"I know what I ask of you isn't something easy...the hardest things require the strongest of wills. I know you to be good, strong and true. I can trust no one else with this task, do you understand."
Cassian nodded, but he was essentially hollow inside. What was being asked of him, went against everything he believed and what he worked for. His sacrifices were not tossed to the whim, and he couldn't help but despise his father in that brief moment of asking. Yet that moment soon vanished as he knew what it meant and what it stood for. It would seek to give them the best chance, and give Sibylla all the support that she would need.
"I understand, I just....." Cassian let loose a small sigh, followed by a small chuckle. Something that was grounded in desperation, uncertainty and...…..pain.
"I wish there was another way...." He said plainly as he stood up and gave a small bow. "Father..." Cassian turned around began to walk away, yet he heard his name just as he pushed through the doors.
"Cassian.....thank you."
The General half turned back at the hearing of his name and thus heard the words that followed. He showed a small smile followed with a nod. "Father." He repeated once more before leaving the area. He needed some fresh air, and perhaps the cool weather outside would provide an ample opportunity for him to digest the notions and commandments that were to be done to him.
The cool air was just what he needed, providing him with a sudden relief that one wouldn't think that he needed. He looked over the courtyard, fountain at the center. Nicely trimmed flower bed that was on the outer portion. He took a breath as he moved down the marble steps and towards the fountain. Cassian's fingers tapped gently on the fountain structure as he stared at his reflection for the longest time. Almost as if he was studying his facial features, as if he had had never seen his reflection before.
What was duty, honor, commitment?
Cassian slowly walked around the fountain, his fingers lightly running along the fountain's edge.
There was much more to these things than he dared to admit. It seemed cut and dry to him, yet when family became involved. Things seemed to get more complicated, more than anticipated. He stopped and looked up towards the estate, he couldn't help but smile. He caught glimpse of Sibylla near one of the windows, she caught glimpse of him as he of her and they gave each other a wave and exchanged smiles. He watched her go out of view from the window as he turned back to look at his reflection in the water.
He reached up for the small metal insignia that was his rank and tossed it into the water.
Honor, duty, code, loyalty....
Family....
