EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION & SKILL TRAINING
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Formal Education:
  • General Education through tutors and instructors for children within Clan Ryo on Shikaakwa.
  • Informal Education in business, galactic geography and sociology, economics, and spacefaring learned 'on the job' living in Naos III. Extends to language training also.
Combatives Education:
  • Trained in traditional Iridonian unarmed combat by her father, a Zabrak from Iridonia.
  • Received further training in Stava and Echani Martial Arts later from unknown instructors, becoming rather proficient in numerous techniques from both styles, particularly Stava.
  • Received marksmanship training in blaster pistols and similar weapons during her teenage years on Naos III.
  • Her unarmed combat skills are particularly devastating in personal combat, or even against several foes at once, though against a master opponent she would find it much more difficult than fighting untrained spacers or soldiers with basic combat training and would risk serious injury or worse.
  • Her skills with blasters only extend to quick-draw skills and proficiency with pistols, and she is largely unfamiliar / inexperienced with other weapons systems and types.
  • Finally, she has no formal training in military-style tactics and her experiences make her poorly suited for battlefield-type situations.
Pilot's Instruction:
She began honing her skills at a very young age, learning to pilot her parents’ T-16 Skyhopper while growing up on Shikaakwa. Later, after coming to live on Naos III, she began receiving training as a starfighter and shuttle pilot, and found that she was quite at home in the cockpit. Her skills quickly improved, and by her 18th Name Day, she’d made her first four kills in aerial combat. She continued to develop, flying as a starfighter pilot for various raiders and pirates, and piloting small smuggling ships throughout the Outer Rim Territories. Eventually, she gained a reputation as a mercenary pilot, noted for her nerves of steel and the ‘ice water’ that many claimed circulated throughout her veins, famous for her daring, ruthlessness, and masterful skills. She has studied the exploits of several of the galaxy’s greatest pilots and squadrons and has learned to emulate them effectively, all of which increased her reputation and the bounty placed on her head! Her passive Force abilities may enhance her skills, reflexes, and awareness as pilot, though this theory has never been closely tested or observed.

On the bridge of a capital ship, Aayla would be entirely out of her element, but in the cockpit of most any starfighter or at the helm of any small ship (50m and under), she is a veritable prodigy. Her perfectionism and compulsive-obsessive traits, coupled with her seemingly unlimited confidence and optimism equate to brilliant flying and a level of daring that almost crosses into recklessness at times. Aayla is an inspiring leader, and the various squadrons and flights she’s led over the years as a mercenary pilot seem to instantly gravitate towards her, becoming more confident, bolder, and enthusiastic, inspired by her own exploits and zeal.

Aayla is a fair mechanic when she must be, but prefers to leave these duties to technicians and boffins, rather than to do them herself. As she is fond of saying, “I fly ‘em and I brake ‘em, I don’t fix ‘em!”. She is well-versed in starfighter strategy, astro-navigation, and general spacefaring skills, and is often more at home aboard a starship than planet-side.

Other Instruction:
  • An undercover stint for several months, aimed at stealing a starfighter prototype stolen by another gangster, Aayla - using the name "Dia'rela" and under the guise of a slavegirl and exotic dancer - learned many skills, including several alluring and provocative dances, associated with this role.
  • Having traveled extensively, and having a knack for languages, Aayla has learned many trade languages and dialects used throughout the galaxy.
  • Aayla is well-versed in practical aspects of business, economics, and - perhaps most unsettling - is very comfortable amid the dark alleys, dangerous watering holes, flashy nightclubs and casinos, and other hives of scum and villainy that make up the Galactic Underworld. More than once, she has been her Baroness' "Wingman" for jobs in these circles and each time, she has handled herself expertly in every circumstance.
  • Aayla has learned, over years among spacers, mercenaries, and criminals, to not only play - but to do become quite good at - sabacc, and anyone wishing to sit across from her at a gaming table should be prepared to leave with much lighter pockets.
  • Aayla has picked up other skills here and there, such as field dressing wounds, cooking in a ship's galley, or other spacer's skills.

PERSONAL PROFILE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personality Profile:

Aayla has seen her share of life and living, from an idyllic childhood on Shikaakwa, cut short by ancient rivalries begun centuries before her birth, to life among her family’s criminal empire on the harsh world of Naos III, to the spacer’s lanes and shadowports of the galaxy, and from the cockpit of a mercenary starfighter fighting for gold and glory. The result of this life on the road less traveled has shaped her in ways few – including herself – can really begin to grasp.

The middle daughter to three children, born out of the unlikely love between a Zabrak male and Twi’lek female, and into Clan Ryo, a longstanding Twi’lek criminal empire with interests and influence across the galaxy, Aayla’s early years were happy. Shielded from the turbulent and dangerous world of crime, Aayla enjoyed a warm and loving environment, filled with supportive and caring parents, and close relationships with her brothers. She gained the adventurousness and curiosity of Twi’leks, and the single-minded determination, fearsome intensity, and absolute confidence of Zabraks. When her family were slain in a fast and brutal move by a rival clan, leaving just her and her little brother alive and drifting in the ocean amid the debris of their skiff, Aayla summoned great courage and resilience, keeping them both alive until they were rescued hours later. The event haunts her to this day, and nightmares return even now. For this reason, she has a dislike of boats and the open sea, and rarely even allows herself to enter a pool or tub.

Aayla and her brother, sent to Naos III, found a new home amid a cold, harsh world at the fringes of society, thrust into the same criminal undertakings that had led to her family’s deaths. Ever the survivor, she took to this life like a fish to water, and her skills and understanding grew with each day. By the time she reached majority, she was an experienced and lethal pilot, as ruthless and daring in the cockpit as she was savvy and self-assured on the ground. Aayla could fight and held her own even surrounded by the worst criminals and scoundrels in the galaxy. One of those fights led to her receiving several wounds from the knife of her foe, and though she survived, the experience – and the weeks of recovery which followed – instilled inside of her an awareness of her mortality. Redoubling her training, Aayla would go on to become one of the Outer Rim’s most noted and sought-after mercenary pilots. Death doesn’t frighten her, only death without purpose or meaning. Very little frightens her, actually, and in the cockpit of a starfighter, she is entirely the master of her own fate. Nothing unnerves her, and no matter how dangerous, she remains calm and disciplined albeit daring and bold – so much so that some think her to have a ‘death wish’, although she is just aware of her abilities and isn’t afraid to push herself to her breaking point to get the job done!

Aayla is guarded about her past, or many details of her private life. She has few friends, but even they have not the entire story of her life or the details of her personality. Aayla is loyal to Visanj and her crew, almost having adopted them as a surrogate family, and the only person in the galaxy to rival her affections and loyalty to them is her little brother Kao Ryo, the crime lord, still in the employ of their Clan.

Aayla knows her strengths and weaknesses, and doesn’t pretend to ignore them or imagine herself to be more than them anymore than she would ever stop trying to improve them. Her need to win, to be the best at what she does, and to push beyond herself to do even more is nigh-insatiable. Driven and determined, with unshakable confidence and courage, she is everything a starfighter jockey ought to be. Her humor, especially when at the controls of a starfighter, is witty and delivered in terse quips and wry remarks. She is incredibly charismatic, and able to win the trust, loyalty, and zeal of others easily, capable of inspiring those fighting under her command or with her towards acts of valor and almost fanatical devotion. With friends, she can be frank and genuine, able to relish a stiff drink, a good meal, or to cut loose and enjoy a night on the town. When needed, or desired, she can even summon an almost uncanny and primal sensuousness and coquettish allure, having learned early on the effect her appearance has on others and the power it yields. Since her enhancement procedures, Aayla has practiced extensively to maintain these personality traits, despite the effects - particularly of the Owl Enhancement Package - lessening anyone's suspicions regarding her as having had them, however this is a carefully-groomed and developed facade and those who knew her previously would, with time and observation, denote definite albeit subtle indications of changed disposition.

Appearance:

Aayla is considered, even by Twi’lek standards, to be exceptionally attractive, and there have been a few who have compared her to archival images of Darth Talon, particularly due to the similarities in each woman’s markings. However, her Zabrak heritage has left her extraordinarily fit and sculpted. Like most Zabrak, she has two hearts and a high degree of resilience against pain, though lacks the horns common to this species. Her twin lekku are long and slender, and easily her most recognizable feature, with her vibrant golden eyes coming in a close second.

When she walks, she will confess, she has maintained a vestige of the swagger and sway she perfected while undercover as a dancer, and carries herself with a confident, self-assured demeanor. Though normally, her actions reflect the tough, hell-for-leather, daring she is known for, she can – when she desires, or when the situation calls for it – she is capable of being quite flirtatious and seductive with her mannerisms and expressions, well-aware of the effect her sensuality and looks have on others, of both sexes and most all humanoid species!

Personal History:

Very little is known about Aayla’s history, due to her reticence to speak of her childhood and teenage years. What is known is that Aayla’s mother was some relation to the Clan Ryo, one of the most powerful criminal families on Shikaawka, having a long and storied history on that planet. She fell in love with a freed Zabrak male slave, and the pair became lovers with him eventually becoming her consort. They had a happy life, raising three children – Aayla and her two brothers, one older or younger. Aayla’s childhood on Shiaakwa was seemingly carefree until, sometime around her fourteenth Name Day, rivals of Clan Ryo launched an attack against the family while they were out on a skiff in the ocean. Only Aayla and her little brother, Kao, survived, with Aayla keeping them both afloat on debris of the skiff until they were rescued many hours later.

The children were sent to kinsmen on Naos III, where they joined the family’s criminal business there. Both Aayla and Kao seemed to have quickly taken to this life, though Aayla hated the icy cold of their new world and longed to leave it. Aayla quickly showed promise as a pilot, and in no time was flying smuggling ships and later graduated to piloting starfighters as a pirate raider. By 849, an accomplished smuggler and pirate, she set out on her own, becoming a mercenary pilot throughout the Outer Rim Territories. During the next several years, she traveled throughout the galaxy, visiting places like Takodana, Tatooine, Nar Shaddaa, Ord Mantell, Point Nadir, Smuggler’s Run, and elsewhere. She gained extensive aerial combat experience, flying in the service of different mercenary companies, pirate groups, and others.

Eventually, she came to settle on Dagata IV, having befriended its Baroness, Visanj T’shkali, and joined the Dagatan Militia’s starfighter squadrons and often flying special missions for the Baroness herself. When the Baroness went to join the Confederacy of Independent Systems, fighting at the Battle of Taanab, Aayla went with her, but instead of leading or flying starfighters, she worked aboard one of the capital ships helping to coordinate starfighter movements. Aayla has since become a Lieutenant Commander in the Confederate Navy, a position negotiated by the Baroness, who has brought Aayla in to help as a test pilot on new CIS ships being developed by the Ministry of Science. While Aayla’s own loyalty to the CIS is not above question, her loyalty to her Baroness is beyond reproach and thus, for so long as the Baroness holds faith with the Confederacy, so too will she, even if it means dying in its service.

Aayla’s little brother Kao remains a criminal leader in service to Clan Ryo, and is her point of contact to her various ties in the galactic underworld. The pair communicate regularly, and maintain a close relationship, and she uses her connection with him to get special shipments of Naos Sharptooth, which she shares with the Baroness. It is known that Aayla’s exploits as a criminal and mercenary pilot are something of legend among the Outer Rim, and at times she has lived a colorful life, from working undercover as a slave and exotic dancer to infiltrate a rival gangster’s and steal his stolen starfighter prototype to life as a pirate and pilot-of-fortune on the Rim, rubbing elbows with and walking beside some of the galaxy’s most notorious figures.

Personal Possessions & Effects:

Aayla’s normal clothing consists of a grey knit scoop-necked tank top, fitted close, worn over a halter-style sports bra, thin high-cut shorts, and sensual bindings on her lekku, arms, and legs, all usually hidden beneath a trim-fitting black flight suit, the kind favored by Imperial pilots during the Galactic Civil War. Outside of those, a Corellian-style gun belt with a low-slung holster carrying an old but perfectly-maintained A-180 blaster pistol. She also wears tactical style boots. On her hands, fingerless black leather gloves that cover to her wrists are worn, as she prefers to feel the controls of a starship directly. Though, at times, different attire is more appropriate. In these rare cases, Aayla often dresses provocatively, a trait not uncommon to Twi’lek or Zabrak females, often choosing revealing, flattering, and eye-catching clothing.

Aayla maintains a small locket, which contains a micro-projected holo-image of her parents and brothers, taken not long before their deaths, and another, more recent image of her surviving brother, Kao. She also is known to carry a Ranger fighting-utility knife in her boot, and rumor has it, she is quite capable of using it in close combat. Beyond these few possessions, Aayla travels light, able to pack most everything she owns into a single flight bag.

Relationships:

Baroness Visanj T’shkali - A close friend and sometime confidante, the Baroness is probably the person closest to Aayla besides her brother, Kao. The two have known one another for many years, and more than a few times Aayla has worked with Visanj, as well as fighting under her command at the Battle of Taanab.

Basulla “Tully” Tularhen - A seasoned and veteran spacer, now serving among the Baroness’ crew, the two share a profound mutual respect, having each known the other’s reputations before meeting. They get along well, and Tully is one of the few souls in the ‘verse with whom she allows herself to relax.

Sand’rah Giri - The Baroness’ adopted daughter shares a special, albeit recently forged, relationship with Aayla, viewing her as a ‘fun aunt’ who often encourages her youthful indulgences and has become something of a confidante and mentor to the young woman. Sandy often looks forward to visits with Aayla, although the Baroness is wary of their bond, considering Aayla to be perhaps a somewhat bad influence on the impressionable Sandy.

Kao Ryo - Her only surviving brother, the pair are very close and share everything with one another. Kao’s criminal connections and his authority across the Underworld has time and again proven a useful resource for her. To many, Kao is a dangerous crime lord and a man not to be trifled with, but to Aayla, the powerful, dangerous, and wildly charming man is simply her dearest friend and she is still protective of him, although he no longer needs this protection. While they do not visit one another as much as they like, they do communicate almost daily.
