SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
  • What’s Up, Doc?- The Semmelweis is equipped to handle any medical issue, from a simple sprained ankle to an immunocompromised alien with a rare and deadly disease, to a heavily damaged burn victim. The station is outfitted in peak medical technology and staffed with galactic medical specialists, organic and inorganic.
  • Good Defense- Many layers of shielding help keep the station safe in the event of an attack.
  • Power Core- As a medical vessel, The Semmelweis is equipped with a large power supply, several failsafe’s and backup generators in the event of a power failure. The large power supply allows the station to activate it’s shielding while maintaining power to most of the vessel. In the event that all shields and defensive mechanisms are active, some departments may lose power, while critical departments will always remain active.
Weaknesses:
  • Here I Am- The Semmelweis is a massive station, slow and lumbering. It can’t mask itself from any sensors, nor does it have cloaking capabilities which leaves it unable to hide from attackers. Travel through hyperspace is used rarely and only in the event of an emergency given that the station’s numerous delicate systems need to be locked down and prepped.
  • Lacks Offense- The Semmelweis has 100 guns total, entirely for defensive measures. The station’s particle shields must also be deactivate for the guns to be used.
  • Sluggish- Slow and difficult to maneuver, this station wasn’t built for travel unless absolutely necessary. It cannot come to the patient, rather the patient must come to it.
Description:

The Semmelweis is a massive medical station designed to handle a large number of patients with both basic and complex needs. This medical station employs the use of various types of medical droids and organic employees of all species, incorporating specialists in nearly every medical discipline from across the galaxy. Several specific portions of the medical center are climate controlled with the use of environmental converters to accommodate the needs of different species, and air scrubbers are used in nearly all oxygen-rich sectors to ensure that the air is clean. The Semmelweis is also a hub of medical research and cutting edge clinical trials for new drugs and therapies through biomedical and genetic research.
Major medical components of The Semmelweis are as follows:
  • Burn Ward
  • Cosmetic and Synthetic Dermatology
  • Critical Care
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Emergency room
  • Gene Therapy
  • Hematology and Clinical Laboratory
  • Hypno-Trance
  • Infectious Disease
  • Internal Medicine
  • Neonatal Unit and Pediatrics
  • Neurology
  • Obstetrics and Reproductive Services
  • Oncology
  • Physical Therapy
  • Pharmacy
  • Prosthetics and Orthopedics
  • Post Anesthesia Care Unit
  • Research Laboratories
  • Substance Rehabilitation
  • Surgical Center
  • Toxicology
  • Xenomedicine and Xenopathology
In addition to being equipped to handle the most critical and delicate of medical issues, The Semmelweis is also prepped to handle a large number of refugees and their needs. A special sector of the station is dedicated to the care of refugees, though they may be housed in different parts of the station depending on their needs. Major components of the refugee sector are as follows:
  • Housing (Up to 6,000 bodies)
  • Cafeteria
  • Dedicate refreshers
  • Childcare
  • Medical care as needed
  • Counseling as needed
