12 hours before the events of Prophet Motive

The doors to the conference opened wide as the Supreme Commander of the Imperial Confederation’s Armed Forces, Marlon Sularen, made his entrance. In front of him, a group of executives sat around a large rectangular conference table having patiently waited for his arrival. Today, the Supreme Commander was here to negotiate the final stages of his company’s takeover of the Bonadan Engineering Corporation, a local imperial-aligned company that had been neglected as of late due to the prolonged absence of its founder and Chief Executive Tiber Saal.

Tiber Saal had once served the Empire of the Lost before heading to Bonadan after its collapse where he built-up a small powerbase which included the BEC, whom he had taken control of after the death of his father, a major shareholder and influential executive within the company itself. However Tiber Saal had never joined forces with the Imperial Confederation despite having aligned himself with one of the four member factions of the Confederation vanishing from public view before the Confederation’s foundation.

This had left the BEC without proper leadership and management and as such the company suffered from neglect and inability to establish any proper footprint on the galactic market. The BEC would have eventually collapsed if it wasn’t for the timely intervention of Sularen who had taken an interest in the company after the passing of Necal Dobwaran, a powerful corporate oligarch from Bondadan, whose death had left a major power vacuum, one in which the Supreme Commander had sought to take advantage of in the name of the Imperial Confederation.

This would lead Sularen to this conference room, within the headquarters of the Bonadan Engineering Corporation, where the Supreme Commander was set to discuss the final terms of the agreement that would seal SularenCo’s purchase of the BEC and expansion to Bonadan itself.

Gentlemen, it’s a pleasure to meet you all today.” he began as he took his seat. “Now that we are all gathered we can finalize our agreement,” he continued. “To begin, I just want to thank you all for ensuring that this acquisition has gone as smoothly as possible. In good time, your company will be revitalized and will once more become a staple of Bonadan’s economy.” he added.

Of-course Supreme Commander, but there are some final caveats that we still need to discuss” one of the executives retorted. “Yes” another executive chimed in. “Like our autonomy and the extent of our authority over the company.” they added. “You will maintain a sufficient degree of autonomy within reason of-course. Strategic oversight will transition to SularenCo leaving the local decisions in your hands, provided they align with Imperial interests.” Sularen responded. "And if they don't meet your interests?" the first executive asked. "Then I'll simply alter the deal to your detriment."

And what about the Corporate Sector Trade Commission?” another executive added. “They maintain strict oversight over corporate acquisitions throughout the sector. Considering SularenCo isn’t based or already operates within the sector it could raise some suspicions.” he stated. “The CSTC doesn't care about morality, they care about the flow of credits. The moment they see how profitable this arrangement is for Bonadan, they’ll bless it faster than you can file the paperwork. SularenCo will provide the justification you’ll just need to provide the signature.” the Supreme Commander retorted once more.

Then one final executive spoke offering one final objection to the Supreme Commander. “There are various galactic governments, some of which are hostile to the Imperial Confederation, who have interests in this sector. What if they perceive this arrangement as a threat to their interests.” Sularen leaned back and pondered over that question for a second. “Most governments thrive on perception. If they retaliate, it will damage how the Corporate Sector views them as Corporations value free trade and open markets very highly. Any attempt to interfere with this acquisition by force outside legal means will compromise their relationship with the Corporate Sector and only cement our position.” he answered.

After Sularen gave his response the executives took some time to speak amongst themselves and think about the Supreme Commander's offer before eventually turning to face each other and nodding in unison. “Very well Supreme Commander.” the most senior executive said. “We’ll agree to your terms.” he stated. All Sularen offered was a smirk before handing them a bunch of paperwork to sign in order to confirm the acquisition along the lines of the terms they had agreed upon. “Good to hear. Welcome to SularenCo.” The Bonadan Engineering Corporation was his, and now the Imperial Confederation had sunk its claws within the Corporate Sector ready to further spread its influence over the realm of unrestricted corporations.
