LIFE IN THE UNION

An unusual burst of holowaves permeates the galaxy at large. The signal, unknown, origins unclear.

A strong voice speaks. “Here on Dressel, we look at life in the Consensus.”

“Citizens on Dressel have responded well to integration. Every Dressellian is sheltered as mandated by the Public Development Bureau.”

The holocast shows a Dressellian man speaking with a PDB official holding a datapad. They appear cordial with one another. “All it takes is a conversation with our PDB officers. He does not have to toil for his home. It is always given, never taken.”

The feed cuts to a Dressellian family at a health clinic, having a conversation with a medical droid. Then it cuts to the same family at what appears to be a food market.

“Nor does he and his family go hungry or without medical care. Citizens of the Consensus have access to our many med clinics and food centers, which are carefully distributed across the planet.”

The broadcast changes to a depiction of Dressel slowly fading until it becomes a small dot among many. A cluster of star systems within the galaxy.

“If you are receiving this broadcast, then Integration awaits you. Your oppressors will be judged. Poverty, hunger, and misery will be eradicated. Your world will be safeguarded from exploitation.”

“Your life will be better in the Consensus.”

“So if you see our ships on the horizon, our boots on the ground, then know Integration has arrived. Do not fear us. Do not fight us. The Eternal Union is here for you.”

The metadata from the broadcast is even more unusual than the signal itself. Displaying an entirely incorrect date and time format, which errors out.
