Sun Ki'wan
Character
It was the day after Sun had lost his father, the day after he had became chieftain of the tribe, and it was the day he would go on his pilgrimage to become one with Man’a and learn to utilize it like all chieftains that came before him. A hand rubbing through his white hair Sun exited his tent and looked up at the sky as the nearby sun rose washing him in light. He didn’t feel its heat however due to how far away it was and because the steam vents and lava pits offered more then enough to keep him and his kind warm on the harsh planet.
“Aw you finally awake. Are you ready for your pilgrimage my son?” Zuma asked. SUn jumped a little not even knowing his mother had been waiting for him.
“YEs mother, but first let me speak to the rest of the tribe in case I don’t come back soon.”
“There is no need to son, they know where you’ll be going and the Man’a willing we will be back before the humans try anything else, it will take them time to recoup from their loss as they probably expect of us. So let us hurry the faster this is over the faster we can be back to prepare the tribe for war.”Zuma said pushing off of the rock that she had been sitting on and turning her back on Sun while she walked. It was obvious that she was still heartbroken over his father dying but Sun couldn’t blame her. It had just happened last night.
Though for some reason he didn’t feel sad. Maybe it was the smile upon his father’s face as he embraced Man’a or it was the fact that he knew his father wouldn’t have to see what would possibly come next.
Zuma wore her traditional shaman robes while Sun on the other hand wore a pair of white pants and had forgone the shirt due to not needing it. The Versi’Ra were able to endure some of the planets harsh weather. “How long will we be gone?” Sun asked his mother like a over zealous child.
“Who knows it all depends on you. We could take days, weeks maybe even months for you to become one with Man’a. It took me only two days yet your father took over two weeks.” Sun said not angry at Sun yet her voice was dull as though she was deep in thought.
“Wait what about food or other supplies?!” Sun exploded he didn’t think he could last days without eating or drinking.
“Man’a will provide you with everything you need for this journey. When you become one with it you shall understand.” Zuma said as they crossed the landscape lava flowing freely across some spots of the ground. No fear was shown her face solid like a statue. Sun on the other hand wasn’t as comfortable getting that close to the streams of lava, and in the distance he saw a cave that was in the side of a volcano. IT was open like a beasts mouth and was strangely calling to Sun as he felt a shiver go down his spine.
“YEs that is where we’re going, it is where you shall become one with Man’a but only you can enter at first. Only when you become one shall I be able to enter.” Zuma warned as the two began the hike up the side of the volcano.
Total if Sun was correct it had taken them over three hours to reach it and as he stood on the edge of the cave he looked behind himself where he could see the tribe in the distance. “Go forth my son. Follow your destiny.” Zuma said taking a seat on a boulder that sat outside the cave. She crossed her legs and closed her blue eyes beginning to meditate. “I shall be here when you return.”
The inside of the cave was pitch black looking like a large maw and from inside what sounded like moans flowed to Sun’s ears. Looking back at his mother he saw her eyes were closed and that she was meditating. He was on his own.
Taking a deep breath Sun’s muscular chest rose and fell before he took one step into the cave, then another, but by the third something happened. The cave began to light up with a ghostly blue mist that flowed past and through Sun. When he breathed it in he felt like his insides were freezing yet he continued into the cave. On the walls there were markings and drawings showing different figures using the elements.
One showed a women with one arm cast out and the other at her side and what appeared to be flames flying from her hands. While the second showed a man with one foot forward and the other back with both hands shooting upwards while a stone wall stood before him. The third was someone with their arms and legs spread as though they were flying through the air. The final one showed a women standing as though she had just spun and around her the water swirled as though they were in a intimate dance.
Sun couldn’t help but to stop and observe the drawings rubbing his hands across them becoming absorbed in what he saw. These were showing the ways the shamans had harnessed the mana and used it. The drawings had to of been there for centuries yet it still seemed as though ti had been painted fresh. Sun pulled away as he felt the warm liquid beneath his fingers.
Without even having to bring his fingers to his nose he knew the smell. It was blood then he began to choke as the blue mist changed to red and set his lungs on fire. He wanted to scream but couldn’t and then from behind him he saw a pair of beastly red eyes open a mighty roar coming from it. He saw the sharp teeth and the mouth that opened almost as wide as the cave.
Pushing himself to his feet Sun ran deeper into the cave through his pain. The sound of heavy footsteps followed him along with growls from the beast that chased him. Sun’s legs pumped as he ran with a speed faster then almost any other humanoid. Skidding to a stop he reached a circular room with no signs of a exit. The pain in his chest dissapeared as the mist turned to a light green feeling as though it was soothing his lungs and healing the damage that had been cause earlier. The beast didn’t stop though and as it exploded into the room it slowly dispersed right before it ate Sun.
The young Versi’ra stood their shaking from head to toe as sweat poured down his body uncontrollably. “Well then, I didn’t expect to see you so soon." A familiar voice said from behind Sun and when he turned he saw his father sitting cross legged on a pedestal. “Good to see you again.”
“You.. You died. I saw your body join Man'a” Sun stuttered as his eyes widened looking upon his father as though he had never died though his body had taken on a blueish glow.
“No I did not die. I was accepted by Man’a. I ascended to a plain where only the dead can go. It is my task to guide you as you become one with the great MAn’a.” Sun’s father said as Sun stumbled forward and reached out to touch his father to find his hand going through him.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t help you.” Sun mumbled tears welling in his eyes.
“It’s not your fault son, in fact I don’t mind this to much.” His father said a smile covering his face. “Though I don’t have much time. Let’s begin the process. I need you to close your eyes and lower all your defenses. Completely opening yourself to Man’a just relax and calm your mind. "
Sun did as he was told but didn’t see as his father began waving his hands before his face then it was like a flowing river began to pour into Sun his eyes opening as he felt its power flowing through him. He felt a connection to all living things, his mother the other Versi’Ra and humans that inhabited Barafka then in a instant it was gone his body collapsing to the floor unconscious.
When Sun came to he found his head resting on his mothers lap who was sitting over him meditating once again. JErking straight up Sun finally saw the circular room for what it really was. WAter poured freely into a pit on one side of the room while the other had a nice calm flow of lava. The only exit had been blocked by a wall of stone.
“How do you feel my son?” Zuma asked eyeing Sun cautiously with some worry in her eyes her golden curls tickling his face.
Opening and closing his hand Sun felt vastly different as though he had tapped into a pool of knowledge and power. “I feel better then ever. How long have I been out."
"You've been in here for five days." ZUma said which shocked Sun greatly he felt no hunger or thirst. He felt the exact same as when he had entered. He knew better then to question his mother though.
"Now we begin your training."
