The Sojourner was once an exceedingly unassuming vessel, to most, it might still be. A YT-3400 fresh off the line of the Corellian Engineering Corporation, it was first used as a cargo transport vessel within the Galactic Alliance, traversing standard trade lanes from the core out to the Inner Rim. The freighter was eventually disabled and captured by pirates while carrying medical supplies to a facility in the Outer Rim. Brought to Nar Shaddaa, the cargo vessel was sold to a local criminal group who scrubbed the vessel of all of its original registration, replacing its transponder and serial numbers to ensure it couldn't be traced back to the Galactic Alliance, before it was sold off to the Hutt Cartel.
Modified by the Hutts to be a smuggling vessel, The Sojourner came under the ownership of Aurra Tavik, a spice-runner in the employ of Maragga the Hutt. Aurra made a number of initial modifications to the vessel, increasing the output of its ion engines and building in a number of hidden, shielded compartments throughout the vessel's hull that could be utilised for smuggling contraband. For years, Aurra piloted The Sojourner across the Outer Rim in her work for the Hutt Cartel, making both a name for herself and a significant quantity of credits, though she also made a number of debts.
In an effort to pay off some of her debts, Aurra Tavik was eventually forced to sell off The Sojourner to cover some of her debts, transferring its ownership to a group of freedom fighters opposed to the New Imperial Order. The ship's new owners made a number of additional modifications to upgrade the vessel's stealth systems, including a sensor stealth coating and anti-ion emission tracer, in order to better allow the vessel to avoid detection from Imperial sensors while it served its new primary purpose as a gun-runner. After the collapse of the New Imperial Order, the ship became a personal craft for one of the rebels that had piloted it, until it was stolen by Rylan Hassick, an independent smuggler whose allegiances jumped frequently between the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartels and the Black Sun.
Rylan brought The Sojourner to Corellia, and with the assistance of his young protege, Ben Thano, he made his own set of modifications to the vessel as its previous owners had before him. Building a transponder mask into the vessel's systems, Rylan began to use The Sojourner as his primary vessel, using it to run all kinds of contraband, or as a getaway craft for a variety of criminal groups and gags throughout the galaxy. Most notably (and recently), he utilised the vessel in a botched attempt to steal a large shipment of weapons being carried by the Black Sun, intended for delivery to the Galactic Empire. Rylan's failure earned him the ire of the Black Sun, and a price was put on his head which the bounty hunter Koda Fett collected on.
With no other owner available to take hold of the ship, the ownership of The Sojourner fell into the hands of the inexperienced Ben Thano, a lowly street-thief from Corellia. By far the least experienced of the vessel's numerous owners, Ben has lucked into a ship that is practically a smuggler's dream. He just has to learn how to use it effectively.
