The Office of Judicial Affairs

The Office of Judicial Affairs is one of the three branches of the Republic government. At it's head is a tribunal of judges (NPC's) that oversee the general law of the Republic, making decisions based on their interpretation of the Republic charter as well as the laws of any planets involved, with cooperation in the form of representation of all planets involved in order to further the understanding of any laws in question. As a result, this can sometimes be a long process, and only the greatest of tests of legality ever make it to the tribunal. Most matters are handled by lesser judges (also NPC's).

The main arm of the law is the Office of Special Investigations. These people are tasked with investigating any and all matters of legality, and representing the government in the summary trial. Rather than having a typical security force to investigate crimes and hand the trial off to someone else, true immersion is sought by these Special Investigators as they search for the evidence and then use it to try criminals. These people are highly trained in both understanding of the law, crime scene investigation, and necessary combat and apprehension techniques, though are required to utilize non-lethal force in all encounters while operating as an agent of the Office of Special Investigations.

OOC Info:
Special Investigators are the main player branch of the Office of Judicial Affairs. Of these, I am the Chief Investigator at this time.

Investigation assignments will be handed out as needed, and sometimes will require more than one Investigator. However, general rule of thumb is that if you tackle the investigation, you follow it all the way through without consulting any other investigator in order to avoid bias and cross contamination of cases.

Major trials of PC characters will be conducted ICly upon capture. For a guilty or innocent verdict to be rendered, the entire populace of the New Republic faction will be polled for a 5 day period of time. It will be a public poll and individuals may only vote once (no alt padding). Each individual will be required to write a short IC post in the poll thread as to why they believe the person is innocent or guilty. This will help to avoid OOC biases. If found guilty, a second poll will be conducted in regards to punishment. The faction decides all cases involving PC's.
