Modularity - No.
Production - Limited.
Material - Titanium, steel, tempered glass.
Classification - Scout vessel.

Height - 55 meters.
Width - 55 meters.
Armament -
Hangar -
Special Features -
Maneuverability Rating - 15.
Speed Rating - 5.
Hyperdrive Class - 4.
Strengths -

  • Long-lasting nuclear propulsion and power systems require only very infrequent refueling.

  • Capable of independent operation for extremely long durations, limited only by crew fatigue and the useful lifetime of its power sources (which is long indeed).

  • Can effectively fly itself, if required.

  • Many reliable systems, most of which can be repaired by the crew with minimal resources.

  • Fairly large cargo capacity.
Weaknesses -

  • No deflector shields.

  • No inertial compensator.

  • No artificial gravity (except via centrifugal rotation in the habitation ring).

  • Incapable of atmospheric reentry.

  • Sluggish sublight handling; can reach relatively high speeds, but is slow to accelerate and maneuvers poorly.

  • Limited crew and passenger capacity, despite its large size.

  • Fission-based power and propulsion systems generate considerable waste heat and dangerous amounts of radiation, the former necessitating large and vulnerable radiant cooling vanes.

  • Light and more or less obsolete weapon systems, especially for a vessel of its size.

  • Primitive hyperdrive design requires crew and passengers to retreat into stasis booths during operation due to radiation hazards.

  • Simplistic navigational computer must re-calibrate and calculate for the next set of coordinates after each individual jump, which can render more complicated jump sequences extremely time consuming.
- Description -
The Type 99 SHI is a scout vessel, designed for and primarily operated by the MAC, or Miln Astrogational Corps, a professional scouting organization under the auspices of the Hafnip Federation government. The Type 99 is the 99th model to be accepted into service in the role of Scout, Hyperspace, Independent.

Based on a common 330 meter long keel, propulsion and power source configuration widely used by the Miln, the Type 99 is rugged, simple and reliable, if not especially up to date compared to many of its contemporaries. Inheriting the technological deficiencies of its builders, the Type 99 lacks many systems other shipbuilders might take for granted; things like deflector screens, inertial compensators and artificial gravity, for example. For the most part, hardy Miln crews do without, utilizing simple but effective substitutes in some cases. In the case of gravity, most Miln vessels, the Type 99 included, are equipped with a rotating habitation ring where the crew typically spends their off duty hours, with centrifugal force providing the downward pull needed to maintain muscle mass and prevent other zero gravity related maladies from developing; the rest of the ship is typically a weightless environment.
Low-tech solutions can have their advantages, however. Typically sent out on long duration missions, Miln crews are nonetheless able to enjoy fresh air, food and water, recycled through a hydroponic system which converts waste and carbon dioxide into oxygen and purified water, as well as fruit, vegetables, cereal crops and even edible insects and crustaceans. This regenerative life support system can in theory keep a ship's environment livable indefinitely.
In addition to regenerative systems, Type 99s are able to carry up to 14,000 tons of cargo in 14 spherical containers, each with a 1,000 ton capacity.

Unfortunately, the Type 99 has its share of unpleasant weaknesses for which there is but little silver lining. For example, the ship's fission-based power and propulsion systems, though long-lasting, produce tremendous amounts of waste heat and dangerous radiation. Besides being themselves difficult or impossible to repair in open space, these systems require connection to large and relatively delicate radiant cooling vanes, which take up most of the ship's surface area and can easily be damaged by large debris or even light weapons fire, though they are protected from micro-meteors and other very small impacts by an electrostatic repulsion field. Though the nuclear propulsion is fairly efficient and provides a decent top speed for a ship the size of a Type 99, the vessel accelerates sluggishly and is very slow to maneuver, making quick turns and other combat and evasive maneuvers difficult at best.
Miln hyperdrives, as well, while functional, are primitive by even the loosest standards, and downright dangerous by most others. Similar in construction to ancient tumbledrives, the Miln colloquially refer to their version of the technology as "blackout drives", owing to the fact that it is highly inadvisable to be conscious while using one. This is mainly due to the state of Miln null quantum field technology; rather than projecting the field around the vessel, as most generators do, Miln generators conduct the field through the hull and fittings of a ship, flooding it with exotic radiation which would destroy all unprotected organic material.
To get around this, the Miln developed reasonably reliable entropy field technology, which is typically employed in the form of heavily shielded stasis booths which protect the crew and passengers during hyperspace travel. These fields and shielding are also employed in certain Miln cargo containers, as well as being used to protect the hydroponics bays of most vessels. The individual stasis booths can also double as escape pods in an emergency.
Standard Type 99s require a crew of 5, with space for 5 passengers. Incorporation of various automated systems can reduce the crew compliment to just 1, with up to 9 passengers. Common practice is for all crew and passengers to remain in their pods during the majority of a voyage, with course corrections and most on-board functions performed by the ship's sophisticated automatic pilot and on-board Field Utility Droid.

Unlike most contemporary starships, Miln vessels do not incorporate repulsorlift technology, nor do they possess particularly aerodynamic hull-forms in many cases. Because of this, they are for the most part incapable of safely entering a planetary atmosphere, and thus must remain in orbit, acting as a mother-ship for smaller reentry-capable vehicles.
Scout ships such as the Type 99 typically carry four such vehicles, single-seat craft which can be reconfigured for cargo hauling or survey duties.

Despite its limitations, the Type 99 is among the most capable scout vessels built by the Miln, operated by skilled and professional crews who know how to get the absolute most out of their equipment. These unusual vessels have expanded the boarders of the Miln frontier, carrying their crews into the unknown and back again.

Intent - This vessel is intended to serve as a common type of transport available to Miln characters looking to explore the Galaxy at large. Milo Tyranne would use this as his personal transport.
Who Can Use This - Miln PCs, NPCs and organizations.
Note - I made my own art for this submission! What d'you think?

Thanks!
The Type 96 AUL has a full-featured sub-profile in a spoiler in the description; I figured I would run it through at the same time, is it is essentially standard equipment for the Type 99. If that's not acceptable, I can post it as a separate profile.

Milo Tyranne said:
4x light dropship, usually Type 96 AUL, can be substituted with other light aerospace craft.

Please in the future do not post a submission with technology that has not cleared the factory yet. If you need items for a ship post them up and get them approved then post them as a link in your sources section of your submissions :)

Approved pending second.
