Description:

With war raging around the galaxy, Tenloss' contributions have been made in weapons, armor, ships, and equipment. However, despite this contribution and the profits made, Tenloss has yet to make any type of handheld, thrown explosive. With this gap found in their lists, Popo ordered Tenloss R&D to create a weapon to fill the needed role.

The Tenloss MultiPurpose Spike Explosive was the direct result of months of research and labor. The weapon was designed around two principles: longer reach and the ability to adhere to targets. The longer reach was attained through sheer simplicity of design. The MP-SE takes on a 'stick' shape where the explosive is located in the head of the grenade while a handle is attached to the bottom of the explosive. This gives the user more leverage when throwing the grenade at targets and enables the user to display more control over the explosive, meaning a higher degree of accuracy.

The ability to adhere to targets was somewhat more complex. Electromagnets and even adhesives were debated, but eventually discarded. Other companies produce weapons with such features and, in the event of proper defensive measures, would often fail or see limited effectiveness. A different method was needed that was more or less capable of bypassing many passive defenses that prevented explosives from adhering to surfaces. The result was a small array of spikes sharpened to near monomolecular points.

The concept was simple. Super sharp spikes allowed the grenade to strike surfaces and immediately 'dig in' with the spikes. The spikes would then prevent the grenade from falling off the surface and allow the weapon to detonate. The method is effective on most known substances from wood to stone, even metals such as durasteel.

With the super-sharp spikes, the new problem arose of self injury in the field. Instead of redesigning the grenade, Tenloss R&D designed a carrier. Made of a titanium-Alusteel-Tritanium alloy, the carrier carries the MP-SE inside. The grenade's spikes were then spring-loaded, deploying once pulled from the sleeve. The sleeve itself keeps the user safe from injury and easily clips to belts or harnesses.

The grenade itself is a multipurpose weapon, used against vehicles, infantry, and structures alike. The MP-SE features a baradium explosive like most thermal detonators and its casing is a mixture of thermite and axidite. The weapon comes with an attached timer detonator, requiring the user to turn the knob at the top of the explosive charge to set the time delay before throwing. It also comes with a proximity detonator that is set by turning the knob at the handle's base to the proper distance in meters, then adhering the weapon to a surface. Simply arming and throwing the grenade is a simple matter done by turning the timer delay knob in the opposite direction until it clicks, setting a standard three second fuse. The MP-SE has an 8m blast radius and, like all thermal detonators, is highly destructive.

The main downsides to the weapon are simple. It's a little heavier and bulkier than the standard thermal detonator. The MP-SE also carries the risk of self injury once pulled from the sleeve carrier due to the extremely sharp spikes. Also, once thrown on a delayed timer, there is no disarming the explosive. Lastly, when deployed as a proximity explosive, there is no safe way to diffuse the grenade without EMP devices that can safely disarm the weapon.

Near enough that it can puncture durasteel and durasteel-like substances deeply enough to stick in place. I mean, if you're dumb suicidal enough to use it as a club, you could do some nasty damage to people, but then you'd still have to be dumb suicidal enough to attack someone with an improvised thermal detonator club.
