A time of reflection, a time of celebration!

Location: Planet Teyr of the Surric System

1 year. 1 long and arduous year since the civil war that had torn his people asunder. Since they had risen up to fight their oppressive viceroy that had held them in chattel slavery. That had sold out his people for money and power abroad, for cheap corporate labor and resources to be sent outwards. A time of great hardship and pain for his people. Draconis himself had left the system to join the Confederate Armed Forces to provide for his parents and family, a move that would prove most futile in the end. So many were lost in that absolutely needless endeavor. So many lives sacrificed for the freedom for people to live as people, not under a corporate thumb. So much destruction wrought, weapons of mass destruction employed by a desperate dictator hoping to cling to power. Such sadness and sacrifice. His entire system had been devastated in the war, people torn from homes, cities burned to the ground in nuclear hellfire, and even orbital stations dropped onto the planet below as weapons. His people had suffered, they had endured. And in the end, they had won. Thanks to the edicts of Confederacy First, thanks to a Vicelord calling out the viceroyalty to be more transparent with their handling of systems and the spread of rumors that an Inquisition had been started, his people realized they could be free. They had fought for their rights to live as citizens of Surric, and of the Confederacy. They waged war for their very ways of life to change.

And today marked the one year anniversary of that fateful day when the first battle was commenced.

The damage had been extensive but the people had rebuilt. Where once poverty and ramshackle homes had been erected, new solid structures of ferrocrete, durasteel, and duraplast had been erected. State of the art signs, living spaces, and traffic coordination replaced the dirt paths and choked skies of old. Where once you would only find those with dirty faces, malnourished bodies, and broken spirits there were stands that now sold various oddities from clothing to fresh fruit, vegetables, meat markets and so much more. People smiled to one another and would wave hello to total strangers, the street itself full of life and vigor as the various citizens were abuzz with the announced plans for this entire week.

All restoration work was to be suspended, in fact all work that wasn't relegated as critical to the functioning of the Surric System would be suspended with all workers being given paid leave. For the next week a government holiday was to take place. The very first annual celebration of Surric's own "Independence Day". A massive parade was planned, fireworks ordered and mustered, various food vendors selling whatever they could on the streets as a massive banquet was prepared for all for the evening. And across the city of To'lek, the new capital of the thriving system wide government, people were ecstatic. Great leaps and bounds had been made, their current reigning Viceroy having been officially re-elected to office by a landslide margin. The only person this had come as a surprise to being the Viceroy Draconis himself.

So much had been planned for this day, citizen and resident alike were to be out to see everything this day would bring. Draconis had even extended an invitation to the members of the Viceroyalty to pay the planet a visit should they so wish. It was to be a glorious day, and one that was very near and dear to every person of the Surric System's heart. It was the day they had began their road to freedom. The day that they all had heard the Confederacy's call to action, to rise up and tell their old Viceroy that they would be slaves no longer. Draconis couldn't help but wipe away tears of sadness and bittersweet joy from his eyes as he remembered all that had happened. Down to the first thoughts when he'd been appointed the temporary viceroy after the battle was finally won.

The utter dumbfounded look he remembered giving him when he'd received those very words. How? He was a military man. He had no experience in government, in guiding people in such a manner. He'd been immediately corrected when he was told to look upon the faces of the very volunteers that had helped him storm the capital building. They were not military men and women. They were farmers, steelworkers, fishermen, factory workers, even a few speeder drivers and cargo pilots. And they had looked to him in their time of need, so it was his duty to continue to lead these people. Thus the first year of reconstruction began. A long year to be sure. One that Draconis had literally jumped from one fire to the next, not having anything but an ideal end state and a dream of his people being prosperous once more to keep him going.

And now before him stood a massive city that was constantly growing, soon allowing for the construction of suburbs, an expanded market and entertainment districts, and so much more. Today was to be a glorious day. A day where all would be able to take a break from the work of restoration of the planets and take a moment to reflect on the past, celebrate the now, and hope for the future! Draconis eagerly awaited the celebrations to come, and perhaps the arrival of a few visitors should his invitation have been accepted.
