A New Chapter [Sigyn]

Sabine Galen took in a breath, it had been a few months since she'd been to Silver Rest. Her travels had taken her to Wild Space, to uncharted worlds. But, she had to admit that it was nice to be back. She'd almost forgotten about the calm that the temple brought, even outside in the courtyard. As her eyes traveled the trees and mountains in the distance, she could easily see why the Silver Jedi had thought to resettle here on Kashyyyk. It really was quite a beautiful world.

Milling about the courtyard, Sabine stood near a large potted shrub and made a show of looking at it.

Truth be told, she was not completely comfortable around crowds -- no matter how tranquil the temple was. She'd been raised at the side of a traveling Jedi, they went where they were needed... so it was an odd notion to actually have a home base now. During her time with the Order, she had made a couple of friends, but they seemed to be off on their own adventures today. With a small sigh, she turned her gaze towards the open space of the courtyard.

There were a few Jedi sitting about the edges, eyes closed in meditation. A few others were practicing sparring. And some seemed to be simply enjoying the warm weather and company of friends. Sabine furrowed her brow in thought. It wasn't that she was shy, but she was certainly a fair bit awkward.

And so, her boots took her a short distance... towards a bench. Sabine had a seat, hands on her knees, and she merely watched the activity happening around her.

These last few days had been exhilarating. It had started with Sigyn just wandering the mountains back on Midvinter, where she was found to be force sensitive by a jedi she had saved from a wild beast. The next day, the jedi had discussed Sigyn's force sensitivity with her, the leader of her village and her parents, and come to the conclussion that she was to travel to the Silver Jedi Order, where she was to be trained to become a jedi. And now, a couple days later, she found herself on their base on Kashyyyk.

The trip there had been exhausting, mostly because Sigyn had never been off Midvinter before. Most of the trip she had been sleeping or feeling sick, so she was glad they had arrived.But now she found herself to be very confused.

The jedi she had arrived With had been summoned as soon as they arrived, leaving Sigyn on her own at this New Place. Not knowing what to do, she decided to leave the hangar. The smell there made her think about the feeling she had when they were in Space. She left the hangar, but not knowing anything about this Place, she had no idea where she was going.

As she walked, she felt that some of the other People she passed looked weird at her. 'Could this be the normal behavior in the Galaxy?' she thought. The looks she recieved were mostly because of her spear, which she carried With her. She soon found herself at a courtyard. There were a few other People, which Sigyn presumed to be jedi, around doing different Things. Not knowing what to do, she leant against a wall, and began watching two of them, who seemed to be slightly younger than her, sparring. She probably looked very disoriented while she stood there, but she had no idea how to behave or what to do at this Place.

Sabine watched the activity idly, pushing out a soft breath. For a moment, she thought of her father. What was he doing right now? He was likely busy putting together research or preparing for the next Pathfinders trip. She was glad to see him alight with passion, able to put his love of archaeology to work here with the Silver Jedi. But, she had to admit that it was odd to share his attention with others. Sabine could imagine him perfectly in her mind, saying that this was for the best – that she needed to leave the shelter of his presence and explore on her own.

Turning slightly, her brows arched as she spotted a young woman on approach.

Very curious, Sabine couldn't help but muse, watching the other woman lean up against a nearby wall. She certainly didn't look like she was from around here, if Sabine had to guess. But, it seemed that the two of them seemed to share the same sense of 'not knowing what to do next.'

“Excuse me,” Sabine said, politely. “But... is that a spear?”

A quaint choice, perhaps, but it was a good conversation piece.

Sigyn hadn't been standing there for long before a woman came up to her. It made her nervous, that someone came up to her out of the blue, although the woman didn't look scary. She seemed to be a few years older than Sigyn, at the start of her twenties, but there was nothing threatening about her. And she didn't feel any alarm in this so called 'force' she apparantly was strong with.

"Um.. Yeah, it is," was her reply to the question. It sounded a bit weird to be asked about, but then again, she wasn't on Midvinter anymore, where everyone either had a spear or a sword. "It comes from Midvinter, my home-planet. Or earlier home-planet, at least." She looked away, not trying to hide the sadness in her voice. "It is one of the few Things I brought With me when I was taken here, to be trained. Apparantly, I can use the force." She looked back at the woman, giving a weak smile.

"You are a jedi, right?" The sadness had now changed to curiosity. "I don't really know much about what it means. This 'force' is very uncommon among my race, the Valkyri. At least we don't know much about it. I was the first from my village to be taken to the jedi for training, or so I was told." She took a shrt break. "This is the first time I'm away from Midvinter, and it's all very… overwhelming. Oh, sorry, I'm Sigyn. Sigyn Vanir." She held out her hand.

Sabine nodded, her eyes took in the spear – quite a sturdy construction. Her head canted to the side slightly upon learning the other girl's home-world, and hearing the way her tone changed. She sounded sad, homesick perhaps. Watching as her lips tugged into a faint smile, Sabine returned that smile with one that was warm.

“Midvinter?” She thought for a moment, “Quite a ways from there.” Sabine herself had never had that longing for home, her home was wherever her father was – but she thought she understood.

She offered a small nod. “Yes, I'm a Knight.” It was easy to see that the young woman, Sigyn, as she just introduced herself, was quite overwhelmed. “Sabine Galen, nice to meet you.” She said, taking Sigyn's hand in greeting.

“You've probably felt the presence of the force before, without even realizing it.” Sabine said, smile growing. “Everything is bound together by the force. We, the Jedi, can learn to harness this energy and use it.” Sabine thought this was the simplest explanation, it was difficult to put the force into words.

“It's all a lot to take in, I know.” She nodded. “But, having a master can help a lot. Did they assign one to you already?”

[member="Sigyn Vanir"]

This woman, who had introduced herself as Sabine Galen, was even friendlier when she spoke. And it seemed she understood the position Sigyn found herself in, to some extent. But it was a surprise that she knew of Midvinter. Sigyn had the impression that it wasn't the most well-known planet. Anyway, it made her happy.

"Well, if it is like I have been told, then I have felt it before," she started. "I have felt when there was danger nearby. And sometimes what was about to happen right before it did. But I didn't think much about it until the jedi found me, some days ago." Sigyn had mostly just thought it was a blessing by the gods, that they told her when something was Dangerous.

She nodded in reply to Sabine's nod. "Thanks for understanding." But what was this about being assigned to a master? She had heard nothing about it on the trip there, so she was completly clueless, but she didn't want to sound like it, so she tried to sound confident. "Um, no. I've not been assigned to a master yet. Before I could, uh, ask about it, the man who brought me here was summoned by someone." The attempt at sounding confident didn't og as well as she hoped. Her voice had been shakey, and she didn't know exactly what to say, and she was sure Sabine had heard.

Therefore, she found it best to just fix it and tell the truth. "Actually, I don't know what you mean by a 'master'. I've been told very little about the Whole jedi order. Can you explain what it means?"She blushed a little in embarrasment, but it was better to admit it sooner than later.

Days. Goodness, Sabine mused silently. No wonder the flame-haired girl, Sigyn, was so overwhelmed. She herself had been brought up with the idea of the force, from as far back as she could remember. That was the perk of having a Jedi Master as a father, she supposed. Still, she tried to put herself in Sigyn's shoes.

“A master is simply a Jedi of senior rank – usually knight level or master – that agrees to train you at their side. They are, simply put, a teacher and a guide.” Sabine said, trying to sound confident, but not arrogant. “Though there are different groups of Jedi in the galaxy, generally it's the same throughout – a Master and a Padawan.”

Sabine offered a smile.

“I know it's a lot to take in. The Silver Order is one of the largest Jedi organizations, I'm sure it'll be no problem for you to find a suitable master.” Sabine gave Sigyn a sure nod. “And, someday... maybe I'll find a padawan of my own.”

She blinked, brown eyes slightly wide as she looked at Sigyn. Sabine had been a Knight for about a year now, she'd begun to experience the galaxy without the steady presence of her father at her side. Perhaps it was time to branch out even further.

“Tell me,” She started, fixing Sigyn in a sidelong glance. “What do you want to learn most about the force?”

[member="Sigyn Vanir"]

A teacher. That made sense. And it would certainly help a lot. Training under someone would help both the student and teacher to become better. But what was this about different groups of jedi? Weren't there only one big organization? That is something Sigyn would have to ask later.

She smiled back at Sabine. "Yeah, I hope so. For both of us." She wasn't exactly sure what a 'padawan' was, but she guessed it had something to do With the student and teacher.

Then she stood for a moment, reflecting on what she had been told. She had recieved a lot of information the last few days, but it was only now that she really understood any of it. The jedi that had brought her here had been vague, or only used unfamiliar Words. The woman standing in front of her now was different. She understood.

"Um, what I want to learn most?" she stood dumbfounded for some Seconds. Firstly, she didn't know the extent of the force, what it really could be used for. Secondly, there were a lot of Things she could think of that she wanted to do. Track Down criminals by feeling where they were, learn to use the force in fighting, healing wounds, flight. There were too much, where most of it would probably be impossible even With the force. "I Guess I want to enhance my feeling of danger, because that is the only part of the force I'm used to. It's probably boring, but that's all I can think of now. Why do you ask?" There was both curiosity and uncertainty in her voice as she said this.

Sabine offered a warm smile. “That's a very important sense.” She nodded, thinking of her father. “There are even some that have developed the ability enough to glimpse the future – what danger is coming.” It was an ability she'd only witnessed a few times, and it was something she hadn't yet learned for herself.

I was just curious,” She answered Sigyn, glancing at the flame-haired girl. But, there was a small glimmer in Sabine's dark eyes. “Well... you see, maybe the two of us can learn together.”

She said the words with a tentative tone, lest she should be turned down on the spot. It was entirely possible that Sigyn would want – and perhaps need – a master with more experience. But, it was worth a shot. If they didn't work out as master and learner, perhaps they could still go out on missions together. There was a tingle of uncertainty on Sabine's part, too.

I mean, I won't be offended if you'd like someone that's actually master rank.” She offered a quick smile. “But – I've been a Knight for about a year now, some take padawan learners even sooner.”

And, there would certainly be ample support from the other Jedi at Silver Rest. That was the good thing about being part of such an organization, Sabine was learning this quickly.

[member="Sigyn Vanir"]

Sigyn stood there, blinking for a few seconds. Did she hear right? Was she offered to be a padawan by the woman standing in front of her, to be her apprentice? Or, padawan, as they called it. She had just arrived on this planet, and already been offered an apprenticeship. This was certainly a surprise.

It was overwhelming at first, but Sigyn cought herself back into reality after a short moment. With Clear excitment in her voice, she asked: "Are you offering me to be Your padawan? Of course!" The last part came out a bit like a squel.

"I don't care about you not being this 'master' rank. You know more than me, and I bet you will be a good teacher" Sabien seemed very Nice and friendly, and very easy to talk to. Sigyn valued those Things over what rank she was. Plus, she had been the only one to talk to Sigyn when she arrived at this temple.

But then something dawned on her. Why would sabine want a girl she just met as her padawan? They had understood each other when they talked, but it seemed weird to Sigyn nevertheless. Though it could just be her being paranoid after leaving Midvinter. She decided to ask anyway. "But why do you want me as Your padawan? I'm completly New here, and know nothing about the force." It couldn't hurt to ask, and she needed to know.

Sabine's smile widened considerably when Sigyn agreed to be her learner. In fact, her own heart gave a great leap within. She felt her face growing warm when Sigyn gave her some encouraging words, that she would be a good teacher. I hope so, Sabine thought silently. Her brows rose slightly when the flame-haired girl posed her a question.

“Why?” She echoed and gave another smile. “I have a good feeling about you. My father taught me that it's best not to ignore such things. Perhaps, it was the force that brought us together this day.”

The force did work in very mysterious ways, she'd learned that much. Sabine turned her glance back to the bustling temple before them, and the courtyard that seemed even busier than before.

“Temple life is something that I'm getting used to myself.” She nodded, “My father and I used to travel the galaxy together – he's my Master, too.” Sabine had quite a lot of respect for him, for he was not her birth parent, but he'd raised her just the same. “He works with the Pathfinders now, a group within the Order that focuses on exploration.”

Her brown eyes glanced back to the spear. “What's Midvinter like, exactly? Is it really as cold as people say it is?”

[member="Sigyn Vanir"]

A feeling. That made sense. Sigyn had often trusted her feelings herself, and they had more than once saved her from walking into danger. And maybe it was ad Sabine said, that the force had brought them together at this moment. If the force could do such a thing. It was still very odd to her.

She listened eagerly as Sabine told about her father. The Group, The Pathfinders, sounded intersting. She herself loved exploring back on Midvinter. And the name in itself sounded cool.

"Well, Midvinter is colder than here," was the start of her answer. Describing a planet when you have little to compare it to is hard. "but us Valkyri are used to it, and enjoy it far better then warm Places. It also Depends where on the planet you are, as it is colder in the Mountains, and to the North. I lived in Reykjaa, a town Close to the Mountains, and we had to use fur and wool clothes in the Winters." She took a small pause.

"But it is beautiful there, especially when seen from the top of the Mountains. Though I Guess everyone would say that about their home. Because of the wildelife there, we are often taught early to use weapons to defend ourselves. We often carry them With us wherever we go. That is why I brought this With me." She nudged the spear. "I've heard you jedi also bring weapons With you wherever you go. The... Lightning swords?" She had only heard the jedi that brought her here say the name of their weapon once, and she was falf asleep when he did.

Sabine listened with interest, evident by her wide brown eyes. Sigyn painted a nice picture of Midvinter with her words, and it took Sabine far away from Kashyyyk, where she could almost feel the cold against her skin. She noted the way that Sigyn spoke with such pride about her homeworld, it was nice. Sabine herself had no sentimental connections, she had no home to speak of like that.

“I should like to visit there one day,” She smiled.

Though she was not new to the life of a Jedi, she was still fairly new to the Silver Order itself. However, she knew that the former Grandmasters had a strong connection to Midvinter. There were paintings of the Heavenshields in their temple, a nod to the original founders. Her eyes flickered towards the spear again, and she nodded.

“Well, most of us carry some kind of weapon, mostly for protection. Though, I have heard of some that carry no weapons – and are skilled enough to still protect themselves and others.” Sabine unclipped a cylinder from her belt. “It's called a lightsaber,” She said, smiling. But, she had to admit that lightning sword seemed quite an apt name.

“This one used to belong to my father,” She spoke fondly. “He made it when he was just a boy.” True, the model was older than most, but it was just as effective. “It's powered by a crystal, mine was found in the crystal caves on Ilum – it's cold there, too.”

Stepping back, she nodded to Sigyn to show her that she meant no harm.

She illuminated her saber with the familiar snap-hiss that she'd grown so used to. A blade of icy blue came to life, and she moved it in a graceful flourish before extinguishing it.

“You can make one someday, too. If you'd like to, that is.”

[member="Sigyn Vanir"]

Sigyn looked in awe at the shining blade. It was beautiful to look at, and it somehow felt like it was emitting an aura of some kind. It looked elegant as Sabine moved it around, more so than any weapon she had seen be used on Midvinter.

"I probably will, someday," she said. "But for the moment, I will keep my spear. To remember my home, and what I was taught there." Her voice sounded a bit sad as she said it.

She looked at Sabine again. "Do we have to register the padawan-master deal somewhere, or is there no need?" She didn't want to sound impatient, but she didn't want to mess up on her first day With the jedi even less. "The way I was told about it, it sounded like you had to register it to be official, or something."

All the information she had been told had only made her confused, and she had forgotten half of it already. For a girl that only knew her homeplanet where the force was little known, and orders and systems like they used here was quite different, it was all very overwhelming.

Sabine gave a small nod, catching the deep sentiment attached to the weapon. She wanted to comfort the other girl, but she didn't want to make things awkward. After all, they'd only just met. Her brows arched when Sigyn posed her another question.

Oh,” Sabine canted her head to the side. “I don't think it's terribly formal, but we register with the Silver Assembly. At least, I think that's how it works... never done it before.” Her voice grew a bit faint towards the end as she glanced around.

Her eyes shifted towards the Silver Rest, the main hub of activity. Surely that's where the Assembly Chambers were, though she'd never gone looking for it before.

Let's go, we'll make it official – then we can get started.” She smiled. “One step at a time, right?”

With a small gesture towards the temple, she began to lead the way. Privately, she wondered if the Assembly would scrutinize her. Still, she tried to be calm and confident as they passed through the doors of the temple. The halls of the temple were quite tranquil, it had a definite aura and the presence of so many Jedi was comforting.

I've got to say, I quite like it here... I think you will like it, too,” Sabine said, pausing for a moment to look at a placard that displayed the temple layout. “Ah,” she pointed to the chambers. “Found it.”

As they walked, she was already thinking about the possibilities.

When we get started, we'll be doing meditation – A LOT of meditation.” She said, chuckling.

[member="Sigyn Vanir"]

Sigyn followed as Sabine led her to where they would register. She was glad that she wasn't the only one nervous or uncertain of things here. It made her feel more at ease. But she wondered how the training would unfold. The only form of training she had ever done was With her Family in the use of weapons. She expected the force training to be more complex.

"Meditation huh," she said. She had never done much of that before, and probably not like the jedi did it. It was mostly to calm herself before or after a hunt she had done it, and it had often ended in her falling asleep. "Is meditation important to being a jedi?"

She could feel the aura of the Place as they walked through the halls to the Chambers. The aura of many other force-users nearby. This was something she had never felt before, yet she knew what it was at once. It was a calming feeling, like she was supposed to be here. Like this was the Place she was meant to be, by the will of something Beyond herself.

They came to the Chamber where they would register themselves as master and padawan. Sigyn had began feeling nervous again, more than the calm feeling could make her ignore. She took a step back, holding her right arm With her left awkwardly. "So, um, how will this registering proceed? You said you had never done this before, but I Guess you know better than me how this Works."

“It's very important, it's one of the first thing's we'll practice.” She said, smiling. Sabine remembered her own start with meditation. As a young child, it had been so difficult to sit still and think of nothing. Even now, she felt it was tedious at times... but it was much easier to clear her mind now. “You could say that it is the backbone of force-use. Everything starts there, and it will help you draw from the force in the future.”

Sabine paused, looking over Sigyn she offered a tiny shrug. “I suppose we'll find out.”

Stepping into the chambers, she looked around. She spotted a tall blonde Jedi, a Master called [member="Aida Aquila"]. Sabine had never spoken to her before, she found the calm woman strangely intimidating. Nevertheless, she cleared her throat and spoke up. “Excuse me, Master Aquila?”

Aida turned, “Yes?”

“Erm, we would like to register as master and padawan, do we do so with the Assembly?”

The blonde Jedi offered a small nod. “Yes, in fact, I can help. Please, state your name and intent.”

“I, Sabine Galen, intend to take [member="Sigyn Vanir"] as my padawan learner.”

Aida gave the two a once-over, her bright blue eyes sparkled in that enigmatic way that seemed to suggest she knew something they did not. The Jedi Master was silent for a moment or two longer, no need to keep them waiting in suspense.

“I grant you these titles,” She nodded. “Please teach and learn, keep each other safe, and work on behalf of the Order.” Turning to Sigyn, Aida's blue eyes seemed to stare straight through her. “You have quite the warrior's spirit. Keen senses,” She closed her eyes for a moment. “Your instincts will never lead you astray, heed them."

Sigyn followed Sabine further into the chamber, to where another jedi stood. This one was apparantly a jedi master. She looked older, and more experienced than the jedi Sigyn had seen thus far. And it seemed she could help with the registering.

"Um, I'm Sigyn Vanir, by the way," she awkwarldy said after Sabine said she intended to take her as a padawan, in case it wasn't obvious. Which it of course was. Sigyn's face began to take the same color as her hair, and she turned it a bit away.

But she quickly turned back, when Master Aquila looked them over. It felt agonicing to wait for an answer, and being stared Down like this. But it finally came. Sigyn let out a sigh of relief, and nodded to master Aquila. She did not know if she was supposed to say something to this, or really how to react. So she just gave a small smile in response.

But master Aquila didn't stop staring at her. On the contrary, her staring intensified on Sigyn. It felt like her Whole brain, everything about her, even the parts she didn't fully know or understand, was being seen through. Some memories surfaced, of her back on Midvinter, in the Mountains. That was where she had felt, and inknowingly used, what she was told was the force. It had protected her from danger, told her where to and where not to go.

"Thank you, master," she said without thinking. "I will." Then she heard what she had said. There was nothing wrong With it, it was just very uncommon for her to talk to unknown People With authority.

When she and Sabine had moved a bit away, she decided to ask. "Um, Sabine? When we talked With master Aquila, it felt like she could see right through me, all I have experienced. Is that normal? And what did she mean when she said I have a warrior's spirit, and keen senses?" She stopped for a moment, to think if there was anything more she did not understand. "Oh, sorry, should I refer to you as 'master' now?
