The Frontier of Freedom (Coalition Dominion of Ossus)

1/20
The Republic had fallen. Oh, a rump state wedged between Mandalorians and Sith still flew the flag, but they were broken, trapped. They were a Galactic Republic reduced to a remnant, a shell. Soon enough they would dissolve, and their proud history would end.

One planet lost after the defeat at Contruum was the Jedi base on Ossus. This world, though the Padawans and important artefacts had been evacuated, still held an important strategic location. It was on the western edge of Coalition space and formed a bulwark against further Sith encroachments.

Therefore Valiens Nantaris and other Coalition leaders had set out to occupy, protect and fortify the planet against future incursions.

Objectives:
  • Construct a powerful military installation with Nantaris to protect the planet against future attack.
  • Investigate/Reoccupy the Jedi Temple
  • Make your own objective

A representative of the Galactic Alliance Defense Force had been dispatched by way of a corvette and an honor guard of six X-Wings. The south systems had seemingly opened up and the way was clear, save for pirates. But the Mon Calamari Captain and envoy, Ix Ytra. There were Jedi with him, sure, but it was a point that the worlds of the Galactic Alliance and Silver Coalition needed to work more hand in hand for the coming future. The days ahead, with the Republic space being fractured, were looking darker and more dire.

The corvette had pulled from hyperspace around Ossus.

“This is Captain Ix Ytra of the Galactic Alliance Defense Fleet. Supreme Commander Nemo Ven sends his regards.” The ship pulled into a holding orbit around the world. “We are dropping off a small team of Alliance Jedi to assist with the work being done on Ossus. May we have clearance to land?”

The Alliance didn’t need Ossus, but a connection to the SSC? That could be useful.

Ossus had been home, once, but oh... it had been years. Events, personal and galactic, had pulled him away from the Republic soon after the Netherworld Crisis, and he hadn't felt pulled back to it. There were places that he would be of more use, the Alliance was a perfect fit for him, and they used him well. Returning to a world whose jungles he had once known like the back of his hand, to corridors, rooms, and secret locations that held some of his most cherished memories was an opportunity he couldn't pass up when the Jedi of the Alliance opted to send representatives. Who better than someone who might know the place?

"Ever been to Ossus, Adrienna?" he asked, looking out a viewport at the curve of the world, "It was my home, once."

He checked over his gear, one temporary lightsaber and the Vanguard armour that members of the Alliance unit, 'The Hounds', were outfitted with. It was more for acclimatization than anything, as the assessment of Ossus brought a 'low threat' level. The armour wasn't on his person, but rather packed into the duffel he carried it in - his times in going from zero to fully wrapped were dropping faster than a heavy object falling from a significant height.

It had been some time since Coci had set foot on this planet. The last, was to come to the Library to find out any information on a Jedi important to their family, Jedi Knight Sarah Valerious, Thurion's birth mother. Before that, Coci was stationed here for some time to help secure Ossus when she had been with the Republic. Now, she returns to do it again, this time to help the Jedi Order, once more. Thurion and Coci had been contacted by the leaders of the Jedi Order, they hoping the Jedi of the Silver Sanctum would move into Ossus to set guardianship over the planet until such time as the Jedi Order can return with full authority, Thurion and Coci did not hesitate to give aid to old friends that request it.

Coci walks up the step that lead to the main entrance of the Temple, hoping to meet any representative from the Jedi Order that might still on Ossus. Whatever assistance they require will be given. She walks side by side with her husband, dressed in her traditional Jedi robes and saber, there is no need for further weapons or protection, Ossus is sacred to any Jedi and so will protect it as one.

His parents had thought this a great opportunity for Théo to come and see one of the great temple known to the Jedi. Not only that the planet was beautiful with it's surrounding jungles and complex wildlife. Which was all very well and good, but the force! Oh how strong it is here, and Théo could not only sense it but allowed his body to take in all in, filling him with living force and strengthening his body.

Oh and he might get to meet this [member="Corvus Raaf"] chap or was it lass. One could only hope to meet the person that would own such as blade as the Dawnbringer.

Théo walked next to his parents, taking one step at a time while looking up at the Temple doors which he looked on with wonder. He was dressed in a mixture of Jedi Robes and Valkyri clothing, it was fast becoming his uniform, feeling like each of his heritage to be represented by it and a new minted lightsaber hung on his belt which felt a little heavy but he did not care, he would get used to it soon enough.

His presence here was a given: wherever there were Jedi, wherever there were Jedi interests, it was a fair assumption that the old master would show up; with his ties to the galactic entities that made up the Coalition, and the help rendered to the Galactic Republic in bygone times, he was a known body, and an ideal representative for the network of Jedi academies, enclaves, et al. that reached across space lanes, territories, and governments. The network was the vehicle that tied the disparate groups and orders of Jedi together, coming further in accomplishing what a single order could not. No, it was not a united order, but it was close enough. Every Jedi stood to benefit, and in turn, so did the galaxy.

"Master M'ti sends her regards," he said, as he caught up with the pair, "it is good to see you both; and young Padawan Heavenshield! Your training goes well, I hope?"

He eyed the fresh lightsaber that dangled from the belt the boy wore cinched about him, with approval. They grow so very fast, as his countless memories of young students over the near-millenium of his life could attest. For his part, two hilts hung from his own person, though rarely were the two used together.

She was surprised to look at it again, breathing in the air while her hands clasped behind her back. She had been looking towards getting into the labs near the submerged sections that connected to the temple while she wore the robes and the suit. She knew [member="Corvus Raaf"] hadn't discovered it, most didn't know about that labs save Iella and Je'gan way back when she had been working on some of the things. For now though with the scanners and team of researchers she was sending the teams on the map. "Establish a map room in the uppermost cave so we can start mapping the caves and prepare an underwater recovery unit." She had her team going as they moved to set up quickly and get jedi down to secure the tunnels below. SHe remembered the reports of when the sith took the krayt holocron and used the tunnels to infiltrate the temple.

Looming larger than life out of the shadows of the Temple step the Master who runs the Jedi Academy. Théo had seen holos of him through the Voss Temple, giving instructions to students on behaviour and guidance for direction in training. Although Théo had not visited the other Academies, he knew there was others out there attending classes and fast becoming powerful Jedi. Padawans of all ages and species gathered around the galaxy under this man's wing.

Théo studied his face, he kind of reminded him of Nantaris in a way, old and wise but with less hair on his face and more on his head, and he did not have a runny nose although the size of it could house a small squadron of starfighters, Théo would keep these thoughts to himself.

Bowing at the waist, Théo greeted Master Nytrau. "My training is going well thank you Master Nytroo", unsure as to how to pronounce his name, but it had not escaped Théo's keen eye that this master is master of not one but two sabers. Does this make him a master bladesmen? To the best of his knowledge Father only had one, same with mother, but little did Théo know his mother had two, the other kept in secret for when she operates as a Jedi Shadow.

"Master Nytroo? Do you train lots with those sabers?".

Word spread quickly. Sadly, the Republic had, as the Twi'lek predicted the day she decided to leave the Order, failed to protect its' assets. In the blink of an eye, half of the Republic seemed to collapse inwards overnight. The loss of Contruum forced the evacuation of more than 50% of Republic space. Ossus - The last homestead of the Jedi, had been lost. She had heard through various transmissions back and forth that the Silver Sanctum Coalition was planning to secure the planet, and the temple, to prevent the Sith from destroying, or pillaging the grounds.

Out from hyperspace, Sera's A-Type slowly orbited the planet. It had been quite some time since she had been here, but this wasn't how she had imagined returning to her former home. Her eyes lowered in guilt and sadness, but only for a moment, for in the next instance she throttled up, her landing coordinates the same as it had always been when returning. She opened a broadcast to anyone on the ground that may still be there. It would identify her ship ID and herself as crew.

Securing the facility would be the number one priority.

"What in the blazes is going on here." Aston muttered under his breath as he seemed to be having some technical difficulties with his x-wing. "Does anyone copy?" Aston repeated hearing nothing but complete distortion. "I'm not sure my friend." Aston said glancing over to his astro droid. "I'm going to try one of the emergency frequencies." Aston said as his x-wing remained still in space functioning on low power right now. "Emergency code 310, does anyone copy?" Aston repeated again but relaxed a bit in his seat. His hand raising to his chin, rubbing it lightly as he thought of his next move. He glanced over to his astro droid and just shook his head. "My friend this is not the time to panic!" He said with a small chuckle, while being stranded here in space wasn't his idea of going out. Lights flickered on the console and a small sight of static could be seen.

"I'm going to have to get this sucker planet side. Hopefully we make it there before...." While he was here to aid the efforts of his fellow Jedi, his mind steered away from the issues that had plagued the Republic by the One Sith. Hope was essential, Aston firmly believed in that. With faith and such they would bounce back, but for right now, his help was spread across the galaxy. If this blasted x-wing would get to functioning properly. Aston reached for the controls and the fighter moved at a slow paced towards the atmosphere, all the while sending his coordinates through the emergency frequency. While he heard distortion he hoped whomever was on the other end would hear it.

Ossus…bad memories.

Valiens Nantaris had some pretty grim memories of his Padawanship on Ossus. Briefly he’d been sent here for ‘advanced tuition’ overy twenty years ago, and found it not to his liking. Still, he understood the need to fortify the planet, and even saw the need to meet the other Jedi there.

With hopefully his two Twi’lek apprentices in tow he made his way from the shuttle over to the gathering of Jedi. He saw Coci was there with her son…hopefully Theodred had kept his mouth shut about their ‘excursion’ on Voss. If he hadn’t….

“Good day, all. Welcome to the famous Ossus Jedi Temple. I’d offer a tour, but I expect I don’t need to. I've put out a coded transmission to all Jedi to join us here if they are in the system.”

This meant the wonderful [member="Seraphina Shel'tah"] whom Nantaris would very much like to meet!

As the Twi'lek began the descent towards the planet below, a bit of white noise followed the crackling sound of a voice through an emergency frequency. It was difficult to make out, and only a portion of the message came through clearly. "Emer--y co 310, does ---one co--"

Sera looked down at the communications array, waiting to see if anything further came through in the following moments. Hearing nothing, the woman patched into the frequency and made an attempt to reach the caller in distress. "Copy, what is your location and status?" She would have identified herself, but due to the volume of noise coming through the channel she tried to keep the message as brief as possible to avoid possible interruption in transmission. Looking out the viewport of her starfighter she glanced around from side to side to try and visually locate another ship, but to the best of her ability was unable to see anything that resembled a starship.

Making another pass she repeated her reply before beginning her descent towards the surface, where [member="Valiens Nantaris"] would likely find her. Whether or not that was good or bad had yet to be seen.

Ali tossed the scattershot rifle onto the stone floor at her feet. It clattered loudly, the sound echoing in the empty corridor of the Temple lobby. Ali lifted her head and breathed deeply. Smoke filled her lungs as the spice coursed through her veins, leaving the cigarette in her lips. She stood in shadow, all the non-essential power sources were shut off, which included the primary lighting. Surely the Silver Sanctum would have things up and running within days.
She tapped her feet impatiently, though she wasn't exactly waiting for anything either. "Ma'am, the rest of the Temple has been flushed, and we've got a copy of the archive records." Ali looked up and wiped a thumb across her lips; she'd been off spice too long and now even a light dose was eating at her nerves. "Yeah, that's great. Get it out of here, put it on the shuttle." The Republic Commando who'd addressed her nodded, pushing the repulsorcart along as his partner guided it from the front. The large memory core they'd extracted from the Archive databanks sat in a cooling chamber. The Commandos keyed open the Temple's main doors, which began creeping open slowly. The heavenly beam of harsh sunlight that cut through the darkness blinded Ali for a moment, the spice dilated her eyes and weakened her vision for a time.
"Fecking hell..." she muttered, pulling on her cigarette again and letting the smoke flood her lungs before being flushed through her nostrils. The tendrils encased her armored body and seemed to cling to the blood on her hands. She hadn't washed since Contruum, nearly a week ago when their forces had been pushed out of the system. Since then, Ali's life had been nothing but chaos, struggling to maintain order in the southern half of the Republic that had been cut off from the Capital.

Outside, she heard voices, and for a moment the Galactic Republic's Supreme Commander struggled to decide if they were real or coming from within her own mind. The two Commandos walked passed the gathering Silver Jedi, leading the Archive memory core down the steps and toward the shuttle that was resting on the grass outside. Ali stood up and dragged on her cigarette once more, leaving the scattergun resting on the floor where it lay. She grabbed her Verpine AR and clipped it to her shoulder, then made her way outside to greet the new protectors of Ossus and the Jedi Temple there.
Ali was garbed in the same armor she'd arrived on Contruum with. Her plates were stained with blood and dried mud, and the cuts on her face were slow to heal in her depressed, drug-induced state. Her buy'ce was clipped to her belt, a great crack ran down the T-shaped visor. The result of taking a punch to the face from one of Draco Vereen's heavily armored Mandalorian soldiers. She looked like hell, but she did her job, and no one thought it their own place to complain. Ali didn't mind. She didn't care.

So when she walked out onto the steps of the Jedi Temple, revealing her presence to the Silver Sanctum Jedi, Ali very much represented the state in which the Galactic Republic felt.

Ali watched the Commandos continue on with the memory core. All around the area, Larty Gunships and MAT-TE walkers carried on the burden of security. Ali's own Commandos were assisting with uploading of supplies and equipment. Republic forces had arrived some days ago to secure and evacuate the Jedi Temple, though the Ossan natives had opted to stay. Ali was sure certain elements of the Republic's own Order would remain behind to maintain a presence. Ali looked away from the various Republic forces and turned her attention to the lead Master, a certain [member=Valiens Nantaris].
"It sure is famous..." Ali interjected bitterly as she caught Nantaris' words on the fly. "What a fecking failure..." Ali muttered, dragging from her cigarette again and looking over at the gaggle of Force Users. She let the smoke trail from her nostrils as she continued the thought. "If you want a tour, I could do it...we're not up to much at the moment." Ali grimaced; she tried to smile, but couldn't remember how. "Good to see you here, I'm sick of looking at Force Users, but at least you're not here to kill civilians." Ali let the words hang in the air before she put a hand on her sidearm and gave the Silvers a once over. "You're not, are you?" She asked, only half-joking. It seemed every other Force User took a hiatus from being a good person to be a psychotic killer (for which they were promptly forgiven by all). Ali wondered why the Republic hadn't simply put them all in chains and left them to fight each other on some backwater world.

Suddenly…a woman dressed like a Mandalorian! Partly anyway. She didn’t introduce herself, but had plenty to say.
Nantaris took his hand from his lightsabre, as her appearance from inside the temple had been somewhat surprising.

“No ma’am, I’m one of the non-genocidal ones, as hard as that might be to believe,” he said solemnly. “And you? Republic? Are you joining up with us?”

As he spoke dropships started to appear, landing and disgorging his Freespace Rangers. Striding over to meet him was his friend the Jedi Knight Raloph Scindia.

“Shield generator is on the way, as is the guns,” Scindia said.
“Good. I don’t suspect there’s hostiles, but do a reconnaissance of the area for suitable defence sites.”
“Got it.”

Nantaris turned back to the grim commando. “Is there anything inside the temple which needs attention? We’re going to fortify the area to protect it.”

A ship containing the wonderful pink Twi’lek would be arriving soon. That would be entertaining.

There was no point in not coming to the Silver Sanctum space. Judah visited quite regularly, Salacia held many manufacturing centers and offices throughout the territory. Working more and more with the Galactic Alliance, there was certainly the need for a connection between the powerhouse of the Jedi and the rising political force. Both had a similar vein of thought in the verse. Judah was silently predicting that the Galactic Republic would fall soon. There would be a power vacuum and a struggle. With those dark days approaching, it was best for both powers to have one another to rely on.

Judah walked into the cockpit where Commander Ytra was standing. It seemed they were in a holding pattern above the planet. Problems? He couldn't see why the SSC would object to the presence of the vessel....unless they were worried about the GA bringing trouble into their backyard? Hard to tell, he didn't speak politics with the members of the SSC often. [member="Siobhan Kerrigan"] would be his only regular contact on the matters of political powerhouses and territory lines in the area.

"Are we having problems landing Commander Ytra? I only know most folks in this area casually but I do believe I could contact Mrs.Heavenshield if needed. If I remember right, she is one of the highest Masters for their order."

Ali frowned; the man seemed to have no idea at all who she might be. It wasn't a disappointing thought, simply a realization that she really had been out of it lately and hadn't bothered to introduce herself. She shook her head, forcing sobriety of herself for the moment, and took a final pull from her cigarette before flicking it away to land in a bursting cloud of coals. "I'm Ali Hadrix, Supreme Commander of the Galactic Republic Military and Director of the Intelligence Ministry." Her tone was flat, as if she were telling the time. "We're here to finish securing the last of our resources and assets before returning to centralized Republic space." She gestured with a nod the greater landscape around them. "The people of these worlds might remain citizens...but our military can't stay. There's an offensive planned..." Her words trailed off for a moment and she ran a hand through her dry, tangled hair. "I'm here to help you guys get settled in. Just a formality, really, you lot know what you're doing." She wanted to smile, to thank them for being the ones to show up instead of another Vong abomination lugging about the Sith's disgusting horde. But she didn't have the energy for gratitude anymore than she did for sorrow.
"The Temple shouldn't need anything, we just shut down some of the power centers. Just...fire 'em back up, I guess." She waved a hand vaguely to the Commandos who'd passed by with the memory core. "We copied the Archive databanks onto one of the cores and lifted it; it'll be secured at the Capital. When we get the chance we'll have an empty one sent your way to replace in the 'banks." Ali sighed and considered anything she might be missing. "Oh, the hangar...built into the cliffs, I'd have engineers check it over. I've got reports filed of stress fractures in some of the structural areas; probably nothing but it doesn't hurt to double check."
"Ma'am," a voice interrupted Ali's continuing train of thought, though she felt just about burnt out already. "Yeah, what is it?" She asked, turning to face the Commando stepping out onto the foyer. "Wanted to remind you, we've got a stockpile of fortification materials in the compounds surrounding the Temple. They can use those for improvements." The Commando remained in place just long enough for Ali to acknowledge his reminder, then he turned and left. Ali looked back to Valiens. "And then there's that," she quipped, glancing at the others in the group. "But...don't get too crazy with it, the Temple has a nice vintage vibe we'd like to see preserved...no shag carpets or tin rooftops..."

It felt like only yesterday that she’d managed to evacuate all the Younglings and Padawans. Perhaps it was? But she had to return.

Not for herself. In truth, setting foot on the planet was painful in the extreme. She was not here to reclaim the Academy as she’d once done before. Rather she was here to help a Government she did not serve lay claim to it. Soon another would be living in her spartan quarters. The Council Chambers would be used by others.

The training rooms she’d frequented for a dozen plus years would be full of Jedi yes, but no longer looking to her as Head Master. Once she’d helped her friends the Silver Jedi ensure the Academy did not fall into the wrong hands, she would never return. She just knew it.

So she composed herself. Tears were never becoming a Jedi. Finally she had no choice but to shut her emotions down. The Empath became the cold-fish once more. Ironic really, as that’s what she was when she first landed here all those years ago.

And now the logic wondered what the tears were for? Bricks and stones? Memories? She gathered Braith’s staff and left the sanctuary of her ship. Raven was left in its usual docking-bay. No doubt for the last time.

And she ventured forth on a walk she’d done thousands of times previously, heading for the trapezoid arch — to stop and meditate as was the custom.

Solan yawned as his feet touched the ground outside of the ossus temple. Last time he had been here was in the aftermath of the whole, sith battle for it. Back then he remembered the forest around the temple being a bit burned down. Looks like it recovered quite well if he did remark for himself, what was he doing here though... OH right. Helping the Silver Sanctum move in and see if there were any Jedi still around. Granted he wasnt sure where any of the other members of the sanctum were minus the few he knew still in orbit. And as for the grounds of the temple, looks like they left in quite a rush if he had to say so.
After a short walk though it appeared that someone familiar was here. [member="Ali Hadrix"]. As well as it seemed [member="Théodred Heavenshield"] and [member="Ilias Nytrau"]. Well lets start with the one he did recognize. "Hello there miss hadrix, i didn't know you would be here. If i did i could have stopped, gotten you some flowers to make up the place. You know, make it look a bit more beautiful and lively." His head then turned to nod to both Theodred and Nytrau, the latter of which he recognized now that he got a good look which caused his head to bow for a bit longer to him before returning his sight to Ali. "Now, how has the military in the republic been, and how come you are sitting here and greeting visitors? I would have thought a jedi would do so like one of the Raafs or... whats his name... ah, nevermind. The curiosity remains though."

Galactic events were moving quickly, to say the very least. The Galactic Alliance had rapidly sprung from minor leagues to major and was expanding even further. In one stunningly fell swoop, the One Sith had cut across the Republic and cut their effective territory in half. Supply lines suddenly stopped running, and recall orders had been sent. Rumor had it that the Jedi Order had approached the Sanctum with a request to safeguard the system, but he'd not attempted to substantiate it.

Ossus was one of the many planets that had been effectively lost by the fight at Contruum. It had a rich history with the Jedi, dating back to the original Sith and possibly before. At least, that was about as much as he'd caught from the chatterbox of a Jedi that had accompanied him on his survey of potential sites for the planetary shield generators. The Sephi had tuned the other out as soon as he'd realized the lack of helpfulness with the task. Planetary Defense shields were one of the most basic lines of defense possible, ranging from a solid encasement of energy to widely-customized designs that could open pinpoint holes and cover them again in seconds. Planet-based guns and fleets in orbit were also critical, presumably there were other teams working those angles.

Even from this vantage point half a kilometer away, Audren could tell that it wouldn't do well. Not only was the area thickly-wooded, there were quite a lot of beings present, some of them even sentient. They'd have to raze the area and relocate the sentients at the very least. As a result, he changed the designator on the map to orange to indicate the location was possible but less than optimal. The map was hosted by other Sanctum equipment here on Ossus, every mark he made was relayed to planners elsewhere. With his report sent, it was time to head to the next location.

Siobhan Kerrigan was not on Ossus or even in the system. As a matter of fact, when one of her aides had mentioned the Coalition of the Willing's latest expansionary venture to her, she had been rather vocal in her belief that it was a 'pointless distraction' since there was 'nothing left on Ossus except a bunch of old buildings' and it had 'no strategic or economic value'. These thoughts are all IC. The poor minion had been subjected to a long rant about grand strategy until Harmony had been able to, ahem, distract the Firemane Vice President.

However, a Firemane-designed Coalition frigate of the Sentinel-class was in orbit. The Firemane NPC commander aboard the ship received the transmission from the Galactic Alliance corvette that had just popped by to provide support. Its IFF checked out, so a reply was sent. After all, help was always nice and it would be impoite to keep them waiting.

"Captain Ytra, this is Captain Einhorn. Welcome to Free Space. You have clearance to land. Coalition members are carrying out reconstruction efforts at the Temple and setting up defences." There, NPCs by Sio! Firemane transport ships would be dropping off heavy equipment and defensive cannons for [member="Valiens Nantaris"] and his posse to install since apparently the Coalition wanted to fortify the planet. Presumably the Company would get fake money for that. Siobhan had an expensive life style, so she loved fake money.
