What Was Once Lost

Near the office of Minister of State of the Galactic Republic, Megàn sat on a seat and waited. This was one of her very first true diplomatic missions, the one she'd highly anticipated. Yet when the day came, she felt like there was no worse thing than having to meet such an important person of a dominant faction of the galaxy. Even though she was a relatively known person on her home planet Tholatin, she couldn't erase the feeling of reverence about meeting the Senator of Onderon.

The girl had been given the chance to become a representative of the planet and its people in the Republic's senate, but she'd turned it down. At that moment she just hadn't considered herself ready for that nor did she want to start handling galactic matters just yet.

But if the planet left Republic's control a few months later, she regretted her decision of not deciding to become a Senator. Maybe she could have prevented the world and its system from leaving the faction. Perhaps she could have made her name known in the Republic.

However, she had turned the opportunity down and now kind of regretted it.

Maybe that's why she'd so much waited for the chance to go on this trip to Onderon -- to get the feeling of having fixed the mistake. Maybe that's why she'd been given that task.

She sat on the bench and let her eyes go over her documents to use the time of waiting for something productive. Her mind was not completely focused so she couldn't handle serious problems, but she did manage to come up with some ideas she could present to the rest of the Foreign Affairs Committee later.

Before taking a look at the clock nearby, she took a deep breath. The meeting was supposed to begin soon, which only raised her anxiety levels.

The doors to the Minister of State's office slid open with a hiss and a delegation of elderly Twi'leks in lavish robes spilled forth, laughing and chattering happily as the disappeared down the high corridors of the Executive Building. After a few moments had passed and their laughter died away, the doors opened again and an elegant young woman with long golden tresses emerged this time.

She was the vision of beauty, confirming every rumor fluttering about the galaxy since the attempt on the Minister's life. This woman really was too pretty to be a politician. Her figure was slender and toned, her skin was the color of milk, and her eyes were a piercing blue. She was wrapped from head to foot in light silk the color of violets in bloom and on her breast, a bright purple jewel that twinkled when she moved, denoting her wealth and status.

"Minister Demici will see you now," the woman said with a bow before turning and leading the delegate into the Minister's office.

There was a small atrium just inside the doors where two additional young women stood... both tall, slender, and blonde. Both wore identical gowns as the first one, but the woman on the left was wearing indigo with a matching jewel on her breast and the woman on the right was wearing blue, a sapphire blazing on her bosom

Further down the hall they would pass two more young women flanking a short hallway attaching the atrium to the main office, both seemingly identical to the last two apart from their clothing. On the right side of the hallway, the woman wore yellow and matching yellow diamond. On the left side of the hallway, the woman wore green and an emerald.

Finally, as the entered the main office, the true Minister came into view, on either side of her stood the final two handmaidens and the differences became clear. The woman to the Minister's right was shorter and a bit more plump, but in the face her likeness was uncanny. She was dressed in a blazing orange gown and matching gem. Meanwhile, to the Minister's left, a much taller and more severe looking woman with bright red lips and a gown to match. She was clearly the eldest and the ruby that blazed on her chest made it clear that these were not mere ornaments, but were denotations of rank. This woman was in charge... well, sort of.

"Representative Alestria, I am honored by your presence," Cecily stood as the delegate approached (assuming she followed her escort, that is) and stepped around her desk to embrace the young woman.

She was really nothing like the handmaidens that stood guard. While all seven of them were undoubtedly beautiful, Cecily's face was softer, more kind. The wrinkles on her forehead told of countless debates in the lofty halls of the Senate when her eyebrows hat knitted together in frustration, but the sunburst lines that sprang from the corners of her eyes were reminiscent of times of genuine delight. Yet it was her eyes that were most striking to those who met her, for though they were the color of arctic ice, it was through her eyes that the skilled diplomat would convey the warmest regards.

"I welcome you to Onderon, and wish many blessings on the people of Tholatin," she said, grasping Megan firmly on the shoulders before stepped back behind her desk and gesturing to one of the plush chairs before her, "please be seated, make yourself comfortable... uh, and let me introduce my ladies-in-waiting.. or my bodyguards, rather, this is Felicity, Lady-Commander of my personal guard and Amily, second in command... and this is Melidy, she is the most junior." The Minister gestured first to the woman in red, then to the woman in orange, and finally to the woman in violet who had escorted Megan inside. Each, in turn, bowed respectfully.

"We will be just outside if you need us, Excellency," the woman in red said before bowing once more and leaving.
"Your Excellency,"
"Your Excellency,"

Cecily smiled at her guest as her body guards filed out of the room and waited for the doors to the office to be closed tightly before inhaling deeply.

"So, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit, Miss Alestria?"

Being in the very office of such an important figure was by so far the most exciting yet frightening thing Megàn had ever felt. She was nervous, one could definitely notice that if they knew the girl well. However, she gave her best at acting normal. While they'd walked towards the office, Megàn had put her folders and documents back into her handbag and tried to focus on what she was going to do. There was a lot of pressure on her -- both personal fears and the fact that this meeting might have very well decided the future of Tholatin.

"The honour is mine, Minister Demici," the girl spoke after the Minister of State herself had welcomed her, thinking using the title of Minister would be more suitable.

She had to admit, the office was a pretty place. And so were all the servants-bodyguards of the woman. They all looked amazing and the girl felt a slight discomfort at being near such beauty. But that was not why she was there.

So she took a seat on the chair the Senator had pointed at and looked forward to what the woman was going to say. While she introduced all the ladies around, she bowed shortly to all of them while still admiring their appearances. Where the heck could this woman have found every one of them?

And then the ladies left and the real discussion began.

"I am assuming you may remember Tholatin was once a member of this honourable faction of the Republic, before the horrific incident where billions of innocent souls went missing. Our planet left the faction due to the discomfort and civil struggles on our own planet," she started speaking, after which she took a deep breath.

"The government of Tholatin has decided it was a mistake to do so and would like to find a way to develop diplomatic relations with the faction once again, if not to propose joining the Republic once again."

She looked deep into the eyes of the Senator of Onderon. Maybe she could have been like her had she actually taken the chance to become a Senator?

"The head of Foreign Affairs Committee of our government sent me as a representative to find a solution and agree on terms of such a move."

Great, now she'd also stumbled on words. Why did she have to mess up so bad?

"Do call me Cecily, dear," she interjected almost immediately, detecting a hint of nervousness in her eyes and hoping that by abandoning the formality of the affair the young politician would feel more at ease in her company. She reminded Cecil so much of herself during her first few months on the political stage, but that of course meant the young woman had great potential.

As she spoke, Cecily afforded the young woman her full attention. She nodded thoughtfully when Megan mentioned Tholatin and their untimely departure from the Republic's sphere of influence. As Minister of State, she had worked tirelessly to expand the ranks of the Senate by embarking on several diplomatic missions. However, this was the first time that planet who'd left the Republic had approached her with the prospect of rejoining.

"I see," she said, steepling her fingers and considering the young woman for a moment, "well, Representative Al- eh- Megàn, all planets who believe in the ideals of the Republic... justice, peace, prosperity, liberty, and equality for all sentient beings, are welcome to petition the Galactic Senate for membership."

"That is, provided the planetary government ratifies our Charter," she added quickly. Cecily was not sure precisely what the goal of this meeting was yet, but it did not seem like Tholatin wanted to immediately jump back on board after so long apart from the Republic. After all, they'd be hitching their wagon to a warring state and turning the eye of the One Sith on themselves.

"Though, I am sure slower, more gradual transition back into the Republic is what your government had in mind yes?"
