A Common Station

SEV TOK

Kay's ship The Free Lady broke out of hyperspace near the planet of Sev Tok. It was just on the edge of the Commenor Systems Alliance territory, but that didn't make it any less important. In some ways it was a gateway and as such, it needed to be looked after properly, with it's citizens treated with the utmost respect.

Groundquakes plagued the planet, so when [member="John Ash"] had mentioned to her about creating a military station near the planet that wouldn't suffer from the quakes, Kay took towards getting it all arranged with the planet's authority. [member="Virak Ip"] was the recently appointed Senator for Sev Tok, and so he was the first for her to arrange a meeting with. She didn't want to step on anyone's toes, regardless of her position. It didn't matter to her that she was the Chancellor. Each planet was sovereign and needed to be respected as such.

Her pilot sent out the message to Sev Tok's port authority of her arrival, awaiting futher instruction of where they should be meeting, letting the Free Lady float in orbit. Kay was just finishing her tea and finishing up one of her holonovels. Short trips like this were her downtime.

On board with her was one of her bodyguards, [member="Farlon Orbit"] . She figured that just one bodyguard was enough, especially as she wasn't expecting trouble. But one never knows what could happen in this day and age. Trouble seemed to be attracted to her like a magnet. Hopefully today wouldn't be one of those days.

Farlon Orbit

Tough, Disciplined, Die-hard.
Orbit stood quietly outside the cabin of the queen, on duty until he was to escort her majesty to the appointed meeting with senator [member="Virak Ip"]. Dressed in the choker royal uniform, he tried all his best to keep his mind active while he stood there. Orbit was honored to be taken on so many 'solo' missions with the queen, but sometimes he wished there were other guards to share some of the grunt work. Not that he'd ever complain, it was far from his character to ever whine about such matters, but he was getting older, quick, he wasn't the young infantry grunt he was during the Clone Wars. Orbit's eyes followed one of the stewardess' aboard the Free Lady, besides [member="Lady Kay"] and himself, the only living beings aboard were the ship's crew. She was carrying a silver box, but Orbit couldn't distinguish anything further than that.

It wasn't long before she had left the hallway, and Orbit was alone again. Orbit's gaze returned to the bulkhead across the way, now his mind stuck on the stewardess. He had seen her before, as he had many of the other stewards and stewardesses, but he felt that he could recall her name. Alas, no matter how hard he tried, he could not remember, so he forgot the topic. Orbit sighed, being a guard wasn't the most exciting job in the galaxy.

Kay packed everything up, storing her items away in their compartments while she waited for [member="Virak Ip"] 's people to get back to her own. So far, the ship still felt as though it was in orbit. Maybe they had arrived too early?

She exited her quarters, datapad in hand. [member="Farlon Orbit"] was standing there, seemingly in his own world, deep in thought. Kay merely smiled at him, tapping his shoulder gently. "We should be arriving on Sev Tok shortly. Are you alright?" She was a bit concerned with him spacing out. "I know that following me around isn't the most thrilling of ventures, especially as I haven't gotten into as much trouble as I used to. Would you prefer a different job? Securing the Palace or the Senate Hall, maybe?"

Orbit was slightly startled by [member="Lady Kay"]'s approach, a mistake Orbit would swear on later. He turned to face the queen eye to eye, "Madam queen, if you don't mind me saying, at my age, after seeing all the things I've done, excitement is not what I'm looking for anymore. A soldier as veteran as I has different things in life to find, and they aren't on the battlefield, or in the grip of a fire fight. Besides, my job is a lot easier when you spend your time in the confines of a palace or a spaceship, rather than the clutches of an enemy." Orbit looked around for any crew members or handmaidens, just out of repetition, "I think we should head to the bay doors, best look presentable to the senator." Orbit gestured for Kay to lead, acknowledging her seniority.

Orbit wondered if the queen would continue the topic, and if she did, what would he say. But hey, that was a problem for future orbit, all he could do now was bide his time.

Bodyguards were curious people. They had the authority that no one else had; to tell a Head of State what to do. Most people wouldn't be able to do so. Yet maybe [member="Farlon Orbit"] had this affect on her, making her feel compelled to do as he asked just because he was older. Either way, she didn't mind.

Kay bowed her head and walked over to the bay doors. But of course she spoke along the way. "So are you seeking retirement then? Or just an easy post? I'd be afraid of getting restless. My husband has spoken about us retiring from public life. Yet we've both been exiled before, only to be found and serving a public life once again. I don't think that retirement is for everyone. But that's not saying that it's anything that you shouldn't pursue."
