A Suggestion For Fleeting/Ground Needs

John Ash

Only by Fire do we become Ash.
Alright, this thread is what I feel the faction should focus on for its fleeting and ground combat needs. This list is going to be based on the faction being minor, so try to keep in mind that what I am saying now will change if it ever goes major again. I will list everything I think we need along with some details about why.

First I shall go onto fleeting:
-Carriers: As a minor faction these ships will be doing the bulk of our work during fleeting engagements. These ships will provide us with ways to get our other, smaller ships into the battles as well as work as some heavy hitters. I remember correctly as minor we are limited on the maximum length we are allowed for ships, with only 3 of the maximum length able to be out during a battle that have a unique PC commanding each one. This means carriers will be the upper limits of what we are allowed, and there is no reason we can't exploit that.

-Fighters: Fighter ships are fast and mobile, which is what makes them perfect for escorting larger ships. They are also great for assaulting larger ships as they can flank them using their superior speed and mobility. These will also pair well with carriers since it will allow them to be brought to the fleet battles in larger numbers. We are also allowed a limitless number of them despite our minor status, so why not take advantage of that?

-Bombers: While slower than the fighters, bombers able to cripple larger ships quickly. They are destructive and a threat to any ship larger than they are, so they can let us handle larger fleets if used properly. They also pair well with fighters for escorts on their runs and are able to fit into carriers. They also share the limitless allowed numbers like the fighters, so its vital we get our hands on them.

Now for the ground forces:
-Dropships: Every faction needs to get their troops to the battle as well as a way to move them around the battlefield quickly. The dropship is within the length limit that minor factions are allowed for ships, so that poses no issue. They will remain important to our forces even if we go major, so there is no reason not to get them.

-Gunships: A gunship is a flying death machine when it comes to ground battles. It is hard to take them out without some form of anti-air on the enemy side, which tends to be overlooked. They can provide cover fire for friendly troops and death for the enemy quickly. Why we shouldn't use these is unknown to me.

I end my list here because it already gives us plenty of toys to work with. Another thing that is important to note is that the current items on this list also have plenty of utility in the other areas as well. Fighters and bombers can be used for runs during ground battles to cause a lot of damage that is difficult to stop. Gunships and dropships can operate in space as well as they do on the ground. We can use them to board enemy ships as well as cause some damage along the way.

If we can get these added to our rosters then we will be able to do plenty while we work our way from minor to major. These 5 items are versatile enough to do that while we grow and further our activity.

Not a bad list. Personally for ground troops we will have the new Drop Ships. I would rather in the early stages focus on personal equipment. Armor, Rifles/Slugthrowers, and Pistols.

We won't need gunships for ground combat until major when we do Dominions and Invasions.

I will look through the old GR stuff and see what can be modified.

Where we get the ships isn't so much the issue as that we get them. With us being minor again and needing to rebuild, now would be a perfect time to start grabbing up old equipment from all over the place. We could even make some deals with companies. Depending on how things go, there is a chance I could work a deal on Gray for providing some equipment via WESTAR. I could even have some custom gear lines created for the GR.

I dropped the personal equipment list in it's own thread. If you guys want to take a look at it.
