A Common Predicament

In any government, there was always one or two positions that were difficult to fill. Some would even say that they were jinxed. For Commenor and the CSA, one of those positions dealt with the military. General Omar Santiago used to train Commenor's forces. He had done so for decades. Yet as the CSA came into being, he was moved to the position of Minister of Defence, leaving the training of forces to others. Of course his opinion on his replacements were very well known to Kay. One of these days she'll find someone that Santiago would approve of.

With the Contingency beaten back for now, an effort was being made on Kay's part to see that Commenor's forces were ready for any of the threats that may come about. She put out a call through the appropriate channels that Santiago had provided. Now it was the waiting game. Kay was half surprised that Santiago wasn't there himself to watch and question the applicants himself, but more than likely he'll do so later.

The message relayed was for applicants to go to one of the bases at the foothills of the Edritch Mountains. A meeting room was set up for her to use to interview the applicants. Whether or not they were aware that they'd be interviewed by the Queen remained to be seen. Yet Kay felt it to be important to have a say in who is a part of her staff. Whether they would be at eachother's throats with different opinions needed to be discovered sooner rather than later.

The Mandalorian shuttle descended upon the mountains heading towards its destination. Within Gilamar along with [member="Desmond Verd"] sat shoulder to shoulder within. Verd reached into his satchel and pulled out a lighter and lit the deathstick perched on his lips. He took a deep breath and sighed the smoke into the air.

"Do you really need to do that right in front of my face?" Verd chuckled before standing up just in time for the shuttle to make its landing in the foothills.

"This is my stop."

"Our stop. I need to speak to whoever they sent to meet us."

"I wonder why they chose this place."

"Who knows."

The pair both put their helmets over their heads and walked out to meet their soon to be employer.

Desmond's boots hit the ground first. The air was cool and there was a fog that hung over the top of the mountains around him. It had been a while since he had any sort of work. This would be good.

[member="Gilamar Skirata"] and [member="Desmond Verd"] were met by Caesar . There weren't many visitors that came to this base and these ones were expected. He eyed the two as he approached to meet them, his rifle's barrel pointed skyward.

"Basic protocol gentlemen, before you go inside. Weapons either disabled or removed. Take your pick."

It'd be silly for them to think that they'd be allowed to just walk in fully armed. Men like them were never defenceless anyways. But one couldn't blame them for certain precautions being taken.

Both men looked at one another and in unison said "Disabled" The armors they wore and the weapons they stored on their person were too numerous to stand outside and remove them. It would have taken so long as to become commical and so the pair decided that disabling their weapons systems and weapons would be the best option. Both men however needed to dispose of the many bladed weapons that weren't electronic such as knives, beskads and vibroweaponry.

Those went in a bin.

With weapons disabled they followed Caesar to the true meeting place.

Caesar waited until both [member="Gilamar Skirata"] and [member="Desmond Verd"] were finished. They were armed to the teeth, but that was to be expected and not entirely a bad thing. It was only bad if they were a threat. But Commenor had no enemies. Outside of a few small skirmishes by pirates and criminals, war had not come to their doorstep.

"This way." He led the pair into the base. Other soldiers were off to their own destinations within the base, however two were standing on sentry duties on either side of one of the doors. Ceasar opened it and gestured for the two to step in.

Kay was seen from the door, if they merely just stuck their heads in for a peek first. She still sat at the table, a tea cup in one hand while a datapad sat in front of her. She looked up from it to address them. "Afternoon gentlemen. Please take a seat." Her tone was calm and casual, well rehearsed as though this type of meeting was one that she handled daily. In some ways it felt as much.

"Good afternoon," Gil spoke first, his voice rather gruff but soft similar to a caring grandfather. "I understand you and yours are looking for someone to train your forces?" His armor felt slightly heavier with most of his systems disabled. Maybe it was the fact that the weapons and systems were all dead weight that tricked his mind into thinking so. Desmond walked in behind him and took a seat promptly causing Gil to realize that he was now the only one standing aside from Caesar, but unlike Desmond he waited to be addressed to sit rather than sit automatically.

Kay nodded as [member="Gilamar Skirata"] spoke. She liked his voice. It was calm and somewhat soothing, a far cry from what she had expected. [member="Desmond Verd"] had stepped in and sat down, whereas the other did not. Gilamar remained standing. Some people were not the type to sit during a meeting even though she had asked. Perhaps it was to do with his training, or perhaps she just didn't understand the military enough to know all of their protocols and procedures. More than likely that was the case.

She set down her tea cup and then folded her hands as she lay them on the desk in front of her. "Yes sir. War hasn't come to our borders in a very, very long time. The Commenori stay home to protect their home. Although that has it's advantages, the disadvantages are that our training has become...outdated to be able to defend our people from hostile forces. Tell me, what experiences do you have that could help fill this void?"

This was where Desmond stepped in. He stood up tall and proud as he spoke.

"Well M'am I can tell you I've served in countless battles for the Mandalorians. Military record is clean as a whistle and since this happened," he rapped on his knee twice, "I've been serving governments big and small all across the Galaxy training them best as I could. Mandalorian training gets even the weakest militaries more than a fighting chance against pirates and raiders, I'm sure a little Mandalorian discipline would do wonders for your people."

Kay's attention turned right to [member="Desmond Verd"] as he spoke up. Mandalorians? She should have guessed that, but sometimes assumptions were wrong. Both Clan Raxis and the Mandalorians shared a base in Chasin City. But whether or not that was still remembered remained to be seen. It had been a long time since members of her Clan or others had come by. More than likely it was because she was the most un-Mandalorian of all of them. She wasn't a fighter and didn't participate in their wars. She had her own people to protect.

Her gaze dropped to Desmond's knee as he rapped on it, causing her to raise an eyebrow. There was certainly a story there. More than likely she'll have to ask him about that later. Kay looked up to him as he finished. "You're probably right, sir. Although discipline isn't an issue. They follow their orders well. Some of the...strategy, I suppose you might say, is what they could use a refresher in. What sort of tactics are being used nowadays? What could be viewed as our weakest points? All of that kind of training would be valuable."
