But Rome 2 burned me badly with launch day issues...so going to hold off and see player reviews before buying.

Reviews are good. They mostly fixed the launch issues when they released Attila. They've gotten a lot more thorough before releases now.

Welp, I've bought it. Will take a long time for me to download so may as well do it so it's ready for the weekend.

Battles look great. No other commentary right now, only played Empire so far. Some interesting mechanics, but otherwise seems to focus more on battles than strategic apsects.

It feels like Warhammer battles on PC, and that is a high compliment.
Only had time for a couple of turns of a dwarf campaign and a custom battle, but it seems like a lot of fun.
