection is the most. The tank is also capable of carrying 12 battle droids into the field, thanks to the extra room due to the droid brain control system (6 droids in a cargo bay, 6 on the external holds). The droids could be loaded and off-loaded through a ramp in the back. This ramp leads into a durasteel holding bay that separates the ramp from the main components of the craft.
