Description: Velok's so-called 'freeze ray' is a CryoBan rifle suited for big Whiphid hands and fingers. Like other CryoBan rifles, it fires a glowing blue chemical ray which rapidly cools the target. Several successive direct hits could potentially freeze a target (or its limb) solid. The chemical projectile tends to pile up on the target in an ice-like layer which may cover part or all of a target. Within less than a minute, of course, the CryoBan releases its trapped energy, heat is restored, the 'ice' crumbles away, and the target is left much as before.

Minus the damage of having been frozen for a while. This damage can be cellular, for example. CryoBan weapons are also noted as being very good against heavily armored targets, even tanks, presumably because aggressive cooling can burst pipes, make flexible components brittle, etc.

In your average one-on-one duel, Velok's freeze ray generally does little actual permanent damage. Its purpose is to stun and impede and otherwise mess with people (or useful alchemical critters) while Velok lines up a finishing move of some kind.
