A Trip Home to Kiffu

With one smooth jump Nemene hopped out of her Kuat Drive Yards Blackbird Stealth ship. Her eyes darted around for a few moments, searching the area around her. When she confirmed that no one was around she nodded slightly to herself reaching back into the stealthfighter and pulling out her lightsaber and Blas-tech ripper.

She strapped the sub-machine gun onto her lower back and hooked the saber-staff in place on her thigh, securing it onto the leather greaves.

The Queen of Rattatak stretched for a moment, looking about the surface of the barren world. In the distance she could see the massive lightning spires that her people used to collect energy, she watched as a massive pillar of light jumped down onto one, electricity crackling and sparking for just a few moments before dissipating entirely.

Her lips thinned.

Kiffu was dangerous for more reason than one. For starters it was under the control of The Omega Protectorate, a government that would not welcome her little incursion here. Second was the weather of the planet, storms and deadly dry lightning were disturbingly common here, and of course last but not least where the massive Energy Spiders that now roamed Kiffu, predators that threatened the lives of those foolish enough to venture out alone.

Her ancestral homeworld was no vacation spot.

Perhaps that was why Moridin had chosen to place one of his vaults here, perhaps that was why her father had been so keen on hiding his secrets on his homeworld. Or perhaps he just had an inkling for poetic justice. She frowned for a second, then began to head off towards the west, away from the spires.

Veino glared at the ground around him. So much for no longer being new enough of a hitchhiker to get stranded on places you didn't want stranded. It was rather embarrassing, actually. He didn't have much choice though, unfortunately, except to soldier on and try to find some civilization. He hitched his pack up higher on his shoulders, and started walking, scanning the horizon for something that didn't seem likely to kill him. Not much luck. So, he picked a direction, and started trudging that way, hoping he might me someone who could help him get to wherever he was going.

Nemene walked through the landscapes of Kiffu with slow steps. She decided to move slowly, decided that it was necessary to go about this in a methodical manner. It would take time to find her fathers vault, time to find what he had stashed away so well.

An annoying little thing of course, but Moridin had always liked to play games with her, had always liked to make her find things he had hidden. It had started with a Doll, and now it was coming down to find journals and pieces of artifacts, funny how growing up worked. The Queen of Rattatak smiled slightly as she wandered through her homeworld, nostalgia blooming through her as she walked.

She let out a sigh after the fifth mile passed under her feet.

The trail to her fathers vault was not an easy one to find, not one that was highlighted either, but if one looked carefully it was easy enough to see. A scrolling of Sith language there, ancient Kiffar scribbling here, old and nearly destroyed runic markers on a tree trunk or perhaps an old ruin. Not difficult to find if you were looking for them, but impossible to track if you did not know Moridin.

Her father had been a sly one.

Veino looked around, frowning. Everything looked the same. He had no idea if he'd gone in circles or traveled a hundred miles in one direction. He sat down on a rock, kicking at dirt, and then bent down to examine it more closely. Ancient writing of some sort. Nothing he could decipher though, so he sat back up and pulled out his canteen, taking small sips. Of all the places he had been stranded, this was one of the worst, if not the worst. So be it. He shrugged and settled down on the rock to rest a while.

Nemene kept walking, stepping through desert, rocks, and absolute nothingness.

Finally she happened upon a group of ruins. Destroyed stone pillars, half fallen buildings, and grown over rocks that seemed to permeate everywhere. She raised an eyebrow at the sight of it all. From her fathers markings she could tell she was growing near, or at least nearer to where the vault could be, but this? This was nothing but destruction and waste. She let out a sigh, it would be just like her father to hide something valuable here.

Suddenly she stopped, her foot hanging in mid-air. The force sent out a pang to her, a pang of life. Her boot hit the ground and she scowled, there was somebody else here, somebody alive. Immediately Nemene drew the Ripper from her back, the blaster powering up immediately with a silent whirr.

“Cat.” She said as she took a step into the ruins. “And mouse.”

Slowly she moved into the ruins, stalking through the abandoned buildings and pillars. This was her secret, nobody elses.

Veino looked up, startled, as a sense of danger crashed around him. He slipped off the rock and down to a crouch, listening. What was this new danger? Some creature? One of the storms? Was he being stalked by some being? He couldn't tell, and he couldn't risk lowering the emotional shields to try to discern what they were. He chewed his lip. To move or stay still was the decision that had to be made. One gave a better zone of vision. The other made it harder to be seen. He unclipped his lightsaber and held it in his hand, lowering himself further to lie flat on the ground, crawling slowly towards a larger chunk of ruin to use as cover.
He inched forwards, stopping every few seconds to lie flat and listen until he was safely behind the larger block. He took a deep breath and probed gently with the Force, searching for whatever might have caused the warning.
