What's that coming over the hill? (OS Dominion of Gratos)

Objective: Objective B – Investigate the Lost Lands

Melori had read the brief. Gratos – home of the Graug. The OS wanted to continue their momentum in the west and make a move for all that beautiful unclaimed territory that just needs a little law and order – Sith style.

The terrain of Gratos that survived the Jedi bombardment was mainly covered in a thick jungle swamp land that is much more green than that of most worlds of the same terrain type. The jungles run from the swamp lands and up beautiful mountain sides that host waterfalls and some of the larger cites that the Graug have built.

While most consider the planet a personification of dread, those lucky enough to travel to the planet and survive its harsh diseases have said that the Sorrowful mountain range is one of the most wondrous sights in the galaxy. Some of the jungles on the planet are so thick that the sun is blotted out.

Except Melori was planning to visit the site of Groxus, once a major religious city and believed to be the point in which the gods first created the Graug. It had suffered catastrophic bombardment at the hands of the Jedi and was now simply known as the Lost Lands. Hundreds of miles of glassed territory in the radius surrounding the former holy city.

A mixture of Republic bombardment and volcanic activity had turned this once lush region into hell on the surface. From her viewing port she could see it was covered in ash and magma with a highly toxic atmosphere of sulphur that can only be survived with the use of a full environment suit – that she and her companions were now wearing.

The reports suggested there were large fissures present that open up to underground military complexes that have been flooded by magma from subterranean volcanic eruptions. What was she hoping to achieve? It was possible she may find pieces of history dozens or even hundreds miles from the city borders; the effect of heavy orbital bombardment.

And maybe – if she had time – she might seek out the Graug themselves.

Objectives
Objective A – Salvaging. Find any exotic poisons, bioweapons, Ultrachrome, Durasteel, Songsteel
Objective B – Investigate the Lost Lands. See what remains of the once major religious city
Objective C – Seek out the Graug if they have re-established themselves on the planet and see if they wish to ally with the Sith once more
Objective D – Go on a wild-game hunt. See who can bag the most glycon skulls? Or maybe adopt one as a pet?
Objective E - Do your own thing. Sithy stylee...

Shaking his head, Jardo chuckled. His first look at Gratos was from behind a window ready to try and take the planet for the One Sith Empire. Yet, to think he'd gone from basically a Hutt Jobber to this. To be perfectly honest it was amazing, and the brief he'd read made it just a little better. He had the basic plan of walking in and looting stuff, but he really doubted it'd be that easy. Nothing was ever that easy.

The way this planet had been attacked over the years made it even better. The amount it had survived in it's days was amazing, it had survived bombings, volcano's and riots over it's time. Somehow it always came out better, if we ignore the lost lands. Actually it didn't really come out better at all.

Jardo chuckled lightly, twisting the Sith Hidden Blade on his wrist. He debated sliding his Assassin armor on, but he decided against it. Instead he was dressed in his black tunic with his black belt, black boots and brown and black glove. He looked like either a steampunk idiot or a Goth. The purple hair just added to that goth thing. Slowly he smiled, clipping his lightsaber to his belt and sliding his blaster into it's holster. Adding the new ammo clips to their sections and his rope dispenser in it's holder he nodded, swinging his cloak around him.

Now he was ready to fight.

Her heart still beat fast yet breathing had gotten a lot easier. She was aboard the ship, the Immortal ship. The Heart of Vahl owned by none other than the high priestess herself. It was a tremendous honour and a privilege. At least so the young acolyte told herself as she walked through it’s cold metal corridors. Everything in here seemed to remind her of the Temple, of home. It was as fitting of a ship as any for the High Priestess.

Careful not to linger she pushed ahead for the chamber in which The Chosen of Vahl was said to be. She carried news, bad news about the hounds and the fate that had fallen upon a few of them. While Sena wasn’t sure how many had been affected she still knew what she had seen as the others dragged her away from her test on Csilla.

The gates opened before her and Sena proceed to walk down the aisle.

“High Priestess,” Sena knelt as she spoke. “I bring news about the missing hounds from Csilla.”

" Conquest never ends." a soft whisper sounded in the silence. Data screens of information about Gratos flashed and scrolled about in front of the ships pilot Nulgath. The Epicanthix walked back and forth with his hands behind his back till finally he decided to take a seat and rest his hand on the faintest grin by his mouth. As the Sith would slowly begin their lunch into the planet he would do the opposite and wait. Nulgath was different from the others, He was no fool and actually possessed a mind of his own. He could not be controlled and never would be unless the occasion aligned with his plans.

And for now his plan was to wait in silence & meditate as the rest of the Sith did what they did best.

Darth Venefica arrived to Gratos not as a conqueror, but as a pursuer of scientific knowledge. The planet had been targeted by her due to the various reports that it hosted an assortment of highly toxic plants that needed to be studied and if possible, utilized in creating viruses or more potent poisons. While the galaxy was caught up in creating technology capable of destroying worlds and each other with a push of a button, she was seeking a more subtle approach to produce the same results. A virus capable of killing on a grand scale that required only one host to infect the masses, rather than an entire invasion fleet.
And of course there would be an antidote for the virus, which would naturally be in the hands of the Dark Lord himself. Just a simple threat to release the virus was enough fear to topple governments or keep those already under the banner of the Sith in line. Biological warfare was unappreciated and overlooked but she hoped to change all that; hopefully with this mission. Several plants on other planets had been rounded up, studied, cataloged, and now rested comfortably in hidden facilities under the watch of the Covenant of the Black Rose.
The discovery of the Black Orchid plant on Anaxes had proven to be deadly in it's own right, but she was looking to cross-breed it with other toxic plants and through alchemy, create a virus the galaxy hadn't been seen in over a thousand years.
Only time would tell if Gratos' flora would play a part in history or wither away into nothingness.

Thick clouds of incense smoke would swirl and dance with every step the acolyte took. The flaring glow of the overhead glow stones would thrum with the energy of the five Nihilsmoke stone pillars cast around the meditation chamber within the Heart of Vahl. The Eye of the Dark Lord's raven head would swivel, that thin alabaster neck turning to meet the vibrant gaze of the Child of Vahl striding towards her.

Around the Chosen of Vahl, the five Handmaidens would stand vigil, their stoic expressions unyielding. One would almost liken them to dusky skinned statues were it not for the subtle rise and fall of their chest for breath.

Slowly, argent orbs reminiscent of highly polished mirrors would narrow upon the Vahla. The Hounds of Vahl were a sect of transformed warriors utterly loyal to the Ember of Vahl and the the Chosen. Hounds of Vahl have been part of the Ember of Vahl since Darth Isolda's rise to power within the cult. Utilized in their early days to strike fear and wrest control of small holds away from non-believers they play a certain status role. While the six priests and priestesses of Vahl all have packs of their own, only the High Priest may take an Alpha Hound which oversees all other Hounds. There can also only be one Alpha Hound at a time. Chosen for their strength and devotion to Vahl, priests groom their chosen through trials of devotion and sometimes, manipulation.

That four had disappeared from her call was a troubling affair that would require investigation posthaste. Her void stare would seemingly pierce the young woman, an expectant aura resonating from her along with that pulse of power. The Eye of the Dark Lord was their bridge to the fount of power beheld by their Lord, given purpose by the Goddess for her glory. It would be felt in her sheer presence, no matter how dainty she appeared, the slither of those inky black tattoos under her skin would provoke a spine crawling sensation that suggested all was never what it seemed.

They had been wandering around the outskirts of the city for days, looking for anything that would give them a hint about the inhabitants of the city. They were alone in their search, looking for anything of value, be it artifacts to sell or anything that could be considered valuable to either of them. the walking was beginning to wear Kyten out, her prosthetic leg would squeak ever so slightly every so often when she walked. It was a constant reminder of her past, the failures of her training when she was younger. The sound of her self imposed exile, her inability to be the cripple and wallow in her failure for all of her days. She was an outcast of her own choosing, wandering the galaxy to find the secrets that her clan denied her when she became a liability.

"We have been walking the outskirts of the city for days now, I don't think we will find anything useful out here." She said, adjusting her small backpack. Her spear was in her right hand and she had been using it as a walking stick for the last few hours, hoping that the support would lessen the noise of her metallic leg. She was personally hoping for a text or scroll that she could use to her advantage, but anything of value would work for her. Her companion wasn't the most talkative person she had traveled with but she was at least a Dathomiri as well, so they had that in common, even if neither one talked about their past. She had a good feeling about this city, there was something in here worth finding, they just needed to know where to look.

Mentions: None, unless company arrives...

Having grown up on Corellia, Tes was far from adverse to the idea of nature. She had seen and experienced many types of terrain from what her now-destroyed homeworld used to offer, and she had come away with a particular appreciation for mountains. She was one to go ahead, arriving apart from and in advance of a number of the Sith amongst whom she had found a new home. The trek through the Lost Lands in a full environmental suit that she abhorred was one choked with the dank feeling of death, and it fed into this power of hers that had slowly been nurtured since that one boy she had nearly broken when she was no higher than her father's knee. They had thought to make her Jedi, but life, oh life, it had other plans.

With the encumbrance of the suit she couldn't move as otherwise would in situations like this, but the challenge was to adapt and find the most effective ways to move within its confines. The best and most fearsome of warriors, the best monsters could not be hampered by such things. [member="Darth Vornskr"] had his plans for her, and she would do her utmost by him. She had found her gait traversing the Lost Lands with gravity two times standard, and now would find further adaptations in the hiking and climbing of a mid-peak. So far, she had endured without complaint (though the endurance of gravity coming in at double to what she was fully adapted to was a mental game, to be certain) and would find how much further she could go before her body felt it might give.

She stared up as far as the atmosphere would let her see, then began her ascent with a hike on a moderate grade. The foot of the peak seemed forgiving, all things considered, but there would be no forming assumptions as to the rest of the climb.

Then the High Priestess spoke to her. A chill ran down the acolyte’s spine as the words echoed through the halls of her own mind. The tone of it, the coldness in the voice and the way it shook her entire being. Sena wasn’t ready, her mind told her she wasn’t worthy but the news had to be relayed. That was her duty.

“They’re dead.” She remained kneeling and staring to the ground. “Slain by one of our own as a few others dragged me away from a trial of skill.”

Sena had later come to find the name of this man to be Darth Valdra, a Sith Lord within their organization who had assumed Sena needed help. She couldn’t deny he had helped with the beasts of the planet but that had still been her test to undertake. It was a test that she alone had to undertake and the fact that the Hounds had dragged her away made things all the more obvious to her in retrospect.

“The man was Darth Valdra, he thought the hounds were a threat to him and he... Ended them.” Sena’s voice grew shaky from the overwhelming sense of her own unimportance. “Two of them. In fact, I have another who can support these claims. Her name is Maja Vern, she’s a Vahla like us.”

Maja knew it was coming. Her recent meeting with the young woman on that ice-planet was no coincidence and her subsequent visions meant she met her on Coruscant. They’d trekked to the Manarai mountains and visited the temple.

Given her nomadic lifestyle, she’d effected a rough facsimile of what she’d seen there as a sort of shrine on her ship. It made her feel more connected to her roots in some way.

But now she stared at the holoprojector. She expected to be called any moment now. At the time she’d sensed the young woman was to face the hounds alone – she’d held back on purpose. It was not her destiny to intervene, she knew that. But that man had – and the girl was royally karked off with him.

Of course know she understood why and had agreed to speak up, to explain the order of events. And…as she sat waiting to see if she’d be involved or not, she unexpectedly recalled so many new details. Her focus was typically on the future and the past was too readily ignored – but as she recalled the event on that Chiss planet, she was suddenly flooded with memories.

She’d been discovered as a Force User late in life – by a woman that chatted to her for what must have been a full day. That night, her latent abilities awakened she’d discovered she had a Life Bond to a sister she never knew existed before. And the following day she’d been whisked away to a luxurious apartment and been lavished with glistaweb dresses and an indecent expense account.

But in-between waking up that morning and Silara coming for her in the afternoon, she’d met a few of the Order of the Grey. One was rather rude to her, laughing at her clothes. He was Alexandra’s brother. He said he was a Jedi but had offered to teach her Dark-sided Abilities. Funny how she’d forgotten that until now. And his name…she pondered for a few seconds.

Hakora – that was it. Hakora Cinthra.

Perla had known that Kyten had left Dathomir at some point during her young life, but she wasn't sure why. Most Daughters of Allya stayed on their homeplanet until they were old Clan Mothers giving out wise wisdom to the younger tribe members. And since the fellow witch had a prosthetic leg which she could hear occasionally groaning in protest, she thought that may have something to do with it. If the Red Hills Clan was anything like the Great Canyon Clan, Perla knew that weakness was not tolerated. Overly dangerous magic strength wasn't either which is why the spellweaver had been exiled. But she would ask all of these questions to her companion in due time.

Perla led the way, cutting through any overgrown jungle brush with a large machete. Although muddy and treacherous, for the most part they followed a well-worn path. Finally after an hour of fruitless searching, the Dathomir exile turned to Kyten and said, not unkindly:

"I think you need to rest for a bit. Sit down on that fallen tree and I'll quickly scout the area." When it came to adversaries, foes and enemies, Perla showed no mercy or sympathy. But she had a soft spot for wounded creatures, and clearly this girl was struggling or just wasn't at her prime yet. She gazed upon the witch with the flowing chestnut hair with compassionate eyes. "We are in no rush," she added.

Then Perla dashed off into the jungle and was back only two minutes later.

"I found a traversable area through the swamp. We need to go off-road if we are going to yield the rewards of this planet that haven't been already picked over by thieves and raiders."

Moving in these suits was a pain. No wonder the Jedi chose to bomb the place rather than land and fight.

Her scanners showed no nearby sources of life, so she was less bothered at her slow pace – and was at least able to keep up with her troopers that seemed equally slow but more comfortable in their restrictive protective garments.

As she looked around, she wondered what she was doing here. On the face of it, it was a wilderness – and she could see at regular intervals great fissures. And then she remembered. These clefts led to underground military complexes. Now it was likely that the majority had been flooded by magma from subterranean volcanic eruptions. But one or two might remain intact?

So she changed her scanner to seek out any energy signatures. She zoned out the background noise posed by the volcanic activity and saw that approximately half a kilometre away there was a reading that suggested something had survived the attack. Even if it were empty and running on an emergency generator, it would be worth visiting.

She checked how far they were from the ship. Given the distance she decided to press on and ordered the craft to meet them there. Seeing it fly overhead and land so quickly, she rued the decision not to go back and take the easier option. But if nothing else this was a work-out and a chance to acclimatise to the suit. So she pressed on until she reached the edge of the chasm.

Below was enough of the original structure to make her hopeful there would be something to see. As she glanced down, ropes were lowered – clearly for them to climb to the roof below. So she turned and made her way slowly and carefully down the side of the fissure, eager to see what might be left inside the underground complex that was now open to the elements.

Maybe she’d even find a monster?

Without wasting precious time, the Sith Lady led her small entourage into the swamps while her droid rolled across more solid ground a few yards to her right. The group had no idea what they were looking for so every plant they came across would have a sample clipped and put into a small glass container, labeled with the colour and where it was discovered in terms of the swamp region it was discovered. It would be a long and daunting task but the rewards would be worth the effort.
One of the scientists pointed to a small island where an assortment of yellow and white plants were gathered. With a nod of her head, a member of the science team moved to the island and began taking a sample of the plant. As this was being done, another scientist spotted a purple plant further back from the island. Again the order was given and he too moved off to collect a sample of the plant.
When they returned, the group moved on. Two plants had been collected and it was still early in the expedition. Darth Venefica now believed that they would be quite successful in their endeavours.

The data screens flashed brightly as more information arrived in front of Nulgaths face. Opening his eyes slowly he squinted and began to read about the new arrivals that descended to the planet below. It seemed [member="Melori Raaf"] the appointed leader of this domination had just landed on Gratos. Nulgath knew the lady only by name, It was a good action to be seen down leading on Gratos. It would be easily seen and appreciated by the Sith in the future. With a smirk the Epicanthix rotated his chair to turn his attention to someone who was more infamous... [member="Darth Venefica"]. A Sith to be Respected? Eyeing the information about her reinforcements that came with her Nulgath found himself laughing on the inside as he examined the details that was her troopers. They were simple yet Veterans of war, loyal to the Sith Lady and some others who proved their worth. This much he assumed to be correct, His thoughts turned dark reasoning on why the Voice of the Dark Lord needed so many to accompany her but Nulgath in the end let it go.

Both of the Sith mentioned from the screens were out making a reputation or just adding to their already existant one while Nulgath himself stayed in the shadows. Unlike them he did not want to be seen in the public eye just yet. There was too much to be done and way too much to merely observe from others.

They reached the roof of the building that was once hidden under the surface. A cursory glance indicated no obvious entrances – well it was cut into the rock and so no exits were required.

So she set the troopers to work. They placed charges to blow a hole in the structure and constructed a three metre squared cube-shaped structure to go over the hole. The engineers in the squad were hard at work. The aim of the ugly but functional box was to allow access to the building below and keep the atmosphere out and the life-support produced air in.

Within thirty minutes it was ready and a small detonation later and a circle large enough to drop through was visible through the transparent cube.

Silently three troopers dropped down and Melori went next. No…scratch that…Darth Timoris went next – she needed to remember who she was. The complex was clearly running on some emergency power – but if that was by accident or design they had yet to understand. So she moved forward, glancing at the broadly familiar yet alien technology – clearly designed for beings bigger than the average human and glanced around.

Once all the troopers were in bar two that secured their exit, one plugged a sophisticated looking datapad into a port and started to download what she could. Schematics were easily found – but much was encrypted.

“Stay and see what you can get,” Darth Timoris said, and another trooper automatically stood by the slicer’s side as she was now engrossed in her task.

Darth Timoris looked at the remaining five. “You come with me – let’s see if there’s anyone home.”

Since the time of the New Order, the time of Darth Vulcanus, the Graug have become nothing but puppets. Sith, the Ession Reformation, remnants of the New Order itself. They were dishonored, an after thought when once they struck fear into the hearts of those they opposed. They were broken. When Krag was killed, they were scattered. When the New Order fell apart, they were slaughtered.
Their homeworld destroyed, their honor stained, what could they do but simply hide within the remnants? A single city held those still of free will, and this crumbling metropolis was exactly where Darth Ferus was going. Once he was second only to Vulcanus, being this emperor's apprentice and commander of the Graug Horde, and now as a Hand of the Dark Lord he had one simple goal.
To bring these Graug back under his thumb.
Towards the underground fortress he went, holding the duel bladed saber he once had as a Dark Enforcer. One blade, solid, the other a red saber. His armor was that of Ferus, black cloth with armored forearms. Golden eyes scanned about as there was no sign of life just yet. But he could feel them.
They were here.

Since their initial find, the expedition team hadn't come across any other plants. Several rotted trees and a few ruined bushes was all that they seem to be finding. Plus, the droid Little Fella had gotten stuck twice in muck and needed assistance to be freed. Then the overbearing warmth was starting to take a toll on the Sisterhood troops and the Nightshaders, some even resorted to removing patches of their body armour and leaving it in the swamp. Regardless of the tough situation they found themselves in, they still moved forward with high spirits.
Suddenly Little Fella began to beep and whistle, his metal chassis body dancing side to side, drawing the attention of the party. In unison, they all turned their heads in the direction the droid was looking and saw a field of red flowers and pink plants surrounding moss covered rock formations. The scientists wasted no time and rushed over to them.
Darth Venefica patted the top of her droids head then she moved to where the gathering was taken place. One of the scientists, a female Bith, looked up at the approaching Sith Lady, moving to show her what she found.
"These pink plants," she announced holding one up for Darth Venefica to see, "Bears some resemblance to the plants we found back on Felucia."
"So they are useless then," the Dagobah Sith replied.
"Not exactly. They share some similar characteristics but look here. See the black veins, those are something quite different to what we found on Felucia. It's to early to say, but we may found a new species of plant."

Melori leads the way now. They walk along corridors. Against the walls are stacked metal containers that spill their contents onto the filthy floor. Spare parts are simply dumped in greasy piles. The lights are only on half-power, leaving the corners in deep shadow.

Suddenly she faced two foes. Clearly thee was another way in here. And in the confines of the corridor, she is on her ow. Togorians – tall beings of great strength, covered in fur, worn long and matted. Their claws are fierce and sharp. When they hear Melori, they look up, previously engrossed in the contents of a container. They are clearly pirates or scavengers.

Melori does not see beings as others do. Under normal circumstances, she barely registers other living creatures, unless they are threats or obstacles. When she goes into battle they cease to be living beings at all. They become targets.

She charges them, her lightsaber activated. The targets freeze for an instant, but then they move fast. Roaring and spitting, they grab their weapons. The dull-witted cretins don't use strategy; they just rush at her like barbarians, one with a vibroblade, the other with a vibro-ax. The one with the ax is clumsy. The other favours his left side.

She sees all this as she leaps. At the crest of her arc, my lightsaber is high in the air – just below the height of the ceiling. She twists slightly to attack the first scavenger from his right side. When the lightsaber comes down on his shoulder, it has all the force of her body behind the blow. He goes down with a surprised grunt, his arm and vibro-blade clattering to the floor. She delivers another blow, piercing his chest, and he is still.

She moves aside as the second pirate wields his vibro-ax. She is as fluid as water and slips through his opening like a breeze. He grunts in frustration at his inability to touch her. This pirate is bigger than the first, taller than Melori. His fur gives off a rank, sour smell.
Then he surprises her. Instead of coming at Darth Timoris, he wheels around and runs. She can't have that. She can't have him alert anyone else to their presence.

Move in secret, when you can. The blow in the darkness is the killing blow.

She draws in the power of the Dark-side and focuses it toward the pirate. It sends him flying and he hits the wall with a dull thud.
He turns, staggering, and roars at her in rage. Then he charges. She is expecting this, of course. She waits for his momentum to make him clumsy as he begins his strike an instant too soon. It is easy for her to evade the blow. When he totters, she whips around, her lightsaber twirling, and neatly severs his hand from his wrist. His eyes widen in surprise as he gazes down at the empty place where his hand once was. Then he feels the pain.

The howl is earsplitting. One side of her lightsaber slices his neck. The other hits him as he crashes to his knees, then falls over, dead.
The targets have been eliminated, and she’s not even breathing hard.

Several of the plants had been collected at the request of the Sith Lady. When the last pink plant was carefully sealed tight in a glass container, she ordered a scientist to return it back the her shuttle. Also, to ensure the safety of the scientist she sent two Sisterhood Troopers and one Nightshader to accompany the scientist with orders to shoot and kill anyone that threatened the security of the plant specimens. If what the female botanist said was true, the discovery of the new plant with it's black veins could open up new doors to bioweapons; mainly a new virus at least.
While the group trounced through the forest, her mind was focused on the potential results of combing the Black Orchid plant to the new one. Which she was unsure if that would be possible, since the Black Orchid was like an apex predator of the flora world. Then another thought occurred to her as she continued her leisure stroll through the forest. The pink plant had no name. And pink plant just didn't sound sinister enough.
"mHaru Alainn," she whispered outloud. In her native Dagobah language, it translated to beautiful killer. Perhaps she was getting ahead of herself, but she had seen those black veins on another plant before. And that plant was a cold-blooded killer.

Objective A. Find exotic poison frogs.
Location: Swamps.

Enemies: Swampwater, bugs, cold.

Darth Ophidia had been a busy bee over the last months. She had shed blood for the sake of the One Sith and aided in the overtaking of several systems, but this time she was taking some Ophidia-time. As she had delved into the arts of the Assassins, she had also developed a keen interest in the art of poisoning. She had read a number of treatises on how to best acquire and utilize a number of potent poisons and venoms. When she heard the One Sith was going to Gratos to persuade them to join the fold, she grasped the chance to acquire the rare poison secreted by the sweat glands of a certain amphibian living in the light, but swampy areas of the world.

Ophidia had left her ship behind on dry land and employed a water-faring craft especially designed for swampland to manoeuvre through the dense mangroves and narrow river-paths. Her senses were on high alert as the pale-skinned humanoid paddled with minimal splashes through the overgrown water. She had left armour and most of her fancy equipment behind, and already she regretted parting with the visual and audio enhancements of her helmet. This was a test, to rely on her own skill and proficiency with the Force, rather than technology. She would have to survive the cold, the wet, and all the bugs the swamps of Gratos had to offer, and return with the prized poison frogs.[/SIZE]
