Strengths:
- Tough. The Defender was always a tough nut to crack, and the update of modern shields and armour means this ship can take a fair beating before failing.
- Jedi Ship. Intended for use by a Jedi Master, the ship contains a meditation chamber, archives and records, study and Alkahest forge. This allows Phylis to go for months without needing to return to base.
- Added Weapons. In addition to the Defender’s old weaponry, Phylis has added two quad lasers to the ship to augment its defences. These are remotely controlled like the others.
- Minimal Crew. Able to operate with just one crew, the Defender Class is perfect for lone Jedi operations. Phylis has droids and other automation to assist, especially with targeting the weapons and running the scanners.
- Not A Warship. Despite having more weapons and being tough, this ship is not a warship. It is too slow to fight attack craft effectively and too weak to damage escorts.
- Droid Accuracy. Without a crew to support her, Phylis would have to rely on the droid automatic targeting to use the weapons whilst she pilots. This makes the weapons she does have less effective than if she had people using them.
- Bulky. Never a sleek ship, this craft has had considerable weight added to it in the form of the archives, meditation chamber etc. making it slower and heavier to manoeuvre than a freighter of comparable size.
Description:
In the days of the Great Galactic War many thousands of years ago, the Defender Class Corvette was the chosen vessel for Jedi in their fight against the Sith Empire. Many of these ships were produced, and due to their utility and sturdiness many of them survived for centuries afterwards.
This particular ship, originally called the Wellspring, was used in the Great Galactic War, but suffered critical damage in action over an uninhabited world. The ship was critically damaged and abandoned, its occupants slain.
Fast forward nearly four thousand years and a survey droid belonging to the Galactic Republic came across the wreck of the ship in 837ABY. This, at a time when the Jedi Order was rapidly expanding, meant that anything salvageable was useful. Taken back to Rendili where it had been made so long before, the occupants were given a fitting burial before engineers rebuilt the ship. After two years the ship had been rebuilt mostly to its original specifications and was ready for a test flight.
Jedi Master Phylis Alince, needing a ship for her frequent journeys, started to work on the craft, though other Jedi used it for several years. It was only after the Netherworld crisis and the defeats of the Republic to the Sith that she had the ship assigned to herself on a permanent basis. With that done she completed her personal refits. Now becoming a Jedi out of the order, it will become her base of operations and home.
The last thing required was a name. Though she rather liked Wellspring, she was tempted to name it the Knowledge Ark, but was thankfully dissuaded from that. And so, the Wellspring it remains.
Internally, the ship is similar to its original configuration. Upstairs the circular conference room now houses the meditation chamber, and the room next to it the Alkahest Forge and workroom. Nearer to the bridge, the old meeting room was converted into a training area, whilst the room opposite that became her study and library. This study houses the holo transmitter.
Downstairs are the sleeping, eating and amenity areas along with the storage and space for the archives. The engineering area also houses a force cage which was added by a Jedi Shadow who had used the ship before her, and which Phylis keeps ‘just in case’.
As far as crew, Phylis is usually the only organic on board, with ERP-69 for company, and a couple of other protocol or other droids as needed. The ship can handle up to 10 people, though it would be rather crowded if that was the case!
One passenger which the ship has now is a small green lizard acquired on Ossus. Phylis has given him/her/it the rather unimaginative name of ‘Greenie’, and they now live on the ship as if it’s their territory. Phylis has given the lizard a small plant to live in, but it tends to like it downstairs where it is warm and quiet.
The ship is Phylis’ home and place for her to study as she travels around the galaxy. If she acquires apprentices and friends they have room to come aboard also.

Intent: To create a personal ship for Phylis to wander the galaxy in. It is a ship mainly designed for exploration and study, but also has some defences in case combat is unavailable. It also has some designs and amenties to store Jedi archives and records, as well as other things a Light Alchemist needs. Since this writer really likes TOR this is a nice throwback.
