A New Disciple

[member="Vassara Raxis"]

Zavzen stood in one of the many cargo holds of his ship The Eternal Saviour. He had put forward an offer of teaching how to wield a sword and a captain of the Expeditionary Fleet, a group he had just joined had accepted. He had already set up the room, moving everything up against the walls, the only thing not against the side was a single sword. The sword was one his own, Reaper. He had decided to let Vassara use it, after all she didn't have a blade of her own.

He was wearing his usual open silk tunic (baring his chest), silk trousers, and sash with a sheath tied to it (only one, the other was on the floor). However his cloak was off and was folded up in his room, sitting next to his missing blaster and its holster, knife and lightsabers.

"HAELI," he suddenly said, going with a spontaneous idea, "record the session. I want to look over my teaching style afterwards." He knew she had heard him when the lights flickered slightly.

Vassara entered the room. This time she was sober and well rested. It had been a long week, celebrating the success at Kathlan, helping form the fleet via the Tatooine charter. She had accepted two new crewman into the fold and so far they had turned out to be just her kind of people. Spirits were high and the next expedition looming.

Still as a Jedi, Vassara always sought to better herself. And so here she was.

"Morning you." She said curtly, bowing in a gesture of respect. After all this was his ship and he was the Captain here.

"Thanks for bringing me on board!"

Vassara removed her coat, revealing a dirty white tanktop. Her long brown hair was tied into a braid behind her and she locked her piercing blue eyes on Zavzens.

"Now what did you have in mind for our training session?"

Zazven smirked slightly as he was bowed to. "No need to be formal with me." He chided, before dropping his smirk. "For out training I will be teaching you the basics. Most of wielding a sword comes from training your body to get it used to the basics and the movements." He gestured to the sword laying on the floor. "Please draw that and pass the sheath to me and we will begin. And please do be careful, that's one of mine and I don't want to go through another week of hell making another."

He waited for her to do as he had said before continuing. "First thing I want to do is find out how you would fight using just reaction and instinct. As such you will be duelling with this droid." Reaching out with the Force he pulled a droid across the room until it stopped in front of his student. "This is one of my early training droids. It's programmed to fight using Niman at a low level." He reached out and switched it on. "Begin in your own time."

Given the fact that Vassara was a total newbie to sword play she felt a flutter of nervous energy lance her frame. She knew nothing of niman. As a Jedi in secrecy, she had only just begun to manage meditation and basic application of the force. Still she supposed her knife fighting skills might be useful and drew the sword, passing the sheath to Zavzen as he asked.

And then....

She drew her Phrik fighting knife in her offhand. Just for peace of mind. As she squared off Vassara centred herself in the force, letting it fill her up. she checked her emotions, recalling the memories of days on Alderaan before the Sith.

"Ok what do I do? I know nothing of Niman!"

Most of the time when the going got tough, Vassara drew her shotgun and blasted trouble in the face!

"The idea behind this is that you will be reacting without thinking, letting me know what style suits you naturally. Do not think. Do not pause or plan. Just react." He explained before stepping back at the droid activated.

DROID POV

The droid jerked as it came on line before focussing on the organic being in front of it. It drew it's Brylark Wood Bokken before entering the Niman opening stance. The wooden sword, specially made by Zavzen to withstand his sword, went into the right hand. The right arm dropped low and the sword was angled down and backwards. The left arm also went down but hung at the side. The feet shifted until the right foot was forwards pointing at the organic and the left was touching it at the heel and was perpendicular to it. It settled back to wait for the organics move.

"Ah ok."

Vassara closed her eyes for just a second and opened them clearing the dryness out. Her hand moved quickly drawing the knife in close in a reverse grip. She raised her fists and waited for the droid to attack. She was wary, never being an aggressor, but preferring to counter strike. All her years of spacing had taught her a lot of valuable lessons.

One was, don’t jump the gun.

DROID POV

The droid waited for the time allotted to it during creation, waiting for the organic to attack. When it hadn't and the time ran out, the droid's programming kicked in and forced it to make the first move. Lunging forwards the droid brought his Bokken up and to the left, executing a diagonal slash. It then, immediately, execute a Shun manoeuvre with it's arm out wide, while moving sideways slightly so as to attack from the side and dodge any riposte.

ZAVZEN POV

The Zabrak nodded as Vassara showed restraint from attacking first, meaning he could cross off Djem So as a possible style.
