The Road On Which We Travel [Thurion]

A message sent to Théo, extending the stay of Thirdas for a week longer which Théo did not seem to mind as he had been enjoying the company of his younger brother. Who knew what mischief they had got into, and it was probably for the best that father and mother did not know. Théo would journey with Thirdas to Fridheim when Coci and Thurion had returned.

Although their journey could have been shorten by the flight of the gryphon, but that was not point of their trip. The point was to be able to spend time with each other, just the two of them. It had been a long time since they had had the pleasure of each other's company without any thoughts of duty or care of others in any sense of the word. Not that they did not care, but it was time to be mindful of their lives for once.

They had bid Thyrian farewell .. for now and took their leave of him and Tháinbroek and Coci and Thurion sat astride two fine horses from Rildonmark which formed part of the Royal Stables and turned their horses heads toward the western horizon. They would not go far this day, speed was not of the essence, and so they trundled at leisure along the winding road that would lead them toward the first of may mountain ranges which they would have to cross.

The path is well known to them now ..

Coci pulled her fur around her body, keeping the chill of the icy wind from cutting her to the bone, yet the feeling of biting cold is invigorating filling the soul with life and her cheeks flush with blood and rosy. Her black eyes, regardless of aging, still see what others do not and ahead the movement of life within the forest that looms large around them curries to their burrows although curious as to who will pass them by.

A shriek cuts the silence, and a large shadow falls over horse and riders. It is Skywalker and Cloudancer at play on the cold updraft before they turn toward the west as well and reunite with their cubs. As they vanish from the horizon, Coci's eyes fall on the face of Thurion, still as handsome as the day she first met him even before they departed for that fateful mission. A flush of youth crossed her face, as her heart filled with love for him once more, and all of a sudden she felt a little nervous as if it was the first time they would spend time alone, together .. how very strange after all these years.

"The Sun falls below the horizon chasing after them", she nodded toward the vanishing forms of the gryphon, "And we should find a place to camp for the night". A girlish smile broke across her lips, the same sparkle of intrigue he would see in her eyes and the love in her heart.

Battle-trained though his white mare may be, Thurion's steed reared her head at the whoosh of wings and shrieks in the skies above. It was but a slight momentary loss of composure, however, and with Thurion patting her along the neck she was soon comforted. "Easy, girl," he soothed the mare as they resumed their leisurely journey back to Fridheim, halfway across the continent. Many days and nights would pass before they'd arrive, a fact which neither of them had neglected take into account. It was a chance for husband and wife to spend some quality time together, braving the wilderness of Midvinter on their own.

"Leave it to Father to rouse us from our slumber and tuck us in at night," he replied on Coci's mentioning the sunset over the mountains of the west. Glancing to his side, he couldn't help but notice her observing him with a look he hadn't seen in a long time. It was the same face as she wore during their first date, when they had dinner on the beaches of Laekia following their first meeting - and subsequent night together. Thurion raised an eyebrow and smirked her way.

"What are you plotting now," he asked her, not expecting an answer. That would just take the fun out of it.

Continuing a bit farther, they eventually stopped and dismounted to set up camp for the night in a small woodland clearing right by a running creek. Once their tent was erected Thurion went to gather kindling for the fire while Coci furnished their temporary home with bedrolls and furs to cover the cold ground. Upon his return they got a fire going and huddled up together, bundled up under one of the furs with Thurion's arms wrapped around her. Having kicked his boots off, he stretched his legs out with his feet by the fire, revealing his big toe poking out of his sock. "Bastard's been annoying the hell out of me since we set out this morning," he admitted before pulling both his socks off.

[member="Coci Heavenshield"]

"You know I think there is enough credits in our coffers to cover a new pair of sock", her words once finished was followed by a healthy laugh. She turned in her place and kissed his cheek just before folding back the fur in which they seek warmth and leaned forward to turn the cooking meat in the pan over the fire. Sadly for Thurion, is was not foul, but a nice large piece of red meat. Half of which she would cook to her taste before allowing it to continue cooking to his.

On top of a small box which carried they rations, now acting as a table, she sat two glasses. One she filled with mead from Théo's Howlin' Wolf, called the bum hummer, and another of blue milk. "I wonder why Théo called this brew of mead, bum hummer?", she turned to Thurion with a puzzled look. However, Coci had her suspicions, Théo never did anything without hidden motive.

She handed the blue milk to Thurion before settling back into the fur with her own glass in hand. "Here is to a long restful journey home", she raised her glass to toast the wayfarers. A soft sound of patting on the canvas heralded the start of the rain for the evening. The temperature, although very cold was not cold enough for form snow, not yet anyway, but the mood was light between them, and the rain only helped to settle them into a state of relaxation.

Although Coci was aware that never can one be at total peace in this galaxy, as anything can happen and most likely anything will.

"It will be a hard day tomorrow, especially on the horses as we will climb to find the pass to the west". She snuggled into his side with one arm around his waist, her head leaning gently against his shoulder and her hand raised her glass to her lips. All was well only for a moment! before she spat out the bum hummer into the fire which for a brief moment erupted into flames upon impact.

Coci started her fit of cough, as her throat burned with the fire of the drink.

Thurion watched as she poured them their respective drinks, eyes never leaving hers as he studied her face he knew every nook and cranny of, and how she still looked as beautiful as the day they first met. There were a few more lines gracing her skin and some more pronounced wrinkles, but still no gray hairs in sight and her overall physique remained unchanged in spite of the years having marched on. When she reached over to pour him his glass of blue milk he reached out to rub some dirt off her cheek with the use of his thumb, smiling as he did.

"Don't know," came his reply to her question regarding the Bum Hummer, his thoughts so set on her that they didn't even bother coming up with a theory as to why. Before they each partook in their drink he gently touched his glass to hers for a simple toast between husband and wife out on the road. Just as he started sipping his favourite drink, however, Coci suddenly spat out her beverage followed by a coughing fit. Rather than swallowing his blue milk, the sight of his beloved reacting so unexpectedly made him choke on it, causing him to join her in coughing as he could not refrain from laughing. While struggling himself, he started patting Coci on her back in an attempt to offer his assistance.

The initial stages of their meal having gone horribly wrong for the both of them, once they'd gotten over the silly situation Thurion offered her a fresh cup of blue milk rather than that vile stuff their son had taken to brewing. "Here you go, easier on the throat," he chuckled. "I don't think our son really knows how to brew ale, he just wants to poison us so he gets all our stuff!"

Giving it another try, he raised his glass once more and took another sip, this time making sure to swallow it too. "Ahh, that hits the spot!" Drinking it never failed to transport him backwards in time, to when he was but a boy no older than Thirdas. "I think we better eat our meal while it's hot," he added before digging into his red meat, as ever cooked to perfection to his liking.

The blue milk helped greatly in removing the heat from the Bum Hummer, soothing her mouth with each mouthful. Not that she likes blue milk it is one of those necessary evils in life to her but now it was heaven. Coci did not need much encouragement to begin dinner after that, the journey had built up her appetite considerably and the smell of the cooked meat was too much to be denied. There was little by way of side dishes, just a heavy helping of potatoes which she managed to dress with a herb found on the road. The hares were eating it, so it much be consumable to them?

The herb certainly tasted good, so much so that Coci reached for more and placed a sprig on Thurion's plate but she began to nibble on her's stem and all akin to the hares they had seen on the road. "Théo is going to be very disappointed if that is the case", she said through mouthfuls of chewing dinner which was promptly washed down with a healthy helping of blue milk. "By the Gods I am so hungry".

She turned to look at Thurion, her eyes widened as her husband seemed to have sprouted long ears and long white whiskers coming out of his cheeks and .. his nose twitched as if sniffing the air. For a moment she sat in disbelief, shaking her head to clear her mind and vision but it remained .. "Thurion?", she asked in a whisper. "You .. ahem .. you have whiskers", it would sound absurd, but the fact remained, at least in her eyes. And Coci broke out into a fit of giggles.

But something more was happening to her as a result of the intoxicating herbs.
[member="Thurion Heavenshield"]

Noting her strange looks, at first Thurion became awfully self-conscious and began looking down at his chest, thinking he'd spilled food or drink on it or something. "W-what?" When she then made mention of him having grown... whiskers? His eyes crossed as he tried to look down his nose, wrinkling and twitching it about. He was about to ask her whether she was feeling alright, only to look across to see her having sprouted the exact same appendages, long bunny ears and whiskers. His brows furrowed and his head tilted to the side, trying to make sense of it all.

"Are you... feeling alright," he had to ask. "Did... did you put something in our food?" He could feel his body become hot and sticky with every second, as if having caught a fever in record time. While his thought yet remained his own, he began searching his own plate for the culprit. It wasn't the meat - they'd eaten from the very same animal that morning back in Tháinbroek. It certainly wasn't the blue milk, and it couldn't have been the Bum Hummer as only Coci had partaken. Finally he plucked a small piece of herb off his meat and examined it, his thoughts beginning to swim with... other desires, only further enhanced when looking back at Coci.

"I think... I think... this..." he tried to muster one last rational sentence, only to then toss the green herb aside and throw himself at her, knocking their makeshift table over without a care. He got on top of her and pinned her to the fur-covered ground, his eyes lit up as he was driven insane by sudden lust, and his lips finding hers for the hardest and deepest snog imaginable, pouring his all into it. His hands went everywhere, feeling their way up and down her tight body he knew by heart, yet now it felt like a wholly new, exciting experience.

He began tearing at her clothes, wanting to rid her of it all...

[member="Coci Heavenshield"]

Listening and watching his deamour change, she moved in a crawl to the side of the furs as if to circle him with her own intent. Like a creature circling a mate teasing and enticing them, to test if they are the strongest of them all, but that changed she had become the prey and in the blink of an eye he launched at her pinning her to the ground. Although fearsome in his 'attack', it is what she wanted but the animalistic fight only just began. And from her vulnerable position she fought back, pushing at him by the shoulders to try and lift him off her and take ascendancy for herself. His wild kiss only fueling both of them as she returned it with her own fearsomeness deep and probing.

Coci could feel the tugging on her clothes, the sound of ripping without care only matched by the same sound of his clothes giving way to her strength. Each in complete lack of control, everything thrown to the care of the wind around them, rational thought vanished.

Arms and legs entwined, bodies pressed to each others to vie for dominance and before she knew it, she had the upper hand as she sat up astride him with her long black hair disheveled, her black eyes wide and filled with only him. She is naked and now it was time to take what was hers.

And so the evening passed into the dead of night .. and nothing would deny them.
[member="Thurion Heavenshield"]

The first thing he felt was a ray of bright sunlight as it struck the golden-blue canvas of their tent, lighting up the interior and providing added warmth. The first sound he heard was the chirping of birds bathing in the small creek right next to them. The first thing he saw upon barely opening his heavy eyes was the black hair of his beloved resting in his arms, clinging to him just as he did to her.

The next thing he felt was a pounding headache making itself known, as if Teign himself was stuck in his head hammering away on his anvil. Barely remembering a thing from last night, save for them making camp and pitching the tent and whatnot, Thurion found himself lying naked alongside Coci, with the insides of the tent just as wrecked as they were. The fire had long since died out, yet thanks to their closeness coupled with furs wrapped around them they seemed to have managed to stay warm through the night.

"Wha..." he grunted and groaned while barely able to muster the strength to move at all, and his palm pressed to his forehead in vain attempts to stifle his ache. "Oh, gods..." He managed to slither his way out of Coci's grasp, as always trying not to wake her up while he attempted to piece together just what had happened last night. Sitting up took just about all the strength he had, getting a better look at the mayhem they'd apparently caused. It certainly seemed like they'd enjoyed themselves, even though he couldn't remember any of it.

"The food," he suddenly remembered, and so he dragged himself over to the fireplace where they'd dined, crawling on all fours like a toddler unable to walk. Sure enough he found his plate lying on the floor just as he'd left it, somehow having miraculously not turned over like just about everything else had. There he also found the piece of green herb - the suspected culprit behind their sudden loss of rationality. "You ass..." he scolded it before tossing it out the half-open flap to their tent. He then realised just what time of day it was.

Poking his head outside, it was already noon with the sun sitting high in the sky, beaming to its fullest. A sigh escaped him as they had successfully lost an entire day's worth of travelling, for neither was in the shape to break camp any time soon. Better to remain and rest up properly. Returning to where Coci lay among the furs, he again wrapped his arms around her naked form, pressing his body to hers as he craved more sleep. Already what little energy he'd mustered was depleted, but even so he managed a tiny kiss upon her forehead.

[member="Coci Heavenshield"]

She had had the strangest dream. Yet no matter how hard she tried to recall it, the details would escape her. Tantalisingly sitting on the edge of her mind, although there was some recollection of a small creature, the smell of bark and pine and.. it was no use, the details would elude her. It did not help that her head felt heavy, dull and throbbed against her temples. As Thurion shifted from their bed on ground her head fell to the side with the sudden movement of her 'pillow'.

The draft of cold air entered the furs as he left, and she could not understand why he would. As consciousness returned somewhat, she felt the ground push back against her body and she wondered why their bed in Fridheim was not as soft as she remembered. Using one arm, Coci managed to prop herself up, her long black hair falling around her face shrouding it from sight save her own and it was now she noticed her hair was mattered, with pieces of twigs and leaves tangled in it.

Her body ached as much as her head did, if not more and a small groan escaped her lips and as her eyes grained focus once more, the first thing she saw was Thurion crawling toward the flap in the tent, an interesting view first thing in the morning to see her beloved's backside. "Thur .. ion. What .. what happened?", she asked hoping he had the answers. Oh yes they are in a tent, she looked around to see the destruction of their things, the tent leaned precariously the main pole at a 'dangerous' angle. As he pulled back the flap to throw something outside, the light from without burned into her eyes and she turned away. It was then she noticed the caked mud on her torso, dried and clinging to her skin and she had no idea how it got there.

But sitting up became too much, the swirling thoughts in her head just too hard to fathom at this point and she found solace in the furs once more just as Thurion returned to do the same. Coci pulled the furs around them as he kissed her forehead, and as they settled back the world at large vanished as they hide under the safety of the fur in their own world. They may not remember details of last night, but their bodies told the story well enough .. at least her's did. Coci let out a sigh, with a growing smile on her lips as she closed her eyes once more.

Hours passed before he would stir a second time from his deep slumber, and the first thing he noted was the pounding headache having ceased. His mind was clear once more, yet the details of their steamy night remained a mystery for now. At least he could think coherent thoughts again. Feeling his wife's touch upon his chest, he looked down to find her clinging to his body under the warm furs. Rather than slip out of her grasp as he had before, this time he made no such attempt and instead tenderly caressed her soft cheek with his thumb grazing her red lips.

Without a word he leaned down just enough to place his lips upon hers - whether she was conscious enough to notice or not - for a gentle morning kiss, even though morning had passed many hours ago. It was already late in the afternoon and the sun was beginning its descent across the Midvinter sky. But he was no longer troubled by their being late, for better to stay for another night than to break camp only to raise it once more an hour later.

"Hey you," he whispered as her eyes opened, his forehead against hers and their noses nuzzling. Reaching for her left hand he placed a kiss upon her wedding band. "Have I ever told you I love you?" He smiled wide with nothing but adoration in his eyes for the woman he has shared his life with for so long.

"Just... don't pick any more herb you find by the wayside, if you would. I don't think my body could take it," he added with a smirk, feeling the numbness throughout his body knowing full well what would have caused such a physical strain. "Let's just... stay like this for a while longer?"

[member="Coci Heavenshield"]

Finally, she had entered a deep healing sleep, her dreams no longer plagued with strange images of small creatures indulging in the heights of spring. Coci rested upon Thurion's chest, soothed by the rise and fall of his every breath and safe within his arms. As she roused from slumber, the first thing her mind grasped was the touch of his hand upon her face, his scent under the fur and his warm lips to hers. She opened her eyes to be greeted with his sapphire blue eyes looking deeply into hers, that is all she could see was his eyes as beautiful as the day they first met. Although his eyes had seen many things in life, from the good to the bad, but she could still see that boyish character in the man .. her beloved Thurion.

"You have told me many times you love me, but it would be best if we keep it a secret .. after all I don't want my husband to find out", she said in all seriousness, but her eyes would give away her mirth, as she rolled to lay on top of him. She stretched her body, her arms extending passed his head before finding his hair to play in. And as she did so, her body told her of the night's events, still aching but feeling wonderful with it.

"Are you sure I should not at least pick a posey of them to take home?", she smirked back. "After all we could plant them in the greenhouse at the medical centre, .. for medicinal purposes of course", she stuck her tongue out at him in jest.

"I love you Thurion", And she did, more than she could say and more than he would every really know. If he wishes to stay here longer, that was fine with her, in fact if he wanted to stay forever, it would be so.

[member="Thurion Heavenshield"]

"Well..." he smirked, knowing her thoughts. "Maybe just a couple of them. For medicinal purposes, as you say." His arms wrapped around her as she rolled on top of him, keeping her close and relishing her body pressing down on his. As she pronounced her love for him most sincere, his heart melted and he could not stop smiling. "I am yours, and you are mine," he spoke, caressing her cheek with the back of his fingers, and his eyes fixated upon her red lips just before leaning in to place his on hers. There truly was no end to their love; it was an impervious bond, only strengthened by the constant and unyielding march of time.

There was no Thurion without Coci. They were one.

Another hour went by with the two of them simply enjoying each other's company and cuddling under the warm furs, and already it started to get dark again. By now they'd managed to get at least modestly dressed as it grew colder with the sun disappearing behind the mountaintops. Thurion had gotten the fire back up and running when he heard the neighing of horses from outside their tent along with uneasy trampling of hooves. His senses went on high alert for a second. "Something's spooked the horses," he told Coci and reached for his boots to pull on.

Stumbling out of the tent, he looked to where the horses stood tied to a tree right by the small creek. At first he'd feared someone had been trying to steal their horses, and that he'd step out to find them gone. He breathed a sigh of relief, yet still they remained just as wary and uneasy. His Jedi senses warned him of impending danger, but not before the snarling of a great wolf caught his ear just as it leaped at him, teeth bared and jaws wide open.

Thurion raised his arm to defend himself only for the wolf to drive its sharp teeth into the flesh of his forearm. He snarled right back at it, fighting against the pain as he grabbed it by its forelegs and threw it to the ground. "Coci, arm yourself," he called out to her inside the tent just as he summoned Snowfall to his side, sliding out of its sheathe strapped to his horse and finding the palm of his hand. Before the wolf was able to regain its footing Thurion drove his sword into its gut, spilling its dark-red blood upon the white snow.

Once assured it was dead did he pull his sword back out, now covered in blood. Several howls could be heard in the darkness surrounding them. There would be many more of them...

[member="Coci Heavenshield"]

And there was no Coci without Thurion. Their souls as one combined with a force bond that would never be broken, only by physical death.

They had spent the best part of the day wrapped up in the furs and each other, but even that would not stop the intrusion of their stomachs and this time she would take much more care in the preparation of their dinner. Coci pulled on her clothes and gathered the rations placing him back in the wooden box only kept out what was needed for the meal. While Thurion set about seeing to the horses, she tidied up as best she could, packing things away so when the morning broke they would be ready to take down their camp and set off once more for Fridheim.

She too sensed the danger, her head turning toward the flap in the tent only moments before she heard Thurion warn her to arms. She summon her saber to her hand and pushed back the flap only to be confronted with the sight of Thurion bitten by a large black wolf. A mean ugly thing, with the only purpose of killing everything here. The howls on the wind of the pack told her the others would be set upon them at any moment. She raced to the side of her husband, purple saber blade ignited and held with two hands as she took stance. "It had to be wolves", she found a moment for a jest, and how creatures and people on Midvinter grow to such heights and strength.

The horses pulled against their strapping, she was in two minds of what to do for them, tethered they would be vulnerable unable to escape if they had a chance and she figured it would be best to release them, they would stand a better chance free to run. So she let them loose in hope they would get away. They did not hesitate to take the freedom and bolted into the surrounding forest and if they get through this Coci and Thurion might be able to find them once more.

On the edge of the surrounding forest, the glowing eyes of the wolves penetrated, their eyes lit by her saber. They were mere shadows in the shifting light, "Got any animal magic up your sleeve?", she had a feeling it would not work anyway, as the wolves only had blood lust in their bodies. She stood back to back with Thurion as they moved in a circular motion to gauge and cover where the attack would spring from. They did not have to wait long, as out of the thick bush one of them lunged for her, mouth open agape, dripping spittle fell from it's fangs ready to tear her apart. Her saber poised to the side, Coci dropped to the ground as the wolf sprung and as it descended, her saber cut against it's neck decapitating it. The singe of fur and flesh made her feel sick to the stomach as the head rolled to the side and the body fell with a loud thud to the ground at her feet.

This action only enraged the pact.

Gripping Snowfall tightly with both hands, Thurion turned to see their horses set loose to hopefully escape the pack of predators now that their focus had shifted. It didn't take long for Coci to join him in fending off the vicious wolves, and though the bite he'd sustained but a moment ago ached something fierce it would not deter Thurion as he prepared for another assault. In the darkness red eyes lit up, their black hides rendering them otherwise invisible against the night. Spine-chilling snarling came from all directions as they were soon surrounded on all sides.

Thurion backed up against Coci, eyes falling upon her purple saber. Then both their eyes met for a second, and his resolve was immediately strengthened. "Enough of this," he said and shoved his sword into the ground where he stood, leaving it there as he reached out towards their tent. Inside, resting within his pack, his oldest companion came alive and quickly sought the palm of his hand. As soon as they connected it switched on, casting its deep blue hue against their surroundings while humming its familiar tune. The Force surged through his being as the Jedi was reawakened once more.

With a flourish of his lightsaber, the pack charged.

What followed was an onslaught of gnashing teeth and flurries of sabers as husband and wife fought for their lives, with Thurion dodging and weaving as the wolves leaped at him, counterattacking by slicing them apart one at a time, singing flesh and fur to horrific effect. Their hides proved tougher than expected, calling for several strikes before they would give way to the searing heat and power of their Jedi weapons. As it is with most beasts, their abdomens are the most vulnerable part of their body, and the shaggy hide seemed less thick there compared to the rest of them.

Just as one was about to pounce Coci from behind, Thurion snatched it out of the air with a pull of his hand, causing it to tumble towards him in confusion. Rather than slaying it there and then, he instead reached into its feral mind and planted a command for it to follow. The hound seemed to calm down and look around in bewilderment, only to then howl to the night sky and summon his brethren to his side before rushing off elsewhere, leaving behind its many dead. The remainder followed suit, for it appeared this particular beast was their leader.

Once the skirmish was over with the snarling and howling of wolves disappearing into the night, growing fainter each time, Thurion slumped down to rest against one of the fallen to catch his breath. "Well then," he wiped his face of any muck and blood. "That was... terrifying in every way imaginable." His lightsaber extinguished, he looked down at his hand trembling uncontrollably. It dawned on him that he had not truly feared for his life in a long time. Tracing his arm further up, he noted the bite wounds he'd sustained earlier and immediately let out a disgusted scoff.

"What a karking mess," he sighed.

The shifting within the shadows of the trees she could see with a clarity, a gift of sight of her black eyes that could, always did, have the ability to penetrate such places. Her son Thirdas would inherit the same gift from her, but now her eyes followed the shadows and was able to anticipate their attack. The attack was strange from these wolves, mostly they would keep the high lands and hunt on their usual prey but for them to be here so far south of their territory was disturbing. What was driving them to venture so far? was it a lack food or something more sinister?

Thurion and Coci would have to consider this later, she hated the fact she had to cut them down even though they worked as a pack, there was a sense of urgency to them which forced errors in their planning, it was like a desperation .. it was odd. And she was thankful when Thurion had worked his magic to 'convince' what appeared to be the Alpha to turn the pack away. They were laying everywhere it seemed, Coci had sustained many cuts and deep scratches on her arms from the close quarters of the attack but nothing that would not mend in time. Once the threat has passed she found Thurion on the ground, breathing laboured and covered in muck, she went to him and fell to the ground next to him, immediately Coci took his wounded arm in her hands.

"Let me look at this", she could see the puncture marks of the wolf's teeth, and although he had stopped bleeding from the wound, it looked nasty and red and would need clearing before infection or worse, set in. She could sense the pack moving away from them in the distance, it was safe now and she slowly stood to help him up off the ground to return to their tent.

"Just stay put I will get some fresh water to bathe your arm", she went to move off but before she did she took his face in her cupped hands and rested her forehead to his closed her eyes grateful to the force and Gods that he was alright. Coci could not remember the last time she saw her Thurion in this way, never did he dwell on the fear of loosing his life, that was always given to others, the fear that others would die, but this time he had. His hands were still trembling, she removed hers from his handsome face and took them in hers before raising them both to her lips.
