A Self-Lession in Battle Meditation (700 Words for Apprentice Level)

Togoria… Kelios had arrived upon the world for one reason. The Jedi Order, in his opinion, had failed. It was broken and fractured, he needed to think, he needed to rest away from war and do something about the condition of the Galaxy. So he had come to a world that had been decimated by the Sith which he once battled.

Kelios found himself in the village of New Jinoray. Its Chief had invited the Rogue Jedi into their midst and he was now approaching his third week with the tribe. He helped them farm and rebuild the lands that had been laid to waste by the firebombing that had scorched the world. Everyday Kelios kept to a tight schedule. He worked the job assigned to him by the Elder, he trained his martial skills after such and then spent the rest of the time in deep meditation.

------------

Kelios’ sat upon the dirt flooring of his modest shanty. His eyes were closed as he slowly monitored every aspect of his breathe. His whole intention was to slowly fall into a zen like state… A state which the holocron that sat beside him had mentioned. Kelios had to push each thought that entered in his head out slowly. Every second feeling as if it was an hour, and every minute as if it were a day.

Meditation was an important aspect of the life of a Jedi. It was a way to channel the Force into yourself, but Kelios sought to attain the skill to channel the Force outwards. He sought to become a beacon of hope for his allies, and at the same time to weaken the resolve his opponents without blunt fear. Kelios was seeking to discover a talent he was told lay within his soul. He sought to learn the time honored skill of Battle Meditation.

The large feline could the very essence of the Force slip into his mind. It finally had come to calm his thoughts… To the Horansi, it manifested as a cold water running through his very body. It seemed to pour through him, as if he was becoming a part of it. He could hear its soft melody within the recess of his mind. This was what was supposed to happen.

The next step, which he had been working upon for the last month, was to grasp the Force that now flowed into him and channel it outwards in waves, that would heal and enforce the minds of his allies. It was more complicated than it seemed, as one had to remain in their own state, they had to remain calm to keep the connection running.

Kelios gave a low, currenting rumble as lifted his head, focusing on the river of the Force that now traveled through him. It was as if he catching water in order to water a crop like any good farmer would. As the ‘water’ collected, he could feel the emotions of others around him. The villagers and their pain, their joy, their pride. Each emotion only made his job harder as he struggled to attain true serenity… Kelios let his rumble growl louder as if searching for a focus.
Without knowledge of such he had found his focus… It came to him the form of a pair of golden eyes that became pasted within his thoughtless mind. All the emotion was wrapped into them and therefore ignored. As his focus grew, his rumble became louder and louder, it was the physical manifestation of his new focus.

The second step had passed and now the third appeared. Kelios now had find the correct string, the exactly right way to soothe and strengthen those beside him. The Rogue Jedi pushed outwards with his calm and then slowly thought of victory. He imagined the the triumph of a soldier on a field of battle and focused on that. As if winding an old toy, he imagined himself wrapping the emotion as a string around a wooden base… Then he let the base spin, sending the string of triumph off in all directions; it was being carried by the winds of his tranquility. Slowly he could feel his confidence rise. He knew at that point that he had achieved Battle Meditation for the first time in his life… It was short lived, however, his elation broke his own trance and his eyes opened suddenly. He had done it! Now he just had to repeat it again and again whenever the need arose to perfect the skill and even when there was no need...
