GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Name: Lurix
  • Designation: Sentient [Unknown]
  • Origins: Pamarthe
  • Average Lifespan: 50 Years
  • Estimated Population:Rare
  • Description: Lurix were massive, semi-aquatic, ursine super predators native to Pamarthe. They had long bodies that were often disguised by their thick, water-proof coat, often giving them the appearance of hulking monsters. They had long, paddle-like tails and huge webbed paws that allowed the Lurix to swim deceptively fast. Their fur grew in long tufts and came in a variety of colors including white, grey, black, and brown. They all had yellow eyes with no visible pupils. Their eyes were protected in the water by a protective film.

  • Distinctions: Lurix were a massive ursine-canine species with thick, long, water-proof fure that was usually white in coloration with cream-colored stripes. They had large, square heads, bronze or yellow eyes, and black stone-like ridges that ran down the length of their spines. They were considered majestic and had a noble air about them. Their large paws were slightly webbed for swimming as they were partially aquatic and lived near lakes, rivers, and glacial lakes.
  • Races: N/A
  • Force Sensitivity: All
Strengths:
  • Powerful: They were the strongest and largest land predator on Pamarthe with a bite force that could sheer wings off of starfighters and claws that could shred durasteel.
  • Good Swimmers: They could swim relatively fast for their size and hold their breath for long periods of time. It was said they could swim in even the strongest of storms.
  • Force Hunting: They were able to hunt using the Force
Weaknesses:
  • Force Null: Force null fields such as from ysalimir cut off their ability to hunt using the Force.
  • Extreme Heat: While it won't kill them, extreme heat triggers their summer hibernation mode, making them sluggish and eventually putting them to sleep.
  • Can't Climb: Due to their size Lurix couldn't climb trees or up sheer cliffs very high.
  • No Force Powers: The Lurix has a deep and powerful connection to the Force as it relates to Pamarthe and the planet's well-being. It is not a force-sensitive being that can learn powers or abilities but it is affected adversely went the planet is in peril.
  • Summer Hibernation: The Lurix as a species hibernates during the Summer months
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore
  • Communication: Roars, grunts, barks, groans. Bear noises
  • Technology level: N/A
  • Religion/Beliefs: Lurix often showed up in Pamarthen folklore as a spiritual guide or adversary to many Pamarthen heroes. There were legends of the beasts able to be tamed or at least choosing to be partnered with Pamarthens of strong will and stories of the leaders of the Stormtalons riding them into battle against evil-doers but these have been unfounded. In recent times there has been at least one instance of a Force-sensitive Pamarthen who managed to make a connection to the beast. Even in the early days of colonization the beast was rare and considered legend but as hunters became bolder more and more trinkets and tools were seen in marketplaces with Lurix teeth or claws or stones somehow incorporated. Faux Lurix carpets are popular. They are a symbol of wisdom and bravery among the Pamarthens.
  • General behavior: Lurix are generally solitary animals and only pair up for breeding. The mother raises the cubs on their own. The Lurix typically stays near freshwater but does occasionally swim across the ocean between islands in an island chain. They hibernate during the summer months which on Pamarthe occur once every decade or so. They rarely make contact with humans.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Since ancient colonial times on Pamarthe, the Lurix has captured the imagination of the people of Pamarthe. They were at once adversary, teacher, and rival and have a complicated history with the hardy people. They are most often associated with imagery of ancient heroes from the ranks of the Stormtalens, ancient warriors of justice that defended Pamarthe from invaders or powerful pirate lords on the high seas. Though normally they are associated with their winged companions, the Stormtalon leaders were often depicted with Lurixes. They were hunted for their pelts, bones, stones, teeth, and claws. Some families still have authentic Lurix skins or claws but most Lurix-based furniture or decorations are fake.

Thousands of years before the planet was colonized, during the era of great Sith Empires and Jedi Lords, the Lurix partnered with the Jedi to defend their home. Before that they lived peacefully alongside Pamarthe's now extinct native people. Now they are content with devouring sheepo and living out their lives in peace. As of late however, sightings have increased causing some of the more superstitious old-timers to wonder if the increased presence of off-worlders and corporations has begun to throw off the balance of Pamarthe.
