From the writings of Brooke Waters, Farseeker of the Blue Coral Divers;
Sisters and Brothers;
I’m writing this to help collect thoughts and provide some information to the rest of you. In my travels around the galaxy I have seen a lot, and collected data. A lot of data. Some of it is downloadable from my chariot – yacht, and some of it is in yet unpublished chapters of the Book of Tides. That wonderful book does provide so much information, doesn’t it? And its good at self updating.
A little spell I found.
Today’s chapter is going to be about toxins and their sources. Some of them will have antidotes that I’ve found. But not always.
There will be locations on the maps that will pop up in the appendices. Along with some rough drawings from flimsi and charcoal. Please note, I’m not an artist. Well, not that kind.
First we’ll start with neurotoxins. These affect the way the body sends signals through to the muscles. Seems to even affect our spells. Not always our voices. So maybe there are ways to still cast spells while under the effects. I’ll give a rough description here.
Dathomiri Dartfish - A fish that is pretty populous in the warmer oceans of Dathomir. They’re highly poisonous and can send their quills flying. They grow back, slowly, so its not an always thing. However, it is a shock factor, like a squid and its ink. The fish is a beautiful pale scale, with mottled dots and stripes. The quills will stun you for a bit but you’ll recover, if you don’t drown.
Kattadan Jelly Urchin - This one is a bit of an odd ball. Bright blue, so I was looking at it like I would our blue corals. But its… its not coral? Its more akin to a jellyfish in most oceans. Step on it, though, and there are some membranes that break, like those little pearls in some drinks on the metropolitan worlds? Get one of those to break and your hole foot will go numb, or your leg. Stays that way for a few hours. ** To note, it does seem like a secretion from the Kattadan Sea Crab can reverse the effects quicker. And a rum did help.
Mon Cala Dart Cuttlefish - Did not like encountering these ones. The lights they produce, they are mesmerizing. Can’t believe I fell for it. They get their prey entranced and then they can launch a barb full of poisons. Worse than the Urchin, but seems to be a good defense, as it can stop a full Firaxan Shark. **Another creature, a version of a green turtle, has something in their skin that counters this
Finally, the two that I’m the most cautious about, and this entry will really only pop up for our Masters…
Wild Space Arrow Frog - I’ve come across these on several jungle worlds in Wild Space and the former Fringe Federation. Bright blue and yellow frogs with black markings. They’ll chirp, but if you’re hearing them it gets pretty late. They’ll fire a few ‘arrows’ of their venom, and it is great on small targets, it hits it, stops it from flying with the stickiness, and partially digests its prey.
And the Dathomiri Skate Poison. This one was a bit of a surprise. When they’re juvenile, the Dathomiri Skate will live in sands along the shores of the Wide Prairie and Wide Dunes. I saw this paralyze a Rancor, and drop a few Bantha sized creatures with one or two stabs. The barb is razor sharp and it appears that it needs to get INTO the bloodstream. I’ve not yet found a counter.
These are the ones from fauna. I’ve found a few flora that secret poisons. From their petals to prevent being eaten by larger prey. They’ll make beasts go numb, smaller ones paralyzed. If you’re savvy enough, you can find antidotes in trees and other flora nearby. One such example is a Yavin Poison Leaf, it’ll cause rashes and asphyxation. But if you go to the Redbark Tree and break open the seed pods? Basically an antihistamine is released.
I’ll work on publishing more soon for our Book.
I did send a few copies of this manuscript to our various settlements.
Use with caution,
Farseeker Token Waters.
