Fellow citizens of the Southern Systems... of the Republic.
A buzzword that many politicians like to use is "change". I am sure that you have all heard it used ad'nauseum. Claims of how each election is "the most important in history", how "change is necessary" when in truth many just want to be elected for the pension and to pad their resumes. I am not one of those people, never have been. To the people of Atzerri, I am telling you nothing that you do not already know, but to the neighboring planets, systems, and the Republic as a whole, I am telling you this because it is the truth. Politics is public service, not a career.
Or at least that is the way it is supposed to be.
Make no mistake, this is not a hit piece on any of my colleagues. I simply do not have the motivations that many (maybe not all) of the others do. The people of Atzerri know that if I am telling something that it is the unvarnished truth, those of you not of my home can know the same too. The Assembly, the Senate, whatever you wish to identify it as, will always be the ruling body that holds weight in the Republic. Her Highness Queen Kalantha has done a marvelous job in her time, however it is the separation of powers that give us the strength.
You may be asking where I am going with this, I'll be happy to tell you!
Moving forward, should she be named to the Head of State? Sure. I'm going to vote for her. Does this give her my endorsement? No.
Hear me out.
Who am I? Yes, Senator Pehnataur of Atzerr, but what does my word mean for someone on Tatooine? Geonosis? Ropagi II? Diddly squat. I am just another guy, and that is my point. Now this is not to detract from Ms. Abrantes, or Mr. Veruna, or anyone, do not get me wrong, everyone who has announced their candidacy or given an endorsement have given you their truth. I am giving you mine.
Vote for the candidate who suits you best... the one you believe in...
Not necessarily the one you might be told to.
