A Collaberative Design

Solaire was oddly worried about today. He'd taken on a project with several other companies to design a missile launcher. Today was when they'd hammer out the main list of features and specifications for the it. His own company would be responsible for the creation of the test bed launcher. After all the design tweaks and testing he could begin manufacturing. That was a long ways off though. The others also had to develop the ammunition, optics and control mechanism, as well as the software to all this hardware. So what had the man worried was all these different people and companies had to come together, over a galactic distance and make everything in this project work with the other pieces. For something that was only going to be a bit bigger than a meter it was a very complicated matter. If everything was in house by just one company it would be easier. Macharius sighed as he entered a boardroom. It was going to be an exciting, stress filled day.

The other companies owners would be arriving within the hour. Mach had everything set up in the big room. The oval shaped table stretched nearly the length of the room, enough seats for three dozen people to sit and more in the back if they brought to many people. Data pads for everyone and some drawing tablets for the designers. A holoprojector was linked up to all these devices so everyone could see what they others were doing if necessary. A few smaller ones for the folks who'd have to holo-call in if they couldn't make it. And catering would be coming in a few hours to drop off lunch, though coffee was already available. Everything on his end was ready, all he needed was for everyone to cooperate together. Macharius sat down at the head of the table. Scrawling down on the drawing tablet some initial designs. Rough sketches were how everything started. Soon everyone would be here.

As soon as Galicus was handed the reigns of a project things geared into motion quickly, this was true for Warforged. Already designs for his nephew's project had been drawn out. Galicus knew little about the manufacturer and design of weapons but as everything in life he learned, here was one old dog who could and would learn new tricks. This meeting however was heralded by the Administratum Militarie, a board of military officers and decorated veterans of war that compromised the companies directory staff. From each branch of the One Sith military one was chosen to represent it's facets and ideologies. Soon they flooded the oval table and took seat to both sides of Galicus who made his usual flamboyant entrance flanked by his two masked body guards from the Bulwark.

"Good evening to all adjourned" the old muun said as he took his seats, off to his sides were the members of the Administratum Militarie who dressed in their aged uniforms and wore their dusty badges of honor whose significance was largely forgotten to time. "We are here to represent the interest of our company first and foremost Mr. Solarie but it is to our understanding that you have already laid the basic groundwork for the project our Lord commissioned."
The voice of retired Vice-Marshal Volmut boomed in the hall, his scarred face contrasting with his well kept uniform in a strange and menacing way.

"The project is of most importance to the infantry divisions our Lord has under his command, it is imperative that not only we make haste in it's creation but that it's performance and quality is impressive to him"

Atrisian General Akio Ashigatre, a high ranking officer and one of the last remaining Generals of the Atrisian Empire that remained with life after the fall of the old emperor spoke with a noticeable accent yet a powerful authority expected of his rank.

"We also expect it to be no hassle for cargo, the weapon might be sent with airdrops, as such durability and ease of handle is imperative"

The last to speak was the retired Admiral Avi Masha. A veteran of one too many battles under the banner of the OS and of the old Sith Empire, her decorated status is matched by none in the table, as she holds the prestige of being the only one to have fought under both the Sith Empire and the One Sith.

Galicus smiled pleasantly as he let the Administratum have their words. "Now that my colleagues have voiced their concerns and requests we can open the meeting for a more in depth discussion on the matter"

Galicus took hand of the coffee mug that was before him and took a small sip as he awaited more of his colleagues to join or for the host of the meeting to begin the elaboration of his project and plans.

Ultimatum had arrived only minutes ago. He could remember Animus asking about a launcher much like the one that they were working on now. He had found it most interesting to work on a design, finding the concept itself much more intriguing than the idea of what it would be used for or by who. He did not want to truly think about the attacks and deaths that these weapons would be used to cause.

He recognized the Muun as the esteemed [member="Galicus Sagious"], adopted uncle of Malgus, and probably also a man who had given the Sith Lord much good advice. Ultimatum had respect for the organic, even if he was just that, an organic. Ultimatum was seated at the table, looking from speaker to speaker. He had plugged in a connection to the datapad and drawing pad so that he could simply send information back and forth instead of having to physically draw or work text. He was already working on calculations and possible answers to the weapon.

Ultimatum looked back to the military personnel, "Do you believe that energy based, blaster based, or projectile based anti-armor would be preferable?"

Macharius stood up among the military personnel, designers and those with interests in the projects. The droid, Ultimatum posed a question but etiquette required those who asked first to be addresses. "I have indeed Mr. Sagious. A preliminary design of course. Allow me to show you all". Macharius began tapping away on his datapad, looking for the correct file to bring up on the display. In the mean time, he addressed the military officers worries and demands. "Officers I assure the weapons system will meet the rigorous expectations of field combat conditions. I don't build weapons out of glass when I know they'll be mistreated, dropped and who knows what by the common soldiery. Not to forget environmental abuses. I will be to my standards or higher. And may I say my military background will not allow me to supply soldiers with inadequate equipment".

The image was finally brought up by the old man. It was missing any firing sights but most everything else was there. Little messages detailed major components and some theoretical assumptions on its ability. "Here it is, and this will answer your question Ultimatum. The design here would use a projectile. I prefer it to energy or gas based. You don't get the punch vs shielded targets or there is to much weight for a shoulder mounted weapon this size without a stand. Which makes a mobile weapon redundant if it needs a stand. If you wish to counter my proposal though we are all here for that reason. But with the right ammunition I think it would be the best system".

"All Galactic republic tanks and armor from every respectable army are mounted with shield generators and energy protection defenses." The voice of the Vice-Marshal retorted to the gentlemen before him, his grim battle scarred visage piercing through the room. "if it cannot punch through them then we do nothing, we need a weapon a farmer can use to take out a tank without the need a specialized training session from commandos."

"As well as it not being too expensive for mass or minor manufacturing capabilities"
The old General interjected quickly, almost cutting off his colleague mid sentence. Galicus on his chair gazed intently at the design brought forward by the gentlemen from Stahl arms with curious intent. It indeed looked like a powerful weapon yet it could possibly use downsizing from it's big size in his view. Galicus remained silent for this portion of the meeting, he did not consider himself on par with the gentlebeings present in the subject of arms and weaponry and on top of all this he was currently working up a contract signing between Loom and Warforged that he sought to pass on to Ultimatum as soon as the meeting was adjourned. It concerned the acquiring of a special routine shipment of solar chastisers for use in Atrisia and other combat roles. It would be the first in a line of contracts Galicus had planned for the remainder of the standard year.
"This is why we have contacted you representatives of prominent technology creators, to bring a new variable into the battlefield that will shift the way we conduct war dramatically." Masha finished, her slight smirk forecasting her confidence in this meetings success and excellence.

The proceedings had just begun...

Ultimatum listened to the statements by all parties. He looked at the designs and came to the conclusion that more work was ahead. The concept was sound and the use of physical projectiles was a good idea in Ultimatum's mind. He had looked over many types of shields and had found that most could not stop something akin to a bullet or those types of projectiles. However, that did not negate the power that could be accomplished with energy based weapons. Ultimatum had always been partial to the use of light weapons, he had learned of the Orbital Solar Energy Transfer Sattelites and had seen that they could be used as effective weapons. That had been the birth of the Solar Chastiser, which had yet to be used as anything other than a solar collector to transfer large quantities of light towards panels built onto some of Mustafar's orbiting asteroids.

He did not believe that a solar weapon could be made in this case, this was a weapon that would require dependability, sunlight was not always accessible on the battlefield. At the same time, the idea of a plentiful source of weapons was perfect. After all, this weapon, as stated by the good Vice-Marshal, needed to be easily usable by something as common as a farmer. The mechanics of a weapon could easily be altered to allow easier and simpler use. The problem boiled down to two main issues. Fragility and ammunition. After all, a farmer could know how to use the weapon, but if it were broken he could not use it. Worse yet would be that he had nothing to fire from the weapon.

He decided to speak up, with a few clicks on his datapad he added more information to the projector, mostly related to another missile launcher system. One that was not going to be the finished project, not by a long shot, but it had something that they could use. "Pardon me, Mr. Solaire. The launcher that you all see before you is the readout of the ReCal Anti-Vehicular Solution. Perhaps some of you have heard of it? I would doubt so, it is the creation of an associate of mine. It has its flaws, as is seen in a few of the notes alongside, however there are a few features that I believe we could use for this weapon. Keeping in the concept of physical projectiles, I wish to put forward the concept of using starship-grade weapons in a infantry weapons. I would like to suggest perhaps the use of proton torpedoes in this weaponry system. Also, the use of a duel-phase propulsion system may be a good idea to integrate into this weapon. Now I would like to move away from this launcher and turn to older launchers that were used years ago. I assume that most of those present can remember the days of the recoilless rifles. Not as sophisticated as most weapon systems found today, they had a few things that went for them. The design was overall quite durable and, as the name suggests, removed a large portion of a rocket's recoil. This allowed one to fire with more accuracy. Perhaps this can be added to the design. That is all I have at this point."

Ultimatum bowed his head before moving the information back off the projector, however he left it in the system so that other participants could read over it on their datapads.
