The jolt of a vessel reverting back to real space never ceased to surprise Fleet Admiral Carlyle Rausgeber. As the blue dazzling light faded, and the immediate space became clear. The void above Rakata Beta was a mess to say the least. Listing star destroyers feebly fired into Ssi-Ruuk vessels. The space around Rakata Beta was alive with fires, and movement as TIE Fighters fought drones, and twisted and writhed in strange patterns as they tried to gain the advantage.

"Give me a SITREP." The Admiral barked to his subordinates, "I want Comms, scanners and everything up." He added, all telemetry would be necessary to gauge the situation.

A silence came over the command bridge as the crew began to organise a report. The officer turned away from his crew, and continued to observe the battle. The Malice began to fire, her turbolasers glowing green in the void as they began to pepper the enemy fleet.

Rausgeber's silent observance of the battle ended with a report from the Scanning Officer, the youthful midshipman in charge of sourcing such data. "Admiral, the enemy fleet is pulling away from the system." The Officer reported, "What shall our course of action be sir?"

Rausgeber paused, and considered the possibilities. The idea of reinforcing the defensive fortifcations appealed to him. Rakata Beta's shipyards were vital for the First Order's war effort. But, the Ssi-Ruuk fleet could return in greater numbers. "Are any vessels jumping?" Carlyle asked, this would be important.

The Sensor Officer paused, starring at his terminal, before shaking his head at Rausgeber. "No sir." He reported, "The defence fleet's interdictors are still online. Shall I-?"

"Commence forward attack." Carlyle commanded, his voice harsh and stern, "We will show these lizards what happens to those who cannot finish what they've started." He paused, "Prepare a forward push. I want nothing to escape us alive."

Elsewhere on the command vessel. . .
A number of technicians and officers surround a tactical map displayed in real time. Data-points in orange flared as weapon strikes are successful and damage was further analyzed. It was neither their mission to charge troops with orders or provide tactical advice to the command unit; theirs was a much more straightforward task of collecting data and forwarding encrypted messages across space. Technically it was terrible, boring work -only interrupted by emergency evacuation warnings or cold, sudden death as a bulkhead blew out into space.

"Pinging all operating in nearby star systems. Sending safe hyperspace vectors. Done." Calmly spoken by one junior operator. This calculating, cold efficiency spreads across those within this room, as each person took comfort in their habits while at work.
"A forward attack was ordered!"
"We're not waiting for support?"

A seemingly out-of-place Major, generally eschewed by her affiliation with the Security Bureau for good reason, raised her hands, clad in white gloves instead of the usual black leather, and sued her compatriots for peace.

"Easy on. Let's see how things develop first. Continue pinging allies."

"Yes, ma'am."
"Aye."
"Affirmative."
This particular duty station was in high on her list as most dreadful op, and this was after the debacle on Theed.

The fleet zipped straight out of hyperspace into a near-inferno. Morro had never seen anything as terrifying and glorious as the battle which raged above Rakata Beta, not on any of her patrols for the CEDF, nor in the smaller skirmishes in which she’d participated. The young naval officer was also no stranger to the concept of the Ssi-ruuk or their Imperium as throughout history they attempted invasion of the Chiss Ascendancy time and time again. While aggression towards modern Csilla had not been attempted in centuries, the Ssi-ruuk were often the depicted as bloodthirsty reptilian creatures in holo horror movies, and quite often as a girl, the Chiss had one or two visit her in her nightmares.

But truthfully, Morro had not encountered the Ssi-ruu in the flesh, even during her tenure in the Csillian Expeditionary Fleet, and the thought of being entrenched by them, using her life force to fuel their technology was a big “no thank you.”

Supporting Captain Banning on the FIV Valorous, a Bolt II Corvette, Commander Morro sat in the pit behind her superior officer. She was the only blue face in a sea of pale skin as well as the only woman on all-male crew of the Valorous.

She would hear their command from the Admiral coming through the comms system, and while it had been broadcast from a junior officer, Morro could hear Rausgeber’s stern voice behind the emotionless orders.

“Commander Morro, will you please retrieve the readouts from the day room and bring them here?”

“Yes, Captain.” Striding to fetch the various intelligence reports, including communication from [member="The Major"]’s team and data on other allies and threats in the region, Morro quickly scrummed with a tactical team to identify the most pertinent information and only that was brought back to Captain Banning. The rhythmic cadence of the turbolasers continually firing upon enemy vessels was a soothing backdrop to the efficient planning on the bridge.

Fiolette's FIV Warspite had been anchored at Anoat for the time being as a new Galidraan II station was under construction. Forcing the Admiral to choose between alleviating one of the fleets of its Warspite II's or chosen a different ship altogether. Unfortunately her own flagship the FIV Rae Sloane remained in the blue print phase, in fact, those very blue prints remained at her shipwright facility on Rakata Beta. Fleet Admiral [member="Carlyle Rausgeber"] had taken charge of the direction of their defenses here in the home sector. While she came about with reinforcements, leading from the bridge of the FIV Hellstrom her hands behind her back as the Hellstrom reverted from hyperspace. The new Reign Bombers would launch with the TIE/R Raptors and a few squadrons of standard TIEs. With the Hellstrom several dozen escorts, namely the small and fierce Bolt IIs, Fortan IIs and the Muhktiars for screens. The Locust-class and Empire-classes rounded out the support with additional carrier support on the way.

"Captain Wilhuff," she began, "hold bombers with the TIEs, send our Bolt IIs out on a screen, and alert the Fleet Admiral, we're here for support."

UH0aMN0.png

Captain Wilhuff turned to his first officer, Commander Aermoira Cyone and nodded to her in acknowledgment.

Aermoira headed off to the communications console where Lieutenant Choi sat and watched as he placed in the information. "Notice dispatched to Fleet Admiral Rausgeber, information from the FIV Sondheimer, interdiction group heading further to cut the Ssi-Ruuvi off."

Wilhuff looked over at Grand Admiral Yvarro, who then issued her order. "Belay, defense fleet is in position have the Sondheimer's group on standby."

The youthful looking woman stood at the front of her bridge looking out of the viewport. The Hellstrom hummed and the Admiral let on a cheshire cat like grin, "Captain prepare the railguns, I want them ready to fire on my orders."

"Of course Admiral," Wilhuff without looking gave his order, "Lieutenant Quentin prepare the railguns."

"Preparing the railguns."

The Hellstrom was a monstrous carrier, twenty-two hundred meters long and able to disperse up to fourteen squadrons. She was one of the newest additions to the navy and even now as her sister ships rolled off the line the Grand Admiral wondered if it would be enough. No, she knew better, it would never be enough for she had learned that there was always something to learn. From every failure, from every lost ship there was knowledge to be gained. Even now, she would watch Fleet Admiral Rausgeber and learn from him. Admittedly she had spent far too long either behind a desk or in various meetings with the Supreme Commander, and various moffs answering for Kuragin's failure and ultimate destruction.

Objective: Defend against Ssi-Ruu assault

Before the arrival of First Order reinforcements

---

They were drilled to believe an attack could come at any time but it never seemed plausible until it happened. The Ssi-Ruu Imperium had been quiet for months. It seemed the fight had been kicked out of them. Petty Officer Tomiet believed the next attack on the First Order would likely come from the Galactic Alliance, their attempt at a truce failing to placate the aggressive Jedi but no. It came here, on the other side of their territory, in a backwater world they thought was safe during a mission undertaken for civilian purposes.

Leskie had been in the Fitness Centre, towards the end of her bi-daily work out when the alarms blared throughout the ship. At first, she and the others believed it had been a drill but the startling realty dawned on them not long after. Leskie arrived at her position on the bridge without time to change into uniform, still sweating in a tracksuit. War was upon them and it was Leskie's first taste of the action.

The Ssi-Ruu fleet appeared on her scanners soon enough, daunting in size compared with their small fleet. All around, officers babbled to each other, wondering where the offence had come from, where the warnings were and when reinforcements would arrive. The Petty Officer wiped some of the remaining sweat off of her brow, she didn't wish to speak to the others right now, she didn't want to hear them babble so she zoned out and focused soley on her job. The screen in front of her seat flickered to life as she picked a target to monitor, one of the Ssi-Ruu frigates, and set to work jamming their signals. They could fight back but they couldn't win, not without help. Leskie and the rest of the crew had to hope help would come and come soon.

Carlyle watched as the Ssi-Ruuk attempted to slink away from the battle. "Give me some calculations TACCOM." Carlyle barked, referring to Tactical Command, although not present aboard the bridge, in a tactical suit away from the command deck. "How are we going to attack this." There was a distinctive pause as the Signals Officer relayed the request, and waited for a return.

"The fleet has broken off into three separate parts Admiral Rausgeber, most of the destroyers have maintained a defensive stance." The Signals Officer reported. "However, some of their more damaged vessels, along with troop transports are leaving, in two separate picket lines. Our larger vessels won't be able to breakthrough to engage them, the enemy fleet is too thick." Carlyle mulled over this information, he would need decidedly quick thinking for this to work.

He came to a conclusion, if the Ssi-Ruuk would divide their fleet, the First Order would follow suit. "Alright," Carlyle began, "Captain Banning will pursue the troop transports, order him to disable the vessels as best he can." Rausgeber continued, "Order any and all vessels still operable from the defence fleet to press ahead. Have them drive off the remnants of the fleet, along with Banning, and then split off." Carlyle then smirked. Although Yvarro was there, this would be his achievement. Not hers. "Grand Admiral Yvarro and myself will see an end to this destroyer fleet." He commanded, "Order her to the rear," He cackled, "Don't want to have another Kurigan."

The Admiral had received the Fleet Admiral's message. Her only thought was that [member="Carlyle Rausgeber"]'s end would be of his own machinations, his grand standing and jockey for invisible power deluded his visions. What the man failed to realize was that they were all expendable, replaceable upon either the Supreme Commander or the Supreme Leader's will. Perhaps even the Moff Council could have a say in who led their armed forces. For now, Fiolette put away her thoughts and moved diligently to her forward operations center. The Hellstrom's railguns were still charging, "wait until they're at a hundred percent and then fire on the lead carrier."

"Have the Locust ships work with the Mukhtiars, keep the buggars off until they're in range of the lc line." The idea was to engage the Ssi Ruuvi's light cruisers, "Empires and Fortans move to engage heavy line a, I want bombers making their runs on my mark, Captain." There was a long pause as she turned to look at the weapons read out along the tactical console wall. Quietly she stood, hands still clasped behind her back. "Prepare the cannons, engage the carrier once in range and engage our particle lasers in three, two, one."

The FIV Hellstrom lit up with all ten particle lasers, followed shortly by ten hypervelocity cannons all twenty guns set to the carrier, with the Hellstrom's biggest guns still charging. The upfront damage wouldn't be nearly as devastating as the damage over time that the guns were capable of doing. The bombers would now be prepared to take off, ready to deploy on the Admiral's orders. She recalled the battle of Castameer and knew that it had been her at the front when no one else saw fit to rise to the occasion when she had issued out the orders to advance straight into the abyss. She reminded herself, for every action there was a reaction and for every failure, a lesson learned. "Success can only get you so far, my dear Rausgeber."

As Morro sat directly behind Captain Banning, she checked the radar and noticed another fleet approaching, this one lead by the Admiral Yvarro. And while she hoped this did not mean Admiral Rausgeber was not in full control of the attack, it did appear that the First Order Navy was creeping towards the losing side of the battle.

“Commander Morro, our orders are to directly engage the damaged ships. I want you to communicate with the Cavalier and the Pursuit. You’ll be my eyes and ears on the starboard side.”

“Yes, Sir.”

She moved to the far corner of the Command Pit and slipped on a headset so she’d be able to feed information to and from all Captains

Banning snickered momentarily and muttered, “The Hellstrom. More like the Hellcat. Amirite?” A sprinkle of laughter erupted in the pit until Morro gave her captain a quizzical look.

“Let’s just say Admiral Rausgeber and Admiral Yvarro can get… competitive.”

She faced forward again, pressing a couple of buttons on the console. At the mention of Rausgeber for some reason, Morro’s blue skin darkened, her neck and chest growing warmer as though she were embarrassed but she could not figure out why. To distract herself, she said, “Enemy shields are down. Fire when ready.”

Continuing off that thought, there was a competitive streak which was an interesting form of wild scuttlebutt that the higher ranked fleet officers fondly enjoyed to debate over. Of course, out of earshot of both Yvarro and Rausgeber. First Order Security Bureau operatives did not dabble into such trite discussions. . . on paper.

One quickly became accustomed to the rumble a ship would make as batteries pounded away towards a foe. Even a massive flagship such as FIV Malice was subject to this incessant, repetitive rattle. It kept someone humble when they weren't the helmsman.

Preferring to work at a standing station for reasons unknown, the Major continued to monitor her team as they sent updated statistics and encrypted messages in real time for the Malice. It was of particular importance from a logistical standpoint to accurately report battle damage of friendly ships and provide this information to other units in the sector. Again, boring work, but one could rest assured that each and every ship in operation right now had a similar team typing away furiously with a lifesaving cafe nearby.

"We're loosing power on the shields."

"Divert power from the batteries."

"Sir? We need those to fight back."

"We need to survive, ensign, first and foremost."

Leskie remained silent as the rest of the crew panicked around her. The truth was that she was terrified. A quick glance at the ship's window earned a sharp intake of breath from the Petty Officer. Cannon fire lit up the darkness of space, blasts of vibrant blues, greens and reds shot forth from Ssi-Ruu and Imperial vessels alike. The size of the Ssi-Ruu fleet was horrifying. Their ships grew closer, passing through the wreckage of a First Order vessel as they continued to bombard the Knowledge.

Her attention returned to the computer screen, it was so much easier to zone out of the danger if it were dots on a radar. More ships were appearing now. More enemies. Leskie gulped audibly, not wanting to be the bearer of bad news.

But examining them closer, the vessels were not reading as Ssi-Ruu. They were Imperial vessels. "Sir! Reinforcements! Far side! Beyond the enemy fleet!" Leskie fired off a series of quick statements, too hurried to give a clear sentence.

The flustered Captain nodded, unable to take his eyes off the battle raging beyond. "Contact their flagship, request orders..." he responded rather meekly.

"First Order ships," Leskie opened communication with the incoming fleet. "This is FIV Knowledge, we're taking heavy fire. Requesting a recommended course of action?"
