W.E.M. Co.

Well-Known Member
Corporation Name: Wealth Enterprise Management Company (or W.E.M. Co.)
Headquarters: Wealth
Locations: Filth and its moon Wealth
Operations: Largely an Investment Company, but has a small hand in Wealth Gem mining with company owned factories nearby its HQ on the moon Wealth. It is the main governing body of the Corporate Bordello present on the world Filth, and acts as an umbrella company for a number of corporations under it's founder's political and criminal influence. Though not technically, W.E.M. Co. essentially owns a majority of the Gem trade via investments with successful companies that have a favor owed to self-proclaimed Governor of Filth, "Fatty King", who happens to be founder and Executive Officer of W.E.M. Co.. As said before, it has a small hand directly mining the gems, so it does actually sell the things from time to time, raw as well as jeweled.
Rationale: Fatty came to own this company as a direct result of Lord Voracitos' involvement with Filth, and expanding his crime gang to interesting locations such as Filth. In order to ensure Voracitos gained control over Filth, he knew he had to develop a means to gain a monopoly over the Wealth Gem trade. Knowing that the factory owner's already present on the moon wouldn't be open to any of Voracitos' rather cheap buying prices, he took an indirect route and decided he would invest in their profits and cover for them when the lost money. He made sure his company would be needed by sending in his thugs to do some damage, or do favors for the Crime Bosses that were undoubtedly controlling a number of the factories. This underhanded tactic worked fairly well, gaining favors and making what he offered a necessity for the factories to stay in business. He did this by using influence already present within a prominent Crime Lord Wilson King (who would later claim to be his son post-Voracitos' death, and adopt the pseudonym "Fatty King"), and eventually built a bridge between Filth and it's moon. However, soon after accomplishing this goal Voracitos found other interests, and so his right hand man Wilson King inherited the planetary criminal corporate empire. King maintained this influence, even after Voracitos' gang fell into anarchy and abandoning Filth altogether.
Tier: Tier Two

Description: W.E.M. Co. is not an overly impressive corporation in the slightest meaning of the word, and is in most all cases rather mediocre. At its core it is an investment company, that spends money on other companies that fail so they can reap a part of their rewards when they succeed. However, due to the nature of the world its headquarters is on, it has a very heavy criminal influence, and was created under the pretense that certain companies were "obligated" to pay the company least "troubled times" come upon them. So it had a hand as a corrupt protection agency for financial investment and insurance, but somewhere along the line it got paranoid that its criminal exploits might backfire so it bought out a few factories in the Wealth Gem mining industry, just in case.

This way, now not completely dependant on scamming other companies with the threat of gang violence or throw blackmail, the company is also capable of legitimately selling products made by their own factories. If either one should start to fail, they can pick each other back up. For instance, a coalition of Gem Mining Factories they had invested in and ensured on along with their "protection" suddenly decide to stop playing W.E.M. Co.'s games and withholds money. The gang goes out to beat the factory into submission, and in the mean time their own Gem Production keeps them afloat regardless of any one outside company withholding what's due to them. Vice versa is also true, in that if something goes wrong in their own factory production, revenue from countless other factories not directly under their control make up for it.

The most common items crafted by W.E.M. Co. and indeed many other companies not under direct control of W.E.M. Co. are jewelry pieces containing a glowing Wealth Gem. Due to the nature of the crystal, it only glows when continuously heated, but begins to disintegrate when removed from that rather intense heat. As such the crafting of the jewelry is rather complicated, especially as strong magnetic fields shatter the gem. These exotic jewel artifacts though are highly desirable for their shockingly bright luminescence at even small sizes. As such, most artifacts of jewelry containing Wealth Gems actual contain very little in terms of the gem itself. This makes the issue of heating it easier, and makes it less likely to be noticed if it cracks slightly in the presence of a particularly powerful magnetic field.

This is just the most common item entries this company could possibly make though, at least, the most common manufactured item. The most common sale for any gem mine is almost exclusively the raw crystal, and very few factories actually venture into attempting to replicate the jewel making process that W.E.M. Co. and very few other companies hold a death grip on. So it may be a little confusing, but it fulfills all of the desires of the moon/planet's most notorious gangster, Fatty King.

It has little to no affiliation other than to the things it invests in, or those it fulfills private orders to. One of the least noteworthy features of the company... is that it doesn't care about anything other than what's best for it's revenue. If it's advantageous to care about the environment, it does, but if it doesn't prove to be they will grind it to the point where it is no longer useful to them. One of the largest reasonings behind this behavior besides the fact that they just don't care, is that life on Filth and its moon is borrowed time anyway, in that between next few hundreds or thousands of years Filth and it's moon will have already fallen into the core of one of five dead or failed stars.
