DISTINCTIONS

Toavan appear to have evolved from some sort of reptilian or avian ancestor. They tend to have a scaly skin that comes in shades of black and grey, as well as heads of feathers which tend to manifest in shades of red, black, and brown. They are lithe, agile creatures clearly more focused on speed and agility than durability and strength. They have a beak-like mouth, filled with teeth adept for both meat and plant consumption. They certainly evolved to look like predators, but their culture had something else in store for them.
Their spindly arms end in three digits, each having a talon on the end. The same goes for their feet.
Toavan are sexually dimorphic. Females tended to have lighter-colored plumage and skin. In general, their feathers tend not to be as thick or plentiful as in males. Female talons tend to be naturally sharper.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

Toavan are fast, agile, and cunning. It was likely they were some sort of ambush predator before they decided they would rather be sapient. Unfortunately, Toavan also have hollow bones. A left over from eons past, truly. This makes them rather fragile creatures when it comes to enduring physical trauma. Toavan also have a tendency to be stubborn and, despite the stereotypes of species that like farming, incredibly ruthless in combat. They also tend to be rather perceptive, particularly in rainforest environments.
Unfortunately, they are ill-suited for cold climates, and tend to not last particularly long within them. Toavan also tend to be highly aggressive.

DIET

When it comes to eating, Toavan are strange creatures indeed. They have a marked preference for fruits and vegetables and very rarely engage in meat consumption. This is more due to cultural reasons rather than biological, despite being obviously omnivorous.

CULTURE

Culturally, the Toavan appear sophisticated. They’re fans of arts and sciences and all manner of things. But they’re also incredibly aggressive and love to compete with one another- sometimes to fatal results. Their culture has also had a long time fascination with the sun. At one point, they worshiped it, but they’ve since fallen out of such primitive beliefs. Still, many of their holiday traditions either revolve around the sun or agriculture.

Toavan are also big fans of farming and prefer vegetarian diets rather than the omnivorous one they are biologically fit for. They also fancy themselves guardians of nature, and refuse to engage in activities that are hazardous to their planet’s environment. This mostly comes from their former reverence of the God Olmetecutil, who presided over things like nature, the sun, and agriculture.

HISTORY
The Toavan’s history is discussed in great detail at this location.
