A Sun's Departure

Sun stood before his mother, Zuma circled him her golden locks bouncing with every step Those sea blue eyes almost peering into his soul and seeing every deed Sun had committed. She observed how Sun looked so much like his father from the white hair with the natural red tips and the extremely muscular body. Yet the thing she was truly observing was Sun’s connection to Man’a. Sun had entered the cave five days earlier on a pilgrimage to find Man’a and understand it.

At the end of his journey Sun had encountered what seemed to be his father even though he had passed away a few days earlier. Now he understood, his father had truly became one with Man’a and lived on in every living thing. Whether it be the flowing water or Sun himself. He woud always watch over the tribe even after death.

“Sun!” Zuma shouted breaking his line of thought. “It is time for you to understand Man’a truly. You will now be taught a element to control like every other chieftain that came before you. It is your choice to decide which one you shall learn but it be best to pick one that represents what you stand for most. Earth is the path of the patient, it represents those that are calm awaiting the perfect time to strike back at their enemies with extreme force. It is great for defense as well as offense yet it doesn’t excel at either. It will allow you to make the ground beneath you quake as well as make your enemies shake in fear at your sheer force.” Zuma explained to Sun as she came to a stop before him and rose her hands while stomping one foot which lifted three large stones free from the ground which then began to circle around her. “As you can see you can control all parts of the ground using it as shields or even as weapons.” Zuma said before she dropped her hands causing all three stones to fall back to the ground with solid thunks.

“Fire is the way of power! It will give you a strength which you’d never believe possible it feeds off your emotions making your flames more intense and powerful This is not for the feint of heart as people have been known to be absorbed by their passions and hate when using this element. It takes great control to use this element as one simple mistake can turn all you care about into ash. However if you treat it well it will become your best asset. This form lacks almost any type of sustainable defense yet easily makes up for it in offense allowing you to finish opponent quickly.” Ending the speech Zuma once again demonstartated the related element. One hand shooting forward a wave of flames flew at sun yet at the last second they fell short like a animal being held at bay. The heat ate at Sun making him sweat as he eyed the flames. Drawing the flames back to herself Zuma extinguished them somewhat proud with her demonstration from the smile that was sitting upon her lips.

“Water is the way of the graceful. This power is more about nobility then anything and excels at turning its defense into a offense. Feeding off your enemies mistakes and turning it into your advantage. This form like earth does require a source to draw from yet in the right environment you’ll become a force to be reckoned with. Using the ever moving water to your advantage and erasing your enemies permanently.” Reaching out with one hand Zuma summoned the water from the pit to herself as it began to circle her she moved her body in circles as though she were dancing the water moving with her then with the wave of a arm the water exploded towards Sun drenching him from head to toe in ice cold water. His hair now matted to his head and face while his body shivered.

“Was that necessary?!” Sun asked wiping some of the hair that clung to his face out of the way.

“I didn’t say you could speak yet!” Zuma chided which silenced Sun quickly. “Finally there’s air. The way of the peaceful and calm. The ones who’d rather settle things through negotiations. This form was never meant for offense excelling in defense and increasing one’s mobility. You can create solid shields of air and ride the air flying like the birds in the sky. Now you can use it offensively yet it will be quite dangerous and can be lethal to many in the general vicinity.” Zuma said ending her speech on the elements and this time to demonstrate air she simply spun her arms in slow circles and then she began to hover over the ground. “Now pick my son, which shall you choose?”

“I choose them all.” Sun said his yellow eyes brighter then ever his mouth open like a excited child.

“You can not do that. No chieftain has been gifted that type of power in decades. THe last one became a threat to the village as a whole when they became feral it taking over four shaman to kill him.”

“Mother we’re going to need all the power at our disposal if the human’s return. You saw the armor they had last time. They may have plenty more, we can’t risk not having the power to defeat them. We can’t let the Ki’wan tribe end here.” Zuma bit her bottom lip thinking about what her son was saying her eyes staring into nothingness.

“You’re right but if we’re to teach you all those it must be quickly. You won’t have time to master them like the other chieftains but you’ll be able to use them all. We must hurry. Let’s start with the simplest. Sit Sun.” Zuma commanded

Sun took up the meditation position he saw his mother always take as she sat opposite him her hands open between them. “Take my hands son. We shall awaken the flames that lay dormant in your heart first. This may hurt for the first bit but it will level out.” Zuma said as she closed her eyes. Sun did the same and as he did so he felt a probing force enter his body. It felt like a hot flame had been sent into his body as it roamed around worming its way into Sun’s core and becoming one with it. IT was like the birth of the universe as the heat then began to expand filling Sun’s whole body. Every pore feeling as though it was about to spout flames. His presence was somewhere else though as he felt the heat not only from the nearby lava but from every living being on the planet. They all had a heat deep in their bodies. Every volcano, being and star had its own heat and Sun could almost feel it till he was yanked back to his body.

Sun found himself screaming as the pain radiated through him. Even after Zuma broke the connection the heat still tortured him causing the Versi’Ra to curl inward as flames seemed to exit his mouth his body burning as though he’d been bathed in lava. “Control it Zuma! USe your emotions! Bend the flames to your will! Don’t let them control you, you control them!” Zuma offered not moving to help her son due to knowing he’d have to deal with the pain on his own and learn to control it because if he didn’t he would burn to a crisp.

Sun clawed at his stomach with his fingers till the point where he drew blood. The pain was so intense but he used it. He couldn’t give up yet, he had to protect his tribe no matter what. He used this passion to protect his people to rain in the heat forcing it back into his core. It was a hard fought battle but after what seemed like forever he had succeeded. The pain receded and Sun was finally able to push himself to his feet his body soaked as though he had been doused in water once again. “Are you sure you want to keep going? We can stick with just fire. You almost died.” Zuma warned her eyes filled with worry for her son.

“No. I’m not giving up yet, you think a bit of heat is going to stop me. Bring on the next challenge.”

“As you wish.” Zuma said shaking her head and motioning for Sun to follow her to the pool of water. She sat on the edge running her hands through it calmly like a mother would stroke their childs hair. “Unlocking water is simpler yet more dangerous. It will require you to get close to death. Are you ready?” Zuma asked looking at her son that fierce determination on his face similar to his fathers. She knew the answer before he even said it.

Tentacles formed from water exploded out grabbing Sun and pulling him into the pool of water. Sun tried to fight against it but the tentacles were to strong. His head got pulled beneath the water against his will. He tried to scream but water flowed into his mouth choking him. His hands waved as he tried to save himself to no avail. Slowly his vision became dark as he was pulled deeper into the pool. As he finally blanked out Sun awoke at the bottom of what appeared to be the ocean. Looking up he saw the moon all the way from the bottom. He felt how it effected the water how it decided how strong it would strike and how high the waves would be. The calm manor of which the ocean reacted was because of a outside force. When Sun realized this he blinked and found himself at his mothers feet completely soaked from head to toe. YEt when he looked back into the pool of water it didn’t look anywhere near deep enough to have drowned him. “How was this experience?” Zuma asked her son still in the same position her hand dipped into the water.

“At first it was violent and wild, but it then became calm and smooth.” Sun said rubbing his hand through his hair. Zuma did nothing but nod her head though.

“There are only two left, they’re not as dangerous they more or less require a more spiritual touch. So go on and take a meditative stance.” She instructed waving a hand absentmindedly at Sun

“Ok.” Sun said automatically taking the position knowing that the quicker he got everything done the sooner he would return to the tribe as a true Chieftain. He would be their hope and salvation like his father had been to them.

Instead of sitting with him Zuma simply gave instructions. “Now what I want you to do is close your eyes and feel your heartbeats and for each one you here count them and picture the number in your head.” Following the instructions Sun followed his dual heartbeats but by the time he reached Five it was as though he was submerged with this thick presence. He could tell it was Man’a as it flowed through him and as he opened his eyes he saw the visions it granted him. Of how animals fed on grass from the earth and how its materials were used to forge the technology people had become so dependent on. It enlightened Sun to the galaxy as a whole. Then in a second it was gone.

Sun could say nothing this time as his mouth hung open looking at nothing still in shock by the visions he had been shown. “YEs Earth usually does that to people whenever they first experience it. No matter how you look at it Earth is one of the most important elements. Finally we reach the last one. This focus on your breathing calm and cool. Focus on it and the importance air is to all living things".

Finally Sun had reached final hurdle and he couldn’t be more excited. Closing his eyes he began the breathing excercises the cool air escaping his lungs as he breathed outwards and as he focused on it he felt a sense of vertigo. Opening his eyes Sun found himself flying high over the clouds and looking down on the Ki’wan tribe. He could see everything from his position even how a volcano in the distance erupted the lava flying high into the air. It was the best feeling of his life as he saw the world for what it truly was. A gift.

“Sun Ki’wan I hereby declare you chieftain. Not only have you successfully come into contact with Man’a and unlocked a single element but have achieved the feat of unlocking all four. Good job son.” Zuma said pulling Sun into a hug. His body should’ve been exhausted yet he didn’t feel a single ounce of fatigue. “Your father would’ve been so proud to see this moment.”

“He probably is proud as we speak.” Sun said looking at the pedestal he had saw his father sitting upon earlier. Zuma released her son turning her back to him while she wiped away some tears.

“The next part will be combat.” Zuma said standing and walking a few steps away from Sun before turning and facing him. Using his tail to push himself to his feet Sun faced his mother. “Now to control fire in combat you must first reach down to your core summoning the flames of your heart and use them to control the flames. With every punch and kick you can expel flames if need be.”

Reaching down Sun summoned the intense heat using his passion to protect his people to control it. Then punching with one hand a small fireball shot at Zuma who promptly punch torwards the ground though her flames ricocheted off almost forming a snake as it completely smothered his flames. “Good now try again but this time try to prolong it.

Nodding his head Sun summoned the heat once again jumping high into the air bringing his leg down in a kick that let loose a solid slash of flames. Upon landing Sun quickly spun dealing two quick punches each shooting out fireballs and then shoving both hands forward he held onto the heat shooting a stream of flame at Zuma like a flamethrower.

Zuma showed no sign of worry as she simply punched once and her stream of flames completely nullified Sun’s fireballs and slash. Though when the two streams met they stood at a standstill. Zuma was much more powerful though as Sun began to tire and his flames weakened. Ending his stream Sun fell to his knees breathing wildly sweat appearing on his brow. “Is that all you have in you? Is that how far your passion reaches?” Zuma asked tilting her head to the side as she watched her son.

“Nooo!” Sun screamed as he spun kicking his legs out in a spin sending to waves of flames at Zuma before he flipped to his feet and spun sending a fireball in her direction. Zuma blocked the first wave by pushing one palm outwards a solid burst of air extinguishing the flames. The second wave she punched into causing it to split around her. As for the fireball all she had to do was reach out and grab it to extinguish it.

“That’s much better, One day you may even surpass your grandfather.” Zuma said looking down on her son as he kneeled before her trying to hold his composure. “Come on and stand back up we’re not done yet. It’s time for you to learn water.” She snapped no mercy in her voice. She knew this meant allot to Sun and wasn’t about to let him give up this deep in.

Getting to his feet this time took more effort then ever as he stood and almost collapsed again. Being a Versi’Ra he had a great amount of stamina and if this tired him so how would a human deal with it? Half stumbling to the pool of water Sun knelt down taking a drink from it.

Patting his back Zuma stood over him watching him drink. “Controlling water is no easy task either and will require quite a bit of you. Come.” Zuma said cutting Sun’s break short. She waited for him to stand before speaking again. “First I want you to do exactly as I do.” Zuma said as she began moving as though she were dancing her arms moving like a trees blowing in the wind her body moving in circles. Sun copied her them going through the same motions over and over for a few minutes till Zuma spoke again. “Now as your hand passes over the water reach out with the Man’a and summon it to you." They each picked up their own little orb of water that rolled freely up one arm and down the other as they went through the motions. Then Zuma began to speed up prompting Sun to do the same though this time she incorporated spins into the sequence which Sun copied each one moving around each other like dancing partners then at the end each pointed one hand out palm upwards releasing the orbs of water where they collided with each other.

Instead of tiring him the sequences had eased Sun’s pain and fatigue. “That wasn't nearly as impressive.” Sun said a slight dissapointed look on his face. He wouldn’t be able to apply that technique to much when it came to combat.

“Well we don’t have to much water on this planet so its always been the least useful. Lets move on to earth. This one we can use for a multitude of things. Earth is more rough and sudden then the others. The motions for this form will seem almost as though they’re over exaggerated. Now once again copy me.”

Both the Versi’Ra started the training with their left legs going back with their right one stomping forward with both hands pointing up into the sky. Then they drug the left foot forward kicking upwards then bringing it down in a stomp. While their hands made a cross. “Good now this time feel the earth as you do it and command it.”

They went through the motions once again but the moment Sun’s leg hit the ground it was almost as if he could see the vibrations going through the ground. As their legs came forward and stomped two short pillars of earth flew out the ground appearing before both of them. Sun added his own twist to it though as he punched the rock which sent it flying towards Zuma who promptly kicked her own making them collide. Zuma said nothing this time she just simply nodded her head.

“Finally we have air, this one will require moving your arms in circles most of the time for the intended purpose though you can use it the same way you use fire if need be but this time you must use the Man’a to control the wind.” Zuma said as she made a motion of her hands going in circles and before her appeared a solid shield of air that wasn’t visible but could be felt. She then pushed it forward where it collided with Sun’s chest lifting him off the ground and carrying him across the room where he landed. “Your turn.”

Flipping to his feet Sun did the same motion as his mother trying to control the wind but what he got was a shield yet it was highly deformed. He threw it at her but before it even reached its target it dispersed. Zuma raised a eyebrow at her son a slight smile on her lips as she watched him struggle. This time however Sun raised both arms and slashed them downwards causing two blades of air to go flying at Zuma. She simply turned sideways allowing both to pass her before she took her stance once again.

Sun wasn’t done yet though as he went into a frenzy spinging both arms wildly then shoving them forward sending a burst of air at Zuma. Which she blocked by crossing her arms and holding both arms out like claws. The last hit her making her slide back a few inches but other than that it was useless. Sun finally collapsed to the ground his body resting against the cold stone as he heard clapping. “You now know the basics of each element. When you awake tomorrow we shall begin the real training."

Just as Zuma had said when Sun awoke they hopped straight into training and did the same thing for what seemed like seven days. On the Eight hthey each stood across the room from each other their. “We’ve come a long way in a relatively short amount of time. I’ve been waiting for this.” Sun said.

“Yes we have, and now let’s see if this training was truly worth it.” Zuma said taking up the combat stance typical of using the air element. WHile Sun took the typical Ja-Dut stance. “Begin!” Zuma shouted.

The fight began with Sun starting off by flipping forward and landing slamming both fists into the ground summoning a waist high pillar of rock. Which he quickly lashed out both fists sending it flying at his mother. Zuma simply swung one arm downwards focusing the air into a slash that cut the pillar in half making it split around her. Yet she was caught by surprise by three smaller rocks flying at her. Spinning her arms she made a shield that the stones collided with.

Jumping into the air Sun flew at Zuma and landed channeling the air outwards with a burst that threw off her balance. As she stumbled Sun took his opportunity punching at her once then a second time two bursts of flames flying at her. Jumping off the ground Zuma spun dodging both fireballs and landed shoving her hand out with a solid burst of air hitting Sun in the chest and causing him to fly into the wall. Sun fell to the ground but caught himself with one hand lashing out with the other sending a fireball at Zuma. That was only the distraction as he flipped back to his feet and began moving in circular motions his body creating the moment needed where he took the water from the pool and shot it at Zuma a large stream flying at her. She countered with a wave of fire. They both collided causing steam to fill the room blinding them both.

Circling his hands Sun used the steam and began forming it into a ball of air in his hands waiting for it all to gather though what he saw surprised him. Which was Zuma moving as though she were controlling water yet lightning was crackling and then she shot it forward. Sun fired his ball of steam that exploded on contact with the lightning dispersing it. Yet the steam was gone as well. “Excellent, you’ve succeeded in learning all four elements.” Zuma said blowing some of her golden locks out of her eyes. “Your father would truly be proud of you.”

“I couldn’t have done it without you.” Sun said walking to his mother and hugging her which she returned. “Guess we return to the tribe now?”

“YEs. Let’s let them bask in the ambiance of their new chieftain.” Zuma said brushing the tears from her eyes.

The two walked away leaving the room they had spent so much time in behind. The cave was nothing like it had been when Sun had first entered. The paintings were no longer there and there was no color changing mist. As they exited the cave however what they saw made Sun’s knees go weak. Ahead came three more human dropships flying straight for the village. “We’re to late.” He mumbled as he saw them preparing to land near the abandoned one that had belonged to the messengers they had sent.

“No we’ve made it just in time. Let’s hurry and get back to the village so we can show your new strength.” Zuma said pulling her son’s arm and jumping off the edge of the cave. The two plunged through the air wind whipping past them as they fell then at the last second They evened out. Sun looked down to see the land whipping past quickly as him and Zuma flew through the air. She was the one doing it however all Sun did was stay still till they neared the village.

Zuma circled the village a few times drawing the attention of all the Ki’wan tribe members before her and Sun landed. Upon arriving they were flooded by the others who rushed them giving their greetings and voicing their concerns.

Sun silenced them all by simply raising his hand. “Men, women, children. My father died to protect us from the greedy and tyranical ways of the humans. We can not, no we will not give in now! We will fight them till the bitter end. Yet I will not force any of you to fight. Me and Kuma will be confronting the humans even if we’re alone. All this so you can continue to live your lives the way you want.” When Sun finished his speech numerous cheers exploded out of the onlookers as well of shouts of volunteering. The whole tribe had volunteered themselves, even the children. “Thank you all, but I can’t take you all. I want the fifteen best warriors geared up and ready to move out in thirty minutes.

The volunteers were ready in half the time each one wearing the typical armor of the Versi’Ra which was a plate that covered only the chest and greaves. The group set out to meet the humans knowing that most of them would die that day but they were fighting for something worth more then their lives. Sun knew that and so did all the other tribe members.

The warriors walked over a hill separating the village from the meeting point. Ahead stood at least two hundred humans each armed with their rifles. There were no powersuits like last time but they still posed a threat. Waving his hand Sun told the volunteers to wait while him and Zuma stepped forward to meet the humans.

“Aw so you;re the chieftain of this... Tribe.” The lead human said a look of disdain upon his face. “We see you turned down our first messenger. We hope that you’d please reconsider. We’d rather not have to kill you when you could be of use to us.” The human said extending his hand to Sun who reached out and instead grasped the man’s arm in his powerful grip and yanked the man torwards him.

Sun’s face was in the man’s as he growled out “our men killed my father and you shall never set foot onto our land again.”

“Unhand me you beasts! WHat do I pay you all for?! Help!” The man yelled to his soldiers. They raised their rifles at Sun, but Zuma shoved both hands upward summoning a wall of stone seperating them.

“Charge!” Sun yelled the volunteers roared in return running down the hill to engage the humans. Sun released the humans now broken arm letting him fall to the snow as he went to join the others in battle.

When the Versi’Ra collided with the human soldiers screams of terror could be heard. Sun joined the fray jumping high and landing in the midst of combat. He lashed a leg out catching a human in the throat with enough force that the sound of his spine breaking could be heard as his body fell to the ground in a heap. Another tried to raise their rifle at Sun but he stopped them Punching towards him a fireball forming and hitting the human in the face. The human began to scream as the flames spread engulfing his whole body. Sun reached out with the Man’a grabbing ahold of the flames and using them to spread it among more soldiers that were cluttered around the man. Flames covered numerous soldiers as they screamed trying to pat them out. Yet this cost many of them their lives as Sun ended them with open palmed strikes and kicks that were strong enough to break bones. Then turning as humans began to surround him Sun spun kicking out one leg that sent a wave of flames engulfing some of the humans legs and causing them to fall to the ground. Within five minutes the battle was over all the humans lay dead or dying while only five Versi’Ra had fell in combat. If the human’s hadn’t had blasters not even that many would’ve been lost.

Zuma hadn’t joined in the battle but had instead kept a eye on the leader. Brushing some blood off his face Sun approached the man and lifted him up by his shirt. “You go and tell your kind that if they ever set foot onto Ki’wan territory again it will mean war.” Sun growled. Releasing the man. As soon as he landed the human began to scurry away back to his dropship.

“What are you doing?! It’s because of them your father is dead and you’re just going to let them off? We should’ve went to war now!”

“War only breeds more violence and deaths which we don’t need!” Sun yelled at Zuma

“How do you know what we need?! If you won’t end it I will.” Zuma yelled turning to the dropship the human had boarded. Her body began the fluid motions but this time much faster but Sun knew what was coming.

“No!” He yelled tackling his mother to the ground throwing off her concentration and momentum her lightning flying wide and striking a different dropship.

Sun was kicked away by Zuma who’s eyes had turned to a bright yellow that rivaled his own. “Don’t cross me! I’ve planned this for years! I’ve waited and waited for my chance to end the humans that killed the members of my original tribe. Now I lost my lover to them and my son who sides with them!” Zuma yelled clutching her golden curls.

“No, I di-”

“Silence! I am sorry son, but if you are not with me you are against me!” Zuma said offering Sun a final ultimatum.

Sun couldn’t go along with it though he couldn’t allow innocents to be killed over a feud that had happened decades ago.

“Fine if this is how it must be.... Join your father!” Zuma yelled shoving a hand forward a huge wave of flame taller then a hill flew at Sun yet he saw the tears evident on her face. Leaning down Sun stomped on the ground summoning forth a small dome of stone that covered him protecting him from the flames. On the inside of the dome though it was like he was baking.

Then almost as if it were insignificant Zuma’s hand drilled straight through the dome grabbing Sun’s face and pushing him out the other side. Sun went tumbling a few feet but used the momentum to get back to his feet in time to send a wave of flames at Zuma. Who simply waved her hand extinguishing the flames. As she got closer Sun noticed the lava and he reached out harnessing the heat and rocks inside of it and threw them at Zuma. Caught by surprise the lava engulfed her left leg and arm,

Zuma pushed away though landing upon the ground in a heap. She looked up at her son as he approached tears rolling down his cheeks. He fell to his knees beside her as she reached up with one hand and touched his face her eyes still a bright yellow. "You are a traitor not only to me but to the Versi'Ra as a whole. You are no chieftain. You are a abomination. No true chieftain would wish for peace." Zuma scolded Sun before a smile touched her face. "Thank you for reuniting me with my family once again." Zuma said her eyes glazing over as she stared past Sun.

"I'm sorry mom." Sun cried as his mother died. Not even waiting Sun left running for the last human dropship boarding it and leaving the planet Barafka in self exile.
