A Small Family Dinner

@[member="Riko Kahoshi"], @[member="Madeline Kahoshi"]

During his life, the one constant for Akio Kahoshi had been his dislike of his own family. He had loved his mother and his sister growing up, but for the most part he was the black sheep of the very criminal family. The most frustrating part was likely that even when he had the power to try and stop them, even having lived in the Kahoshi household since birth, he could never prove their involvement in the Reki. At least not in a way the law, and he, was satisfied by.

It was not all bad though, his family heritage and been enough of a boost to get him into the Imperial Academy at a young age. It was hard enough to get in, with an entire planet vying for a very limited number of spots. Once he had gotten in he had been able to prove himself on his own merits, and rose far higher than someone of his family name had ever been expected to rise.

Not all of his extended family was bad though. He had grown found of his cousin Riko, despite her mother and his... strained relationship. He had also recently discovered his missing cousin Madeline, who had more reasons to dislike and distrust the Kahoshi family than he. In fact she seemed to retain no contacts with their blood besides her somewhat forced association with him. He hoped to change that, because no one should be completely without family. And if anyone could help in that regard, he figured Riko could.

Dinner was set at his home on Atrisia, one of the rare occasions he was actually home instead of aboard the Rancor or at his office in Jar'kai. Now it was only a matter of waiting for the other two guests to arrive.

The invite sent by her cousin Akio took the young girl a bit by surprise. Since the two sides of the family didn't interact often, Riko and Akio had somehow managed to connect and see things through a different light. Her cousin was interesting and unlike her mother, he didn't demand her to focus on certain elements of her studies. He didn't demand anything at all, expect ask for her company. Riko liked that about Akio. She liked it a lot.

Prepped and pretty as Riko usually did, she made her way over to her cousin. It didn't take her long to get there and once she did, the door bell sounded itself off on both ends. Despite her better judgement to just wake in, find her cousin and hug him, the young lady waited with as much patience as she could muster. Patience that she had learned to have, despite her somewhat hyper nature.

Akio was overseeing the final preparations for dinner, his naval steward was an excellent cook on or off the ship. The admiral still felt the need to at least check up and see that everything had been set as requested. It was a routine the two had held for years now, and one that they likely would never fall out of. His steward simply enjoyed admonishing Akio too much afterward.

When the doorbell ran the house's caretaker let Riko in and showed her to the modest living room. Never one to collect more than could be fit in his quarters aboard ship, he had not felt the need to buy knick knacks and trinkets to clutter up his rarely used house. All it would do would be to give the caretaker more to clean. As she entered the room, Akio strode over and have the girl a tight hug. Akio loved his family dearly, which was why he was so disappointed in how most of them spent their lives. That made him treasure the few he did get along with all the more.

"It is good to see you cousin."

The prospect of dinner with Akio alone was enough to annoy her. There was no love for her family, any of her family at that. Loathing was an understatement. Even when it came to Akio, she was barely on speaking terms. Especially considering he plucked her from a job she much enjoyed and she was then thrown into the Atrisian military research and development division with little option. Given some of her rather dirty and dangerous side projects that she'd been working for years, there was little choice in the mattter. To be exposed for those would mean prison or worse and neither idea was something Maddie desired for in the least. This whole idea of a family dinner had her on edge from the start. Being in a house, for a few hours with a couple of people distantly related to her ... was not her idea of a fun evening. It was hell in a hand basket, delivered right to her doorstep.

With a sigh she finally had arrived at Akio's home, and the last thing she desired was to ring the door bell. Every fiber of her being screamed for her to run, run far and run fast. There was no possible way that this could be any bit pleasant, she just knew it. If only I could have my way ... Avoid all family for the rest of my life... Now that would be heaven. She thought to herself, sighing yet again. Finally she had gathered enough courage and pressed the bell, now waiting impatiently for someone to arrive to let her in.

After only a small moment the same caretaker opened the door for the young woman. With a polite bow of the head she followed behind him as she was led into the living room where the other two Kahoshi's stood. Frowning internally, she did put on her best outward smile, just to make things a little more pleasant for the others. Still, she couldn't help but to feel incredibly uncomfortable in the presence of two of her ... family. If they could be called that, after all despite the clear genetic trait they all shared, she knew little about them. And trusted them equally as much. Patiently as she could manage she waited for the two to acknowledge her.
