Material: Alchemized durasteel casing, Force-attuned Pontite crystals, bronzium finish.

Description: Originally called Aoelocrons for their method of function, Velokrons are small holocron-like objects that carry a single-use charge of a specifically attuned Area-Of-Effect Force power within their crystal core. They were renamed to Velokrons in honor of the late Master Blackguard Velok whose propensity for the proliferation of Force Powers was as legendary as it was dangerous. The basis for crafting Velokrons is, fundamentally, a mirror of Holocron crafting in that it uses the same materials and crafting methods. The metal casing is alchemized to protect the crystal core from damage, as well to carry the inscribed Jal-Shey imbuement. The crystals are cut to shape (varying from pyramid to cube depending on the tier of the ‘kron in question), cleansed of flaws, further refined through carving/engraving, alchemized, and then attuned to their specified power through the process of its first charge. The casing itself bears an inscription upon its base that is unique to every crafted item, this inscription is the release-word that engages the charged Velokron to release the power contained within. All Velokrons are crafted for a radial release, though the actual energy and area-of-effect will depend upon the tier of the ‘kron in question.

Velokrons are made in three tiers:

Tier 1: Contained power equivalent to Apprentice-level energy. Uses low-grade Pontite crystals that will shatter for single-use only. Range of effect is approximately 3m (10’). Duration of effect is one single IC post.

Tier 2: Contained power equivalent to Knight-level energy. Uses mid-grade Pontite crystals that can be re-charged 3 times before shattering. Range of effect is approximately 6m (20’). Duration of effect is two IC posts.

Tier 2 Velokrons are crafted in the shape of a cube and are slightly smaller than a Tier 3.

Tier 3: Contained power equivalent to Master-level energy. Uses high-grade Pontite crystals that can be recharged 6 times before shattering. Range of effect is approximately 9m (30’). Duration of effect is three IC posts.

Velokrons are made to house AOE powers only, which can include the following:

 • Force Push - Push your objects or enemies back to clear an area without the use of harmful grenades.
 • Force Levitate - Lifts objects and targets off the ground that fall within the effect radius.
 • Plant Surge - Uncontrolled plant growth within target radius. Has diminished to no effect in target areas where plants are not present.
 • *Force storm - Create a localized, temporary storm at the target area. Diminished to no effect in target areas where natural weather conditions cannot be formed (ie: underground, in space, in large buildings, etc)
 • *Force Fear - Targets within effect radius suffer from sudden onset of overwhelming fear and hysteria.
 • *Force Light - Effect radius filled with the power of the Lightside that can expel Darkside spirits and corruption from targets.
 • Force Bellow - A powerful explosion of sound that can render those within the target radius temporarily deaf, disoriented, and even ill or unconscious depending on ‘kron tier.
 • Force Heal - A fall-back for those in the field that can mean the difference between life and death. While it won’t provide insta-healing, it will help to speed the healing process to those in the target radius. The more targets within the radius, the more diminished the ‘krons effects are on each individual.

*denoted powers are available only in Tier 3 Velokrons.
PCs within target radius must decide how the power affects them. Velokrons are not made to circumvent the board rule of GMing or harming/maiming without consent.

Recharging: For Tier 2 and Tier 3 Velokrons that are spent but have remaining charges, they can be returned to any Marrow & Illskins location to be recharged. It can take a several days to sometimes a month for the recharge, depending on the Power in question and the available attending Alchemists. Velokrons cannot be recharged by just any Force User as the process itself requires the knowledge of the ‘kron crafters to do without risking damage to the ‘kron.

 • + Can be used by both FUs and NFUs. One needs only to know the release word inscribed on the bottom of the ‘kron in question.

 • + Small and easy to store, as well as durable. Their alchemized setting helps to protect the crystal core from damage.

 • + Gives NFUs a leg-up in meeting their FU foes on the battlefield.

 • + Every ‘kron has its own unique release word, so there is no chance of setting off more than one if a caster holds multiple.

 • + Easy to use. Simply place your 'kron in a key location or toss into the fray then say the release command. Be sure to take cover if you happen to fall within the target area.

 • + Activated Velokrons will glow brightly while releasing their charge, allowing the caster to pinpoint its location in order to return to it later on should it still have charges left.

 • - Release command must be spoken loud enough and within sound proximity of the 'kron for it to activate. Loud sounds such as explosions can be enough to interfere with activation.

 • - Target radius will effect anything and everything within it, including the caster of the ‘kron. Friendly fire is a likely downside to using these.

 • - The possibility of misfire/misuse shouldn’t be neglected. Casters are warned to keep their ‘krons to themselves, lest a friend learns the release word on one of them and sets it off prematurely as a poor joke.

 • - In the presence of a Force-null field such as those produced by Ysalamir, Velokrons are rendered inert and useless until they are taken outside of the field.

 • - In the presence of Force Nexus Velokrons have been noted to misfire, or crystals to shatter due to an overload of Force energy.

 • - Velokrons give off a noticeable Force signature while carried - the higher the Tier, the more obvious they become to anyone trained in sensing these things. This can attract unwanted attention to the owner...

 • - Some Velokrons are specifically crafted using either the Lightside or the Darkside of the Force and can have adverse effects if carried or touched by one of the opposite side. For instance, a Sith in possession of a Force Light charged Velokron would suffer the side effects of being in the presence of a lightside-imbued artifact.

 • - Not all ‘krons will work in all situations or settings. A Plant Surge ‘kron will likely provide little help in a place like Coruscant. Conversely, a Force storm ‘kron will have next to no effect if used underground or away from open skies.

 • - It is entirely possible for Velokrons to suffer damage by the Force from direct attack of a FU. While the casing may survive and the crystals are made to withstand abuse, the crystals could still potentially be cracked or shattered given the proper catalyst.

 • - It is also entirely possible for a Velokron to be a dud. While every ‘kron is crafted with attention to detail and care, oversights can happen when production levels rise.

 • - Velokron crystals are crafted for their intended charge Force Power and cannot be recharged with any other power.

 • - Once a Velokron crystal has shattered it cannot be modified or repaired for reuse.

Nine meters seems a bit small for a localized storm, is the force storm supposed to be larger than this? Roughly how long would one of these last, too?

The way I envision that working is similar to how a FU would conjure a Force storm. While the power they employ doesn't actually have much reach, the strength and main focal point of the storm is generally situated right above them. So the epicenter of the storm would be over that 9m, while the fringes of the storm would likely reach further.

The strength of the storm (winds, rains, lightning, whathaveyou) would only last for the duration of 3 posts, though the remnants of the storm as it dies off and fades may last a bit longer.
