ASHLAN JAMES SUNRIDER

System: Alashan
Ashlan James Sunrider was born in 32 BBY in the Alashan system of wild space.
He was raised in An underground network beneath the ruins of the former city, which was sealed shut and abandoned in events preceding order 66..
Ashlan had just turned 13 when Anakin Skywalker bowed knee to the emperor. Indeed, it was that day that changed history and the galaxy forever.
‘Ash’ to his parents, ‘James’, to everyone else, ‘Ashlan James’, was how he was raised. He didn’t know the name Sunrider until he was nine and even then, only in tales and legends. His parents, as far as he knew, were the James family.
Living in the underground network was challenging for Ashlan, a socialite at heart, though often reclusive. There were occasional skirmishes to the surface and some natives preferred to leave the planet entirely. One thing is for sure, the city was sealed and the Alashans had officially gone underground.
During the events of order 66, Ashlan found himself engrossed in the consequent cascades of military action - unable to understand the reason why war was breaking out, Ashlan began a relentless pursuit of investigation into the events of order 66, the characters involved, truly, he became obsessed.
Ashlan was transported off-planet in 19 BBY after an explosive device was detonated within feet of their private dwelling. Taken by his father via a network of escape tunnels to a ship on the far side of the planet. Ashlan was thrown several feet across his chambers by the blast.
Due to both injury and the traumatic nature of this event, Ashlan does not remember anything valuable about Alashanian culture, or how they are surviving beneath the surface. He grew up in a modest home and even for such circumstances, lived a sheltered existence prior to his departure. All we know for sure is existing records, stories and of course, legends.
His uncle would never speak of such things when asked and only told young Ashlan that this was both for his safety and the safety of his people in these troubling times.
Despite a traumatic departure which almost cost the boy his life, Ashlan was thrilled to be leaving the regions of wild space and heading for Naboo with his Uncle.
Little did he know the suppression of the empire had of course Marked Naboo as a planet that held rebel activity. With the new puppet Queen installed and multiple legions of storm troopers, star destroyers and dozens of walkers patrolling the surface. The raids on the Gungan colonies were famous for their brutality.
Nonetheless, a royal empire reduced to ruin with the seeds of rebellion embedded within its history was the perfect place for Ashlan to crystallize into a young adult.
He and his friends would tag graffiti on imperial walkers, destroy equipment and generally do their best to be a thorn in the side of the oppressors. However, punishments were swift and severe if caught and most people would ‘wash-out’, as Ashlan puts it, after a few skirmishes.
Indeed, these experiences, though heart wrenching at first, had caused an awakening within Ashlan during these formative years. He was learning about the force without knowing it, realizing his powers of force speech and even telepathy as well as his ability to consciously affect and manipulate the reality around him, even calling objects to his attention with the power of his mind.
Ashlan told very few people of his abilities after realizing that most people don’t understand or possess these abilities, and if they did, they certainly were not showing them). Nonetheless, he felt deeply this force could be used by all if people were aware of its obvious power in the natural order of things.
He researched thoroughly any archives available upon the Jedi for any clues or mistakes that could have led to the fall of an order which had stood for millennia - he vowed to learn from their mistakes - and, using his connections on Naboo, he scoured for any resistance that might be forming - or already out there, to combat the intolerable circumstances of tyrannical rule. By age eighteen, Ashlan had left Naboo in search of this quest.
