He was at House Angellus for a rather short time. It was an easy, relaxed day, because it was the birthday of family members. Alyksandra, and the late Liram. It was a rare occurrence that a married couple shared the same birthday but here you are. Chrysa was there as well, along with Michael. It was a small affair, just family. It was a day that frankly was few and far between. Michael was just an 18 year old today, not someone with responsibilities, and Connel was not wearing any bit of his gear. Chrysa and Alyksandra? They could just be “moms” enjoying their families being together.
Family is important.
Alyksandra brought up how one of the Jedi… a Padawan who she knew of through one of her board members was celebrating the day as well. It brought a wry smile to Chrysa, as well as Alyksandra, who just nodded and told him to “go ahead”. Moreso Chrysa, she knew what he was thinking. Michael? He still felt uncomfortable being around there. So Connel let him stay without a lecture.
He took Buster with him though, it was meant to be fun.
He had something too.
He was not going to go there to interrupt anything, but Connel was travelling to continue a tradition. Something his father used to do. Buster was just there to enjoy the ride. This was a good day to be in the “Defender” and not “the Vector”, because he had an armory in the back. That was not to say that he would give a young one a weapon for their birthday, but something else.
When he got to the Temple, it was apparently just in time, as there was some type of commotion going on in the dorms. So, he quietly walked. The acknowledgements he received were interesting, as most had no idea who he was. Connel rarely came out in public, not in his gear, at least in a “Jedi” dynamic. This felt “interesting” in a good way. So when he reached the dorms and heard the frivolity, naturally there was some attention drawn and festivities drawn to a halt.
Don’t stop on my account.
A few “hellos” here and there, some, but many expected him to lecture. Wrong Jedi. It was when the poor birthday boy walked up to take responsibility, Connel held up a hand to stop him.
“Birthdays are strange things for Jedi. We don’t celebrate ourselves the way most do. No parades. No trophies. No grand speeches.
A Half-smile.
But that doesn’t mean today isn’t important. You were given life on this day. The Force wove you into the galaxy for a reason. Every lesson you struggle through, every bruise from training, every doubt you wrestle with… they’re all shaping you into the person you’re meant to become. Your montrals hear more than you realize. Your lekku carry more emotion than you think. Your heritage is strength. Your compassion is greater strength, and here’s something most Masters forget to say.
He’d lean in just a little.
I’m glad you were born… not because the Order needs another knight. Not because the galaxy needs another hero. But because the people you’ll help one day won’t even know how close they came to losing everything. Today isn’t about how powerful you’ll become. It’s about the fact that you’re here… that matters. If you ever doubt that… He held up a Pontite Crystal.
Just hold and meditate with this for a little while.
Standing straight, ruffle the top of the boy’s head if he’d tolerate it, and add with that dry, Vanagor glint:
Now go eat something celebratory before the cooks decide birthdays are a violation of Jedi austerity protocol.
