A Fresh Start

In orbit of Coruscant a small freighter waited for clearance to land, on board in the quarters he had rented Vladimir stood trying to steady his stomach. The ride through hyperspace was as hard on him as always, but now that they were in orbit it would slowly settle. Steeling himself he gathered his duffle bag, stowing the last of his belongings before stepping out of his cabin and moved towards the center of the ship which supported a small lounge. A few other passengers were waiting in the lounge for an indication from the crew that they had reached their destination. The Hapan man could tell that the ship had begun it’s descent by the vibrations in the deck plates, he had spent a good deal of his adult life serving in the Hapan military and that often meant a great deal of time travelling from one planet to another. He had never gotten used to hyperspace and the toll it took on him so he welcomed the sensation of a ship entering an atmosphere it meant he could get his feet on solid ground again which was always preferable.

As the ship set down on the planet’s surface Vladimir moved to its landing ramp, he had come here to investigate the possibility of joining the Republic military. It had been just a few weeks since he had resigned his commission in the cluster and moved away from the oppressive women that represented the upper class back home. He wanted more than a man could achieve in the cluster and as he understood it the Republic was the place for those opportunities. As the ramp lowered he stepped off the ship, he made his way through the customs department and out to the streets seeking out the closest recruitment center.

Stepping into the recruitment center Vladimir looked at the other men and women waiting for their interviews. Most of them were quite a bit younger. He moved towards the nearest sign in and waited his turn patiently.

After a few hours of waiting Vladimir got his interview, he stepped into the room and presented his documents which raised a few red flags, his citizenship the primary issue. The man on the other side of the table asked for him to wait for a while as he stepped out, presumably speak to a superior. Leaning back in his chair he could do nothing but wait now.

Ayumi had been working with the other soldiers, they had been working hard on the equipment for the Republics operative and now as she stood on the roof using the gracvitational leveler to balance herself and keeping steady. The bracers clicked into place on her wrists while the small tingling of the energy coursing through to her gloves and the small diamond weights came out. Spinning as the wire went out to touch the floor. Then with the force she flicked her fingers to secure one wire around and then another until there was a trap below her and she walked to the skylight. going out of it as one of the droids rushed into the room and the sound of whirring and buzzing when she looked down where it had been sliced up.

Then her chrono chimed and the junior senator looked up while she crouched there closing the skylight. "This is Ayumi, there is a wire trap in room 56 be careful." She moved to another window and headed towards her office. There was an appointment and she had many other things to do while observing the reports fro Mayferria. They had been getting for testing and some experiments the Netheranium metal while was now sitting there on her desk when she entered and touched the arm of it. The high back swivel chair that brought her down into it and the shadows in the room played across her face. Obscuring her eyes that focused out the door to the one sitting and letting her jaw show.

"Enter please."

Stepping out of the small room which held the Hapan man the young officer who had just met with Vladimir moved with purpose seeking out his superior officer. The presence of this Hapan man was problematic, the ruling class of Hapes didn’t like their men running loose and supporting other governments, regardless of the political standing they had with those governments. It was a possible diplomatic incident just waiting to happen and it was well beyond his pay grade to make a decision like that. Stepping up into his SO’s office he presented the situation as he knew it.

A few minutes later the recruitment officer returned to sit with Vladimir keeping him busy reviewing his abilities and competences while his SO arranged a meeting with someone higher up the food chain. He could tell by the Hapan’s appearance that he had certainly experienced some front line combat and his resume certainly spoke for itself.

Meanwhile waiting outside Ayumi’s office the recruitment officers SO, Tel Arkanus glanced at his chrono, he didn’t know how long they could keep this Hapan man busy before he got suspicious something was up.

Upon invitation into the office Tel rose from his chair and stepped in, the lighting in the room unnerved him a bit. He took a seat across from the woman nervously speaking. “I believe we have a situation in my office, one of my agents has an individual looking to sign up for military service but his citizenship papers indicate he is Hapan. I checked there are no outstanding warrants for a man meeting his description so he is clear that way but as I understand it the Queen Mother doesn’t like Hapan men serving other governments without special dispensation.”

Back at the recruitment office Vladimir politely explained his qualifications to the recruitment officer, he knew something was up and found it likely his citizenship had thrown up a pretty big red flag so he expected this would take a while. He had been prepared for that possibility, he was ready to wait as long as was needed, if the Republic wanted his experience they would find a way to make this happen, if not he would move on to the next faction who may be more interested.

Ayumi looked at the man and remained seated as she listened to the problem. It wasn't often she had Hapens to deal with and the women weren't always a problem. The men on the other hand at least the only one she had met were docile at times and not worth the time it took. Now though she had a grin on her face and tapped a button on her datapad. "Then we will have to talk with the Hapen senator, luckily she should be on planet." Ayumi tapped the pad and spoke. "Senator @[member="Persephone Callas"] this is Ayumi Pallopides the head of the security council. I have a man who is looking to join the Republic's military division from Hapes."

The vision of a beautiful woman came to life upon Ayumi's datapad. She was exquisite, with a pale Hapan rose complexion, a rosebud mouth, and startling aquamarine eyes reminiscent of the cool seas of tropical oceans.

"Ayumi Pallopides," came her soft honeyed voice, a lace fan lightly waving air across her face as the noble woman bore her gaze upon the head of the Security Council.

"A man? Seeking to join the Republic Military?" came her question. "Who is it?" she asked, her expression and tone of voice betraying nothing of the Hapan.

Holding the Hapan man's information in his hand Tel listened to the conversation over the comm between the two women. He quietly waited as he read over the information about the applicant on the datapad he had brought with him. Upon hearing the request for more information he spoke up quickly, he wasn't familiar with Hapan culture so he had no concept of what was acceptable in a conversation with a Hapan woman.

"His name is Vladimir Kirov, former resident of Terephon, he apparently recently completed a tour with your military. As far as I know he is free and clear of any responsibilities to your government or citizens but I thought it best if it was checked into before we proceed." Tel glanced at the Ayumi for any kind of queue to continue with the information he had.

Meanwhile back at the recruitment center Vladimir was getting rather anxious, the recruitment officers had left him alone for now apparently there was nothing more they could gather from him at the moment. He had to do something so rather then sitting at the table he decided stretch his legs a bit, walking around the room a couple times, reading the recruitment literature displayed around the room, most of it targeting various branches of the Republic military to entice potential candidates into joining one branch of the military over another. He already knew where he belonged that had been decided long ago by the woman who had been his instructor back home at the military academy.
